I recently saw
this in the Multimedia Gallery on the site. I live not too far from Westmoreland County, PA (I'm in Allegheny) and I'm intrigued by this recording. Does anyone have any more information on this?

I can hear something that sounds like a scream, but what is that loud annoying sound that plays out throughout the entire movie? Sounds like someone who is blowing into a mic non stop.

It sounds like the muffled audio from any Japanese monster movie. I've heard of supposed Bigfoot sighting in the Westmoreland County area but do you really think the area could sustain an undetected colony of large primates? It's not a booming metropolis but it's pretty heavily populated with people when compared to the Pacific Northwest.
I'm in Pittsburgh, BTW.

I agree fully. Especially with all the hunting that goes on around here. There is just not enough woods to hide one of those things, let only a colony. They'd be sighted far more often.

I recall reports a few years ago of large predatory cats in the wooded areas of Westmoreland County and I'm more interested in that. There's a growing number of sightings in the Central PA area of mountain lions as well as timber wolves and coyotes -- something that the PA Game Commission flatly denies. Mountain lions were heavily populated in this state (which is how the Penn State Nittany Lions were named) but have supposedly been hunted into extinction.
But talk to any rural hunter in Central PA and they'll adamantly tell you of sightings and encounters and full-blown conspiracy theories where insurance companies are in cohoots with the Game Commission to secretly import coyotes and mountain lions into the area to hunt the deer and cut down on auto insurance claims. I've even heard about a farmer who made repeated calls to the PA Game Commission to take action on a supposed coyote that was killing his livestock on a nightly basis. According to the story, the Game Commission told the farmer with each phone call that there were no coyotes or moutain lions or timber wolves or whatever in the state. The farmer finally shot and killed the coyote and called the Game Commission and told them "Come out here and pick up your dead coyote." Much to their embarrassment, the coyote had a PA Game Commission tag in its ear.
Sorry to veer off subject, but I didn't see the point in starting a new thread since mountain lions, coyotes and timber wolves aren't cryptids, except in Pennsylvania according to the PA Game Commission.

No Coyotes? I live in Kittanning, if you've ever heard of it. I once saw a coyote in a field behind my grandparents' house... Their neighbor (illegally) shot it through the window... it's a VERY rural area.... and went out and got it and brought it to their porch... they lived in condos so it was all connected and all the redneck neighbors came out and admired it. The one neighbor called the game commission and they came out and took it and fined the guy a lot of money... but there was no coverup or anything that I know of. They didn't seem to deny that they were around here... Probably because the proof was right there.
Then again, the government would deny the existance of aliens if a ship full of them landed in the middle of Times Square.

I haven't heard much of TImber Wolves, but Mountian Lions and Coyotes I've heard plenty about. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine keeps a motion camera in his treestand while he's not there, and his actually snapped a photo of it. Either he still has it or he brought it to a Game Office.

( My neighboor's cat does like that when it's hungry, seriously )
And they recorded that scream and ??? Did they see the creature which "produced" that noise ?
If they saw it and it was something "unexplained" (and not a bear mating or a trapped dog) why didn't they took a pic of it ? They had recording equipment with them, but they didn't had cameras ?
Oh come on
could be anything and it could also be manufactured

Well as for BF's in Pennsylvania - we nned only refer to the famous Greensburg sighting - were briefly - a farmer and his hired help winessed a large glowing orb in the middle of their field - they approached it and were confronted by two BF's. Naturally they blasted these BF's with whatever armaments they carried. The BF's took off running and so did the men. When they returned there was a strange cloaked entity (in the Bela Lugosi tradition) and he communicated with the primary farmer in no uncertain way. The farmer took to chasin his dogs around and snarling at anyone who would come near him...he suffered near total mental collapse. The telepathically-communicating cloaked entity part often gets conveniently left out of the telling. It may well be central. Google for Greesburg +ufo - the story is only to be found on the second page ...what cnfuses things is that Stan Gordon is from Greensburg but he is central to the Kecksburg UFO investigation. Stan has a phone number but he generally doesn't return calls. This Greensberg incident is not to be confused with the Kecksburg incident. Stan Gordan can be a little elusive but he knows the full story - although he likes to omit the cloaked entity portion of it...Repeat after me .....Cloaked entity and Bigfoot plus Greensburg < it happened.
Let me find some links - although I have to paste them in their entirety - this editor is not allowing me to paste or post hot active links.....mmmm I'll post later - I just got in..

Alright, ya sucked me in and my interest is re-piqued. Is this the same cryptozoologist who has appeared on the Art Bell / George Noory show? This was a couple of years ago and I don't remember the details other than it was a cryptozoologist from the Southwestern PA area telling generic eight- to nine-foot hairy creature sightings.
If you're throwing a Bela Legosi-type "bigfoot master" into the mix who's cursing insanity upon eyewitnesses, that's gold! I got a feeling that if we dig further, we'll find anecdotal accounts of inner earth mole people and theories of "interdimensional beings" on top of the UFO connection to Bigfoot. Anybody theorize yet that Bigfoot is traversing the country via connected underground tunnels?
It's that kind of lunacy that has to make serious researchers like Jane Goodall -- a believer who adds a sense of credibility to the study of a large North American primate -- bang her ahead against a wall.

Nice historical treatment on PA strangeness
HIGH STRANGENESS IN NORTHERN PENNSYLVANIA
by Scott Corrales
Pennsylvania's Northern Tier joins with New York State's Southern Tier to form "one region indivisible": almost fifty thousand square miles of forested mountains, rivers, gorges and small, scattered towns originally devoted to the oil industry and latter to logging and manufacturing. This enormous expanse of wilderness, ringed by some of the major cities of the northeast, tells its own tales of high strangeness and UFOs, many of which have never been published elsewhere.
Saucers in the North Country
According to Robert Lyman Sr.'s Forbidden Land: Strange Events in the Black Forest, the very first report of an unidentified flying object in northern Pennsylvania appeared in the Ceres Mail on April 28, 1897. Curiously enough, the report describes the UFO as an "airship" tying it in the with still-unexplained "phantom airship" scare of the late 19th century, chronicled elsewhere by researchers Lucius Farish and Jerome Clark:
"The wonderful flying machine," begins the editorial in the Ceres Mail, "which has been the subject of so much comment in the newspapers of the country...passed over the city of Erie and out over the harbor....from Sharon comes the story that the flying machine was seen by reputable persons...and they allege that three men were visible on the machine, which was in the shape of a huge cigar and traveled approximately 2,000 feet above the earth."
On February 9, 1913 "a procession of fireballs" crossed the night skies in a formation of nearly twenty bright objects lasting several minutes. The event, which seemed drawn straight from the works of Charles Fort, terrified the local population and was allegedly seen as far north as Canada.
But the bulk of UFO activity waited until the flying saucer explosion of the late 1940's before strange craft graced the skies of northern PA.
Bradford, the turn of the century's oil producing capital of the world, had its first series of UFO sightings less than a month after Kenneth Arnold had his fateful sighting near Mt. Rainier. While on an evening stroll down East Main Street on July 20, 1947, George Zenner was startled to look up into the night sky and notice the evolutions of a flattened, discoidal object which appeared self-luminous. He estimated that the object flew "at the height of two telephone poles" across the street, spinning as it went. The thing flew soundlessly over the Dresser-Rand factory between Fisher and Oxford streets before zooming off westward at considerable speed. A former military spotter during World War II, Zenner's account was considered highly credible. The local Bradford Era ran a banner headline the following morning which read: "Flying saucer passes over East Bradford", detailing similar sightings in New England.
Citing a 1950 account, Robert Lyman's Amazing Indeed discusses the unusual attraction that the oil and gas operations at Hammersley Fork, Potter County, had for UFOs. One H.M. Cranmer explained that the saucers "showed much curiosity" as they hovered "from rig to rig", remaining over them for a while prior to vanishing skyward into the night. Cranmer also witnessed other saucers in October 1954, also flying over the same part of Potter County.
He was not alone: on October 14, 1952, four people enjoying a warm fall afternoon near Sartwell Creek were startled by the sudden appearance of a circular, metallic sphere which gave the impression of being made of brushed aluminum. The witnesses described it as windowless and wingless, moving silently as it vanished on a westward course.
On July 18, 1961, a silver disk was reportedly seen flying westward at an estimated altitude of twelve hundred feet. Visibility on that day was perfect. Startled eyewitnesses reportedly saw the object disappear and reappear shortly after as if encased in a self-generated fog.
Sightings such as these occurred at regular intervals until the 1966 UFO flap came about: Pennsylvania's Elk, McKean and Potter Counties found themselves being the unwilling hosts to a variety of configurations of UFO that hovered low over the treetops and even above county roadways. One of the most memorable cases of the 1966 flap involved an anonymous woman who visiting friends in the town of Colesburg. As was getting ready to cross the New York State line to return home, her car went around a dark bend in the road and almost collided into a UFO which sat squarely in the middle of the two-lane road.

Suspect who Tortured, Killed Pet Rabbit Sought
Anyone with information is asked to call the animal cruelty officer at 724/539-0244 or state police in Westmoreland County
(KDKA) Hempfield Twp Officials are hoping a $1,000 reward will help lead them to the person who took a child's pet rabbit from his cage in Westmoreland County, then tortured and killed the animal.
The owner of "Maury" found the rabbit's mutilated body near the intersection of Vine and Hamil Streets in Hempfield Township last week. Don Heagy says someone took the pet out of the cage last Wednesday around midnight or Thursday morning.
An autopsy confirms that someone then used a knife to split the rabbit open -- leaving its carcass in the middle of the street.
"Such a senseless act -- you know, taking that innocent life. Maury was the friendliest rabbit we had -- of any kind of pet... Any stranger that would have come up to the cage, it would come up to and was just friendly and would not have shied away -- and would have no idea what was in store for it." -- Don Heagy, Rabbit's Owner
While this act of cruelty may be the work of adolescent vandals, the FBI estimates that more than half of all serial killers start out by killing animals.
Humane Officer Elaine Gower says if the person who did this isn't caught and stopped -- it could lead to even worse violence.
"It tends to be an adolescent behavior -- more often males; and unfortunately, is a very big predictor of violence toward people later in that child's life. " -- Elaine Gower, Humane Officer
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information in this case.
Anyone with information is asked to call the animal cruelty officer at 724/539-0244 or state police in Westmoreland County.
An animal cruelty conviction could put the person responsible in jail for up to two years -- and cost up to $5,000 in fines. [/b]

Stan Gordons Article - it's available at various web boards.... 25 Years ago today-A scary UFO encounter
From the files of UFO researcher Stan Gordon
This is a review of this classic event which I posted on the
25th anniversary of the case: October 25, 1998.
October 25, 1973
Fayette County, PA
Twenty five years ago, I was directing the Westmoreland County UFO Study Group based in Greensburg. I had started this volunteer research group in 1970, and I had established a good relationship with law enforcement and the news media in western Pennsylvania. Then in 1973 a major UFO wave broke out across the country, and hundreds of sightings were being reported in the Keystone state. Then to make the situation even stranger, sightings of Bigfoot-like creatures began to be reported over a multi-county area in both western and eastern Pennsylvania. These reports continued for several months then began to slow down.
Interestingly, the media and police agencies for the most part took the reports seriously, And our UFO Hotline number was literally deluged with reports and questions. While some police agencies were investigating some incidents, they were commonly referring the reports to our group to investigate, and in some cases our teams were assisting the agency involved.
I had set up a communications center in my home, and we were radio dispatching investigators to the sites as reports were coming in. We were conducting this research around our regular jobs, but in many cases, we had teams on site within minutes to hours after a UFO or creature sighting was reported. But it was one case which occurred, that made myself and my associates aware, that there were some aspects of the UFO and Bigfoot mystery that are even stranger than were first apparent.
As I have stated since this event, most unexplained UFO sightings are not reported with Bigfoot encounters. And most sightings of Bigfoot have no association with UFO reports. But here in PA we investigated a few cases, where both were seen at the same time. In other cases, A UFO
would be reported in an area, and soon Bigfoot reports would come from that area, or vise versa. What association there exists between the two anomalies if any, remains open to speculation. I must stress, these cases are historically rare, but some are well documented. It was my position as an investigator to gather the data, and present the information, not hide the facts that were uncovered because it would cause controversy from both Cryptozoologists and UFOlogists who have their theories as to what these phenomena represent.
Briefly, on the night of October 25, 1973, My UFO Hotline was active with UFO reports from around the state. About 10:30 P.M. that evening, I received a call from state trooper from the Uniontown barracks concerning an incident which he had just returned from investigating. One of those involved, was put on the phone for me to interview. At about 9 P.M. about 15 people observed a very large red spherical object hovering low in the sky which began to descend towards a pasture. The witness and two boys proceeded up the field and observed a white dome shaped object on the ground that illuminated the area, and was making a loud whirring sound. It was estimated at about 100 feet in diameter. They were about 250 feet from the object, and about 75 feet from a fence line. Walking along the fence line were two tall figures, 7 to 9 feet tall, covered with hair, and arms hanging down past the knees, and displaying glowing green eyes.
The creatures were fired upon, first tracers were shot overhead, then live ammo was used. The largest of the two creatures turned towards the other almost touching it, and at the same time the object in the field disappeared, and the sound stopped. The creatures slowly walked towards the woods. One boy had already ran home, the other two left the field, went to the farmhouse and moved the family members to a neighbor's home, and called the state police. When the trooper arrived he and the main witness went to the site, and where the object had landed there was a glowing area, that according to the trooper was about 150 feet in diameter. He said he could read a newspaper from the amount of light that it was emitting. The farm animals refused to go into the area. The witness we talked with has always stated that before they left the field, the largest of the two creatures was seen in the woods about 10 feet from them, and he shot at it and it struck the fence that stood between them.
Later that night our team arrived in the area. Radiation levels normal, glowing area now gone, but animals still wouldn't go near the spot. Strange events began to occur during the early morning hours in this dark secluded location. A farmhouse several hundred feet from us was seen by some in the party to suddenly light up like daylight for several seconds. A bull in the field and a dog seemed unconcerned about us, and were looking into the woods. The main witness, a rather large individual while being questioned, suddenly begins to growl, throwing his father and my assistant George Lutz towards the ground. The man ran into the field growling like an animal and emitting screams, one which was near inhuman. His own dog approaches him as to attack, then runs off whimpering. The man suddenly collapses onto the ground. Then two of my team members begin to complain that they are having trouble breathing. Suddenly the air is filled with a strong odor that can best be described as rotten eggs.
The man as he came out of what appeared to be an almost trance-like state, began talking about visions he saw about the end of the world, etc. Not knowing what could happen next we helped each other back to our vehicles. It was apparent that professional help was required in this case, and eminent psychiatrist Berthold E. Schwarz was contacted. Dr. Schwarz traveled to PA at his own expense and interviewed all of those involved including the eyewitnesses and state trooper. There is much
more detail to this case, and I spent years following the life of the principal involved. There were many para-normal events which reportedly occured in the years following this episode. And many years later in a follow up interview, an MIB event associated with the case was revealed.
For a more detailed account of the case see Dr. Schwarz's article "Berserk" in Flying Saucer Review, Volume 20, Number 1 (January-February, 1974, or "An Encounter in Fayette County" in True Tales of the Unknown, Vol.II, published by Bantam Books, November, 1989.
This was a well documented event involving numerous individuals who had no interest in the unusual. But it seems that the circumstances of this case affected many of those who were involved.
If you are aware of any similar cases please contact me. Please check out my website at www.westol.com/-paufo

Please, please I implore you - no cheesy one-line self-absorbed responses. Minimmum of a paragraph or two. Type - it's free! Not only type but 'selecet all' and set font size to 4 and bold. I don't need to lose my vision ....like I lost my hearing (to Rock n Roll).
And consider disabling your signature - it might not be as fantastic as you'd like to think. Your big glitzy or gaudy signature does not make-up for legitimate typed-input- do us all a favor -- remove the check mark in 'enable signature' - it's that simple! Let's move on.
