DALLAS (AP) — A woman convicted of beating and kicking her daughter's teacher in front of the girl's seventh-grade class was sentenced to six months in jail Thursday.
Paulette Baines, 45, was convicted Wednesday of felony assault on a public servant. She also was fined $800 and ordered to pay $14,000 restitution to Mary Oliver.
Baines, a high school teacher, walked into Oliver's science classroom, grabbed Oliver's hair and dragged her across the room while punching her in the face and kicking her, Oliver testified.
The April 2005 attack occurred because Baines was angry about Oliver confronting her daughter for being in the hallway without permission, Oliver testified. Baines was fired after the incident.
She apologized Thursday.
Prosecutors pressed for a more serious conviction of aggravated assault on a public servant, citing Oliver's two broken ribs, concussion, bruises and damaged disks in her neck. The defense argued that Oliver's injuries were not that serious and that she did not qualify as a public servant.
Oliver said she was happy with the verdict. "My goal was for her to never be in the classroom again, and a felony conviction assures that," she said.

And we wonder why our kids today have no respect towards teahcers. It's because the parents treat the teachers worse then the students do.

Well, it is nice to hear of a parent getting involved in their childs education...but I think she may have misunderstood what the goal of the involvement is...
Let's hope that she can figure it out over the next 6 months.
Did I ever mention that some people should never have kids???

is it just me, or does this sound strange? a teacher, beats another teacher to a pulp, over a minor thing like the daughter being in the hall... seems like theres something else going on, we aren't hearing about...

Didn't think of that Pax. That or the mother is mentally unstable.

Oh boy! THIS is the problem with the world - NOT that people beat eachother up... oh no...
The girl was in the hall without permission - she was breaking the rules - so her mother beats up the teacher.
No wonder people have no sense of responsibility. Parents taking their kids side when the kids do wrong...

Perhaps the woman thought because she is also a teacher that her daughter should have some special privileges and be immune from being disciplined. Her daughter broke the rules and she was probably told to get back to class then she moans to mommy and mommy being bull headed thinking because she is a teacher and has a daughter in the school should have been let off so she goes and kick 's the crap out the other teacher.
Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrr she is just barmey!!!

Got to agree with you on this 100%
Crazy how some people have kids when
they are not even mentally stable to raise them.
That's one main reason in which we have so
many people on the streets...their
parents were obviously like this.....

I think there's something they are leaving out...why would a fellow teacher beat up another for telling her child not to be in the halllway? I think something happened to the child.

Frogfish I think I have an anwser. Simply the daughter lied to her mother. The the mother got mad and beat up the woman that was unjustly punishing her daughter.

I remember watching a video of an angry mother a while ago on ebaumsworld where an angry mom punched the teacher in the mouth. Really, what is that going to accomplish?Retards.

Gee... And here I thought that teachers were the last ones to get into a fist fight... Unless they were PE teachers, but MAN!!!!!!!
You know some people take things waaaaaaaaay too far. If the woman was sleeping with her husband, yeah, that's a reason for a fist fight.
Just because you got your daughter in trouble... No, that's where you slowly try to poison them with cafeteria food.
GET IT RIGHT PEOPLE!
