MILLERSPORT, Ohio -- Is it a lion? A coyote? Or is it just an extremely large cat? Central Ohioans have a variety of opinions about an animal that has been seen in the area for the last two years.
Bob Lombardo, of Lewis Center, e-mailed nbc4i.com some pictures of an animal that emerged from the woods near his home on Saturday night.
Lombardo said the animal had an "awkward stride," was lean, and its tail dragged on the ground.
He said the animal looked like a coyote and was fast-moving.
No one knows for sure whether the animal Lombardo saw was connected to animals seen this week in Pataskala and just north of Columbus.
John Kaminsky said he saw an animal 20 feet in front of him run across Millersport Road.
He said the tail was too long to be a coyote.
Kaminsky was one of two drivers who said they saw a large animal with a huge, bushy tail run across a farm field and then dart across the road, before disappearing into the trees.
"It was sleek, quick and the color was gray and black," Kaminsky said.
"It was different. I've seen fox. I've seen coyote. I've seen every kind of animal. I'm nearly 70 (years old). I've been around, but I've never seen an animal look like that," he said.
Kaminsky said the animal ran across a field and disappeared into a group of trees.
The farmer who owns the land said he's seen a lot of deer and a few coyotes, but Kaminksy said the animal's tail was too long to be a coyote.
"It could have been a coyote, but I've never seen a coyote with as long a tail as it had," he said.
There has been no confirmation of a lion running around Central Ohio.
Reports of lion sightings began surfacing in May 2004, when there were several reports of a creature roaming in the New Albany and Gahanna areas.
Similar reports were made in Granville and Zanesville, NBC 4 reported.

Its about time something interesting happened in bland old Ohio.

I see a big solid black square. Is it supposed to be the picture? It reminds me of my life. Nevermind, I had to save the pic and then brighten it up. Well, it looks like a stupid dingo. Whatever it is, it's not cool. And it better stop sh***ing in my yard. I'm not laughing.

Looking at the pic I wouldn't say so. Too short legs, too short body, too pointy snout. Looks like a jackal to me, only the tail is too long.

Its not a Cheetah, its got a longer snout and the chest isn't large enough or tall enough.
Its sux everytime theres a "Mysterious Animal" photo, they claim there 20' or close to it and the photo not clear enough to figure it out.... ALWAYS.

^What kind of house cats have you been around?
The body structure, the face, and the tail don't seem very feline to me at all.
I believe whatever it is, its mostly likely canine.

there isn't really any good scale reference, except maybe in the first one, a couple of bushes... but then again, how big is a bush!?
I'd say definitely a dog. Whether its a fox, alsatian, or possibly a red wolf/coyote hybrid; they're becoming way more common... too common!

RKD Red wolf isn't native to this half of the country so I doubt that's the case. I would say it's certainly is canine probably coyote, coyote/ dog hybrid, or a dog. Just keep one thing in mind the only native wild canines that live here are the coyote , red fox, and the grey fox.

First off definetly not a maned wolf I'm 99% sure the zoo doesn't have one and if they did and it escaped I would have seen something on the News since I watch the Columbus local news most nights. Secondly I think probably fox maybe a coyote or dog or hybrid you can't be 100% sure with a grainy photo that doesn't have any solid point for height reference.

Probably right, I have only seen Shepards and Alsatians (foxes dingoes) in the flesh. I have never seen a Coyote other than telly, but if you reckon Coyote, I'd be happy to take your word on it

I reckon it looks a great deal more canine than feline.
