In my opinion Frank Zappa was the strangest mainly because of ideas that have popped out of his mind like the album "Thingfish" which was going to the soundtrack to a Broadway musical of the same name where mutant potato headed, duckbilled creatures called "Mammy-nun's" kidnapped audience members of the Broadway play they happen to be performing in. These bands are few of my favorites and I am not denouncing them by calling them strange. Just sayin

Frank Zappa was a genius and I find it cool that he and Don Van Vliet (aka Captain
Beefheart)actuelly grew up together as best friends. "Trout Mask Replica" by Beefheart is
one the most messed up and totally awsome albums I've heard. It is very subtle, but I
can hear a similarity between the two.

The masks give them a lot of attention, and brings them lots of fans.

You'll find that Hip-Hop, Rap and Whiney "Punk Rock" (Which really isn't punk at all) are becoming increasingly popular, not necessarily Nu Metal, which isn't as widely commercial.

I thought also that Voivod was strange when I saw one of the videos, but, it's a funny strangeness. King Diamond is like that same funny strangeness. 'The Dillenger Escape Plan' has alot of strangeness but in all due respect - very good music.

Slipknot actually tries way too hard to be Satanic, without even comprehending what Satanism IS, because that way they can sell records to little white suburban kids who want to pretend they have some kind of problems. What do those lyrics even mean? "If you're 555?" What? Are we a fake telephone number?
As for SOAD, their first two albums are good...after that it's pure garbage.

I'm sorry, I just have zero respect for a band who uses a gimmick like "scary"(lame) masks and lyrics like "Inside my shell I'll wait and bleed" to reel in the Hot Topic crowd. Those poor kids are so bored with their lives that they have to act like there's some conspiracy against their happiness, which they bring on themselves entirely. I know what I'm talking about with this, I hung out with those kids much of high school and even did some shopping at Hot Topic myself, before I learned better.
I'm not trying to come off as some kind of elitist here, I'm simply saying that there's much better, much less gimmicky music far more worth your listening than nine guys in stupid costumes, like half of whom do nothing more than hit a trash can every once in a while.
EDIT-Ok, I just went to that site to educate myself. Prevalent themes? "I hate everyone, everyone hates me. I want to die, life is so bad. I can't stand anything. I'm so weak that I don't have any kinds of coping abilities because I'm SO SAD AND MAD."
I've never been one to blame music for anything people do...but I can't help but think that maybe if these kids listened to music that wasn't all about how bad life sucks and how bad people suck, maybe they'd open their eyes and embrace something in life, whatever it is.
I used to be stuck in that trap. The Hot Topic clothes, the depressing, angry music...but when it got to a point where I started to hate myself because of the way I was, something had to change. It really is, or at least it was for me, all about how strongminded you are. My friend mentioned something about a Bob Newhart SNL skit(which I've never seen) where he plays a psychiatrist and people come and tell him their crazy illogical fears and his response is, in essence, "Well...stop." And that's really all there is to it.
I'm generalizing, I suppose, but I have a lot of experience with this crap, and it's always followed a distinct pattern.
I hate Slipknot.

Sigur Ros, the singer is a one eyed homosexual and the band is known for their ethereal sound and lead singer Jónsi's near flawless falsetto
On the first three Sigur Rós albums (Von, Von Brigði, Ágætis Byrjun), Jónsi sang most songs in Icelandic but two of them (Von and Olsen Olsen) were sung in 'Hopelandic'. All of the vocals ( ) are in Hopelandic. Hopelandic (Vonlenska in Icelandic) is the 'invented language' in which Jónsi sings before lyrics are written to the vocals. It's of course not an actual language by definition (no vocabulary, grammar, etc.), it's rather a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music and acts as another instrument. Jónsi likens it with what singers sometimes do when they've decided on the melody but haven't written the lyrics yet. Many languages were considered to be used on ( ), including English, but they decided on Hopelandic. Hopelandic (Vonlenska) got its name from first song which Jónsi sang it on, Hope (Von).
