E3 is fast approaching. It starts tomorrow, actually, and I couldn't be more excited. This is going to be a good year for games. There is already a lot of pre-coverage going on around the internet. Check Gamespot and IGN for the best coverage and updates. There, you will find a good amount of videos and images of already-announced games that will be getting some coverage at the show this year.

What I would like to know is what is everyone looking forward to hearing about this year? For me, it would mostly have to be on Naughty Dog's new project. I'm so excited to see where they take the untouchably awesome Jak series, and with them being one of the top game developers around, I know they won't dissapoint. Same with Insomniac and the Ratchet and Clank games.

I'm also really hoping to hear info on Resident Evil 5 and maybe Silent Hill 5, as well.

Also, the new Killzone game (the PS3 one, mainly), Devil May Cry 4, the next GTA game, the next Suffering game (hopefully), God of War 2, and oh so many others. What would really blow me away is if THQ announced Red Faction 3, but that's extremely doubtful.

The PS3 and Revolution coverageis going to be the best. Some of the Rev games I've heard about so far sound incredible. A game I read about in my last issue of Game Informer was called Red Steel, and it is going to be a launch title from Ubisoft. It's a first-person shooter with too many awesome features to list here, but with the motion sensing remote, you could guess on what it's going to do.

So, yeah. E3 is going to rule this year, as did last year's. I have a feeling this is going to be even better. Discuss away!
RedX
Yeah, I can't wait to see the Rev's(Wii) and TP's reveiws/news. Nintendo is going to be the main focus these year!!! wink2.gif thumbsup.gif cool.gif happy.gif grin2.gif
Al Bundy
And of course the boothbabes!!! wub.gif
BurnSide
Bah! I was waiting until tomorrow to start the topic. laugh.gif
I haven't really heard of many things i'm especially excited for yet. Naturally we'll be getting a very big look at upcoming PS3 and Nintento Re.. umm, Wii... which i'm sure will be the two big contenders since the 360 has failed to impress.
For RE5 i'm fairly certain that all we'll really be getting is what we've already seen, slightly updated. The RE5 trailer was not supposed to be leaked when it was, it was for E3.

What we will see, that i'm extremely excited for, is some ingame of MGS4: Guns of the Patriots. Maybe even a playable demo at E3, but i'm not counting that in just yet.

At the end of last years e3, I heard they announced that the boothbabes wouldn't be returning again; I don't know if that stuck with that decision, though.

Hopefully they'll finally release new information on Alan Wake. yes.gif

I'm starting to get in my first pictures. Nothing special so far, but this one caught my eye. Wonder why.

Here you go Shake. No SH5 as of yet, but we have..

user posted image

This picture is from the floor at E3, so apparently the rumours of the SH remake are true.
Does that also mean, however, that the rumours it will be only on PSP will also be true?

If so, i'm afraid i will have no choice but to boycott this game, for the simple sheer stupidity behind making it a PSP exclusive.

However, if it's an entirely new SH game which follows, say, the origins of the town not the first game, then so be it, looking forward to hearing more.
Raptor
^Notice that it says 'Origins', not 'Original sin'. Maybe I'm just nitpicking but possibly they are making a prequel aswell as a remake?
BurnSide
Metal Gear Solid 4 footage is going to be nuts.

Also, the release date has been cryptically revealed, and deciphered.

Turn the image upsidedown and you have 3 7's. July 7th, 2007 will also be the 20th anniversary of the MGS saga.

Possibly, but i can't see them working on THREE Silent Hill games simultainously. Two is pushing it, especially since literally nothing is still known about SH5.
Shakezulah
I wouldn't mind if there was a SH PSP game as long as they were making another game for the consoles. I'm eagerly awaiting news for the possibility of SH5.

Here's a shocker: http://www.gamespot.com/e3/e3story.html?si...9311&pid=932843

A new Turok game. I definately didn't expect to see another one of those, especially since the collossal failure of Evolution. I liked Evolution, though, and the new one is sure to be tons better.

E3 Square-Enix conference is NOW!

Here's what we have, mainly, for Final Fantasy so far.

Apparently, the voice acting for FFXII is simply stunning, right on par with the english version of AC.

.....sparing no expense on the voice acting for this one--it's all appropriately haughty, in line with the tone of the story.

Phew.

Dragon Quest for Wii JUST announced: Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors.

It's also a Wii launch title, supposedly incorporating all those lovely Wii controller touch-sensitivity and movement features.

OH, Shake, GOD OF WAR 2 trailer was released a couple weeks ago, so i'm sure it'll be shown at E3 but for now you can see it on youtube here:

Pretty freating sweet.

Hello!!!

First footage of FINAL FANTASY VII: CRISIS CORE was just shown. Mainly cinematics. It's a PSP game starring ZACK from Soldier, and basically plays the entire storyline of Cloud's origins with Zack, Tifa, Sephiroth etc. No gameplay footage unfortunately.

I believe this might be the same anime footage that was tacked onto the american release of Advent Children and was mistaken for an Anime movie, but was infact cinematics from a game.

Just announced.... Final Fantasy XIII....PS3.

Just got this.

QUOTE
2:02 Final announcement! For PS3! E3 is so damn exciting sometimes. What is it?!

FINAL FANTASY XIII. FINAL FANTASY XIII. They pulled a serious bait-and-switch on us. Sword-and-gun-wielding heroine who looks like Yuna, flipping her way around a high-tech, futuristic world. No idea what it was until the end when that NAME popped up. Yoshinori Kitase directing! This is the guy behind all the best ones--VI, VIII, VIII, X. Be still my heart.

2:08 Sorry, I jumped the gun--Mr. Kitase was merely presenting. Motomu Toriyama will direct the game. And apparently FFXIII isn't the only game coming out of this universe--there's a, uh, mobile game too. Oh.

More details coming!

Hopefully we'll be able to see that footage soon.

Well we have seen alot of footage in recent months.. make that years.. Twilight Princess was being fully played at a Nintendo Conference i visited in Montreal about 9 months ago. The whole first 15 minutes of the game was cycling over.

I don't think we'll see much new for it, but maybe a release date at very least.

Thanks for the updates, Burns. I'm a little surprised to see FFXIII announced already, but that's still cool.

I think the GOW2 trailer is on Gamespot, so I'll check that out later on.

I'm glad things are going a little slow for the first day. They've saving all the extremely big and exciting stuff for later on. Also, I have to work today, so I don't have to miss a lot. tongue.gif
BurnSide
And SE's conference comes to a close.

QUOTE
2:20 The conference draws to a close with a comment from Hashimoto that this should demonstrate Square Enix's commitment to next-generation gaming, but that it's "only the beginning." A final movie showcases the name Final Fantasy XIII, as if each new installment in this mega-enormous series is now a franchise unto itself.

Finally, Mr. Wada has retaken the stage. "How did that grab you?" Laughter and applause. Some more commentary on SE's commitment to supporting the next gen. Speaks more about the "synergy between products" being a proven formula with Compilation of FFVII. Looks like they're taking the same tack with FFXIII.

Some more info on FFXIII (can't type fast enough!): The game was begun by the FFX team for PS2, but the team was then derailed to make last year's FFVIII PS3 tech demo. They were so happy with the hardware, they decided to then shift development to the new platform. Apparently the game will run on the "White Engine" and will feature the most technologically advanced civilization ever featured in a Final Fantasy. The storyline will center on "those who resist the world." Yeah, okay.

Going slow are you kidding? I can't type fast enough for all this stuff! Dude that's ONE company conference, we've got KONAMI's coming up. ohmy.gif!
This is seriously rocking last year already.

MS and the 360 are practically completely screwed, so it seems this year. Plenty of support for Sony and Nintendo, but absolutely NONE at all for the 360. That's what you get for re-designing your existing console and trying to sell it as next-gen.
Shakezulah
I'm saying it's slow for the beginning. The later days have tons and tons of updates for all different consoles and developers by the minute, throughout most of the day. Today, nothing really happened until a couple hours ago. There's definately some good news from the SE conference. ANd Konami's is coming up?!?! When?!?! I wanna see what they have to say about SH and MGS.

You guys gotta check these out. First, the new Alone in the Dark game has been announced for the PS3, as it was largely rumored to only be for the 360. Read the new article on it. It sounds amazing.

Also, another new PS3 game from Ubisoft was announced recently, entitled Assassin's Creed. Watch the trailers for it. The game's graphics are breathtaking and the game just looks really awesome, overall.

Final Fantasy XIII. Supposedly, this is real-time on the PS3.

They just showed the trailer at the Sony conference. GameSpot's feed was lagging but you get glimpses at everyone including Raiden and Ocelot. And, a screenshot of Raiden.

Apparently, there will be a playable Demo showing at Konami's conference tomorrow. WOOOO!!!

i thought i may as well put this here, the PS3 pricing has been finalized

499 for a PS3 and a 20GB HD

599 for a PS3 and a 60 GB HD

interesting, going the route of the choice like the 360

BurnSide
Yup, i was just about to add that.
Freaking NUTS, that's drastically reduce sales but, if it's true they cost 850 to make then well, it's a lose-lose situation for Sony.

I bet Nintendo are pissed about Sony's controller. Thank god they got rid of the Boomerang, now it's basically just a normal dual-shock, but lighter, wireless, and completely Gyro-Motion sensitive which was of course Wii's main selling point. Go Sony though, that'll be awesome.

However, it's only a 2d motion control. It has no depth (forward/backward) like the Wiimote, and it cannot be rotated around its axis. Basically, it is a crappier version of the wii controller. thumbsup.gif
BurnSide
Well no question about that. I expect once the Revolution was announced Sony went back to the board on their controller and decided to try and copy Nintendo's remote, which is one of the reasons the PS3 was pushed back so far. They certainly couldn't outdo the Wiimote, i'm not saying that at all, but it's still a copy and Nintendo should be pissed at that, it takes away a little from the originality of theirs.

Yeah, I'm not worried.......yet. What I'm saying is that they announced the motion control, but didn't have many games demostrating it. All of the Wii games will have motion control. What may be a problem is if Sony manages to get Polyphony, Capcom, or Konami to use what little ######ality the controller has in a big way. If they get it to work well with GT5, then people will flock to it. (including me sad.gif )I really wish someone would start making realistic racing sims for Nintendo consoles, or else I'm going to have to buy every Sony console.

I does make me wonder what kind of patents N made to prevent this, and if they are just going to ignore it or go after them for it.
BurnSide
I guess we'll see. Good point though.

First, you brake. tongue.gif It takes some getting used to, and I still fly out of sharp corners on occasion. The best way to learn is to do the license tests. Also during the tests you can press the right analog stick in to get a path to follow through the tracks, and it shows you where to break when it turns red. Beware some of the latter license tests (esp. I-A and Super), because they are really tough. In one such test, you have a Nissan formula car and drive up to 237 mph down a couple of miles of straight road and then make two 90-degree right turns to reach the finish in under 0:58:00. ohmy.gif

The controls are much tighter than in GT2, and the cars don't spin out randomly.
I've had it since last fall, and I've only finished 26.9%. blink.gif It's a big game. I've also done all of it with the DualShock2.
BurnSide
I've not really played racing games before besides the Ridge Racer series, starting on Race Racer, which i absolutely loved. I just can't get the feel of GT, i assume it's very realistic and to be honest, that's not at all what i want in a racing game. i wanna slide around those corners baby!
Well, it was 5 bucks which is why i picked it up. Lovely to look at no question, but damned hard. *shrugs*

Thanks for the tips mate.

You're more of an arcade racing person. I do like arcade racing, but I also like tons of depth and realism, but unfortunately Need for Speed and other Cube arcade racers don't offer that.

Well, if you need more help this is a good place to visit.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/561066.html

I stiil think GT4 needs improvement, and that they mainly need more American/European cars. They had the good idea to have Triumph and MG in the game, but only included one Spitfire and two different MGFs. mad.gif What about TR3A, TR4, TR6, MGA, MGB, and even the Midget? However, they have at least a dozen variations of the same Nissan GT-R. mad.gif

Bad news for the 20GB PS3:

E3 2006: PS3 20 Gig Missing Features?
Images of system with smaller hard drive missing HDMI input, other features.
by Jeff Haynes
May 8, 2006 - The announcement earlier tonight that the PS3 would come in two separate configurations easily caught the ear of PS3 fans eager for any news of Sony's system. However, upon closer analysis of the images for the systems itself, a rather curious system feature seemed to be missing from the 20 gig configuration.

Looking at the official press site of SCEA, we noticed that the PS3 with the 20 gigabyte hard drive seemed to lack HDMI support. This seems to be confirmed by an offical press release from SCEA, which indicates via comparison between the two systems. However, it also indicates that the 20 gigabyte system won't have Memory Stick, SD or Compact Flash reading capability or WiFi support. Even worse, it appears that rumble doesn't appear to be included with the new six axis sensing controller.

Could the 20 gig become a gamer shunned system? When Microsoft launched the Xbox 360, consumers hated the Core system that didn't come with a hard drive and other features, quickly dubbing it the "tard pack." Will the 20 gig suffer the same fate? We'll have more details as we get them from the show.

Yay! I'm finally home from work. It doesn't sound like I missed a whole lot. The MGS4 info sounds great.

And thanks for posting all that PS3 info. That's damn expensive. I really don't want to spend 600 bucks on a system, because there's no way I would get the 20GB version with the way it sounds. I seriously better start saving for it soon.

And about the controller....yeah, Nintendo has gotta be pissed. I mean, it's still cool, but Nintendo needs to remember that their version will easily be better than the PS3 version. I kinda liked the Boomerang controllers, though....I think I'm the only person on the planet who thinks so, though. tongue.gif

Huh? What did you expect, with two new unknown systems that people want to know more about... compared to one thats already out. Its like comparing a movie thats been out for a year, to a couple that are just about to hit the cinema's... They are OBVIOUSLY going to have more hype about them.....

I can't really see how you can criticise Xbox's 360 for being much the same, when I can't see the big difference about the PS3....
Ciraxis
it all comes down to how the games play, not how they look.
Walken
Let me spell it out for you, Captain Burns.

- XBOX 360 is more powerful for general performance. FACT.
- From a consumer stand-point, both machines are equally powerful. Now, I could - quite easily - find evidence that the 360 is slightly more powerful; Because it is. I won't, because I don't believe any developer will even get close to the higher limits of the consoles power in this generation. The consoles are equal, end of.
- Microsoft will be heading into the next-gen console war with an 8-10 million units head start. On top of that, 360 sales are expected to spike to a collossal extent (I kid you not) upon the announcment of Halo 3.

So for you to peddle the blatant lie (and extreme account of misinformation on your part) that the 360 is less powerful than the PS3, not worthy of the title 'next-gen', is not only unexpected but also extremaly stupid. Kudos on that, really. thumbsup.gif

I heard that the PS3's conference was quite a let down. I suppose that's the only draw back with showing pre-rendered footage one year and less impressive real-time the next. Still, I'll bet they don't regret the wave it put them on for hype.

The Wii is looking awesome, so far through the conference. It looks like too much of a work-out though... tongue.gif

I agree partly that MS don't have much to show. Fortunatley they have a massive line of software (Halo 3, anyone?) to push them through.

The Alan Wake preshow impressions have been released. Gamespot reports it:

QUOTE
E3 06: Alan Wake Preshow Impressions
"I was a writer, before my life fell apart. My name is Alan Wake." What's going on with this guy, anyway?
By Brad Shoemaker, GameSpot
Posted May 9, 2006 1:00 pm PT
LOS ANGELES--At last year's E3, one of the most interesting and enigmatic titles on offer was Alan Wake, the new game from Max Payne developer Remedy. But where that game was a hard-boiled third-person shooter, Wake is...what? We still don't really know, and Microsoft's main marketing man Peter Moore didn't help much by describing it simply as a "genre buster" at the company's pre-E3 media briefing today at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. The phrase "psychological thriller" has been thrown around from time to time, so we expect there will be heavy adventure elements involved.

Based on a new trailer we saw at the conference today, we can at least say that the game is looking awfully good. The trailer showed subtitles referring to Wake's bizarre predicament: "I was a writer, before my life fell apart." He says he came to a small town to escape the past, so he could sleep again. But what is he running from? What's keeping him from sleeping? During all this we see scenes of the idyllic town, day shifting to night, and finally Wake himself alone in the forest, clutching a lantern in one hand and a pistol in the other, getting all emo about how scary it is to be awake in the darkness. Obviously something creepy is going on, though we still don't know what's got Wake all creeped out.

There are plenty of questions yet to answer about Alan Wake, as we still haven't seen what the gameplay will be like--and aside from the final shot of Wake himself, we haven't really even seen the game's visuals, since the previous scenes may or may not have been CG. At least Moore did drop the tidbit that the game will be exclusively available on the 360 and Windows, cutting out the previously assumed PS3 version. In any event, we'll certainly bring you more details on this intriguing game as soon as we get them. Keep your eyes here as all E3's secrets are laid bare over the next few days.

E3 2006 News | Nintendo Wii Gets Connected
Connecting all day, every day...

By Mike Mason (Mason)

At their pre-E3 conference, Nintendo announced a new feature on Wii integral to their new strategy - WiiConnect24. The idea is that the system will stay connected online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even after the system is shut down.

Upon shutting off Wii, it will switch into a low power consumption mode, while remaining online. While it is in this state, new content can be beamed to your system while you are away or sleep, or other players can leave you messages. An example of its use was cited in reference to Animal Crossing - a player from another town might come over and leave you a gift as you are away without you even being about.

Somewhat disconcertingly, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata named Wii as "the system that never sleeps". Nintendo are hoping to keep the console 'fresh' by ensuring it is different everyday, to make people keep wanting to come back for more to see what has gone on while they've not been around. "What we are aiming for is a system that is new every day," Iwata said.
