Full Version: Strangest Band?

In my opinion Frank Zappa was the strangest mainly because of ideas that have popped out of his mind like the album "Thingfish" which was going to the soundtrack to a Broadway musical of the same name where mutant potato headed, duckbilled creatures called "Mammy-nun's" kidnapped audience members of the Broadway play they happen to be performing in. These bands are few of my favorites and I am not denouncing them by calling them strange. Just sayin thumbsup.gif

Blood Brothers

Care to elaborate on that one?

Frank Zappa comes in real close with Skinny puppy in strangeness...So I voted for "other" or whatever it was called, can't remember laugh.gif

Strange talent wise, Zappa -- I'm a huge Zappa fan yes.gif

Blood Brothers just have insane lyrics, go read the lyrics to the song "Peacocks Skeleton With Crooked Feathers"

They have some strange masks, but it’s nothing to out of control. By the way Zappa is INCREDIBLY weird too, but had some awesome music.

LOL. WIERD TO ME!

The masks and voices seem evil in a sence. Like playing ACDC backwards you know... satanic lol.

Im sure there is fans out there, im not one. Tis utterly weird to me.

Captain Beefheart is weird, yet also AWESOME! I voted for him, and his magic band.
Astrocreep
Frank Zappa was a genius and I find it cool that he and Don Van Vliet (aka Captain

Beefheart)actuelly grew up together as best friends. "Trout Mask Replica" by Beefheart is

one the most messed up and totally awsome albums I've heard. It is very subtle, but I

can hear a similarity between the two.

Seriously, there music is not very good and the mask thing is just a gimmick, but it shows how good music is being taken over by the nu-metal and generic crappy metal band plague crying.gif

They originally used it to be mysterious, and it stayed because the fans loved it.
The masks give them a lot of attention, and brings them lots of fans.
It's a good idea.

You'll find that Hip-Hop, Rap and Whiney "Punk Rock" (Which really isn't punk at all) are becoming increasingly popular, not necessarily Nu Metal, which isn't as widely commercial.

Anyway, Lordi is a very strange band. Their masks are like Slipknots, but are much.. weirder. They rock happy.gif

Strangest?.................anything by a boy band! Strange that anybody listens to them LOL

Zappa.....
~TheArtOfContact~
Syd Barret ( not a band ) & Mudvayne / Static - X.

I voted other because I think GWAR is pretty strange.

Not good, just strange.
Werewolf of Doom
Coheed and Cambria makes absolutely no sense to anyone who doesn't know the backstory of their songs.

BTW, Xiosk, I love your avatar. Keywork, yay!
~TheArtOfContact~
I thought also that Voivod was strange when I saw one of the videos, but, it's a funny strangeness. King Diamond is like that same funny strangeness. 'The Dillenger Escape Plan' has alot of strangeness but in all due respect - very good music.

The Swirlies were definitley strrrrange. Big Black - the strange punk band pic.

Yeah the story that invoked, Coheed, Cambria, Apollo, Newo etc. Are needed to comprehend the band.

I know, I myself believe Jordison is a rather impressive drummer and they did do a good job for publicity, i'm just saying I don't like their songs very much I just felt like a quick rant about something at 4:00 AM.

I also forgot about G.G. Allen and the Murder Junkies...he was seriously f'd up.

The stuff they have in Japan is weird. REALLY weird. I can't remember what it's called right now. I'll get back to you.....

Japanese punk and metal is scary, as Peelander Z for example...

The band "Melt Banana", I think is from Japan, is very bizarre. I heard them once and never wanted to hear them again.

I agree. they don't just sound satanic; I believe they are; especially when they said
"You're 555 and I'm 666".I like some of their songs, but I rarely listen to them
because of the fact that I believe they're satanic.

Also system of a down sounds pretty crazy, Antichristean, and stupid.
system of a down's lyrics to me sounds stupid, has no sense/message,
and has pure hate in them.

System of a Down’s lyrics made complete sense, their just very metaphorical and highly political. None of these bands are satanic, a gimmick at the best, thanks for stereotyping.
OlDrippy34
Slipknot actually tries way too hard to be Satanic, without even comprehending what Satanism IS, because that way they can sell records to little white suburban kids who want to pretend they have some kind of problems. What do those lyrics even mean? "If you're 555?" What? Are we a fake telephone number?

As for SOAD, their first two albums are good...after that it's pure garbage.

As for a strange band, though...Ween, anyone? I throw their name around here a lot, but hey, if the shoe fits...

Maybe you should look for lyrical meaning before you completely ruin an opinion of a band, you have a right to it, but educate yourself on the topic.
I do agree with you about the SOAD thing, their new albums are major sellouts.
OlDrippy34
I'm sorry, I just have zero respect for a band who uses a gimmick like "scary"(lame) masks and lyrics like "Inside my shell I'll wait and bleed" to reel in the Hot Topic crowd. Those poor kids are so bored with their lives that they have to act like there's some conspiracy against their happiness, which they bring on themselves entirely. I know what I'm talking about with this, I hung out with those kids much of high school and even did some shopping at Hot Topic myself, before I learned better.

I'm not trying to come off as some kind of elitist here, I'm simply saying that there's much better, much less gimmicky music far more worth your listening than nine guys in stupid costumes, like half of whom do nothing more than hit a trash can every once in a while.

EDIT-Ok, I just went to that site to educate myself. Prevalent themes? "I hate everyone, everyone hates me. I want to die, life is so bad. I can't stand anything. I'm so weak that I don't have any kinds of coping abilities because I'm SO SAD AND MAD."

I've never been one to blame music for anything people do...but I can't help but think that maybe if these kids listened to music that wasn't all about how bad life sucks and how bad people suck, maybe they'd open their eyes and embrace something in life, whatever it is.

I used to be stuck in that trap. The Hot Topic clothes, the depressing, angry music...but when it got to a point where I started to hate myself because of the way I was, something had to change. It really is, or at least it was for me, all about how strongminded you are. My friend mentioned something about a Bob Newhart SNL skit(which I've never seen) where he plays a psychiatrist and people come and tell him their crazy illogical fears and his response is, in essence, "Well...stop." And that's really all there is to it.

I'm generalizing, I suppose, but I have a lot of experience with this crap, and it's always followed a distinct pattern.

I hate Slipknot.
Xoisk el Soñador
Ok that’s your opinion and I respect it, I listen to every genre of music and I don’t get sucked into their wholesomeness of nothing, I just like their music. I’m just tried of hearing that lame metal cliché about bands, although it can be applied to some, it doesn’t help the metal bands with depth out there. But that’s not even the topic on here, sorry for interrupting everyone, if you’d like to continue this OlDrippy34 PM me.

Sigur Ros, the singer is a one eyed homosexual and the band is known for their ethereal sound and lead singer Jónsi's near flawless falsetto

On the first three Sigur Rós albums (Von, Von Brigði, Ágætis Byrjun), Jónsi sang most songs in Icelandic but two of them (Von and Olsen Olsen) were sung in 'Hopelandic'. All of the vocals ( ) are in Hopelandic. Hopelandic (Vonlenska in Icelandic) is the 'invented language' in which Jónsi sings before lyrics are written to the vocals. It's of course not an actual language by definition (no vocabulary, grammar, etc.), it's rather a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music and acts as another instrument. Jónsi likens it with what singers sometimes do when they've decided on the melody but haven't written the lyrics yet. Many languages were considered to be used on ( ), including English, but they decided on Hopelandic. Hopelandic (Vonlenska) got its name from first song which Jónsi sang it on, Hope (Von).

Ok...PFlack, your post was impossibly incoherent, so I'm sorry I can't answer any questions you may have had. I just noticed that you quoted my entire post so I figured I'd give an acknowledgement. And I like King Diamond, by the way. I do hate Gwar and Kiss and Mudvayne though.

And Megalomania, I've heard quite a bit of Slipknot. I don't make any kind of judgment about a band unless I've heard them enough to make an educated judgment. And my judgment of Slipknot just happens to be that they suck.

Ah okay, that's better then.
I'm used to people saying they suck without hearing them, so yeah.

It seems to be the trend these days.

However, you may want to read over Wait and Bleed's lyrics again, because you seemed to interpret it very badly the first time.
