Once you go MMORPG, you don't go back. There's just something about playing with real people that makes the gaming experience that much more enjoyable.

There's a few good free ones out there. Runescape - terrible graphics, repeditive gameplay, yet offers a profound amount considering you can play for free.

That's the only good one I can think of. Can you add to the list? Must be free and have reasonably large following.
Celumnaz
Really I don't know anything about free ones... will have to look up Runescape.

Guild Wars is free to play, but you have to purchase the game... I guess that's not what you're talking about though?

It's been a decade+ since I was in a MUD... "Tradewars" was free back in my BBS days...
Desty
Maplestory is pretty good.

But i play Final Fantasy 11, which is not free 13$ a month for 1 char, 1 doller more per each additional char, and theres like 3 20$ expansions for it, its on ps2 pc and 360.

theres tons of cool free mmo websites

check this one http://www.onrpg.com/

f%&# that! mad.gif Final Fantasy 11 really pissed me off when it came out. it was 50$ for the dam thing and the software requirements to play the dam thing would cost even more. so it adds up to being well over 150$. not only that but you have to keep paying just to play it. angry.gif i'm a really big fan of the game series. i wanted so bad to just take a baseball bat to the face of the guy who thought that it was a good idea to make it that way. man what a disappointment no.gif

I thought that, but at £8 a month, thats a very good price (wow is something like, £17 - ew) but its a good game, I enjoy it happy.gif and its a lot better than wow - which is just... ew.

Desty, what realm are you?

Lineage 2.

Knight Online is an ok free MMO, I play Guild Wars too and am soon to be buying FFXI, I just cancelled ymWow subscription about a month ago and I'm hvaing withdrawals, so FFXI will be owning most of my summer...
Master Sage
As a runescape player, I'll back it up. First of all, it's not free if u wanna do much, $5 a month to be a member, which increseces what u can do buy, oh, 6 times. Yes the grachics are terrible (worse then N64 and PS1!), and the game play is a bit repetitive. The good this are the people are great, there's somthing new evey monday, they have a nice fourum going, good manual, lots to do, and appernetly have Player ownned houses coming out soon, a feat for a free MMORPG. original.gif . So yeah, its pretty good, but to be good, its not free.
jobot37
I couldn't stand runescape when I tried to play it a few months ago, Knight Online ftw...although they also try to get a little money out of you by offering special items, but it's still awesome....kinda, I don't play anymore but 'm sure it hasn't changed.

Thats not specific to MMOs.
Raptor
Shattered Galaxy is a good MMORTS (real-time strategy). You build up a small army and fight alongside your team mates in pretty big battles.

Shattered Galaxy
LucidElement
Free MMORPG is Guild Wars.. I played it its great for being free.. not to mention they came out with a new one!
Death Star III
the two best MMORPG games that i know of are runescape and maplestory
punish3ment
Counter Strike costs about $10 and thats free to play, its really good and adictive, worth the money
Doomdoomdoom
Maple Story. Simple 'nuff. It's incredibly repetitive at higher levels but.. All MMOPRGs are.

Since I am addicted to MMORPGS I can name a ew worth taking a look.

Free ones:

-Silk Road
-Heavens Gate <- Really worth the download
-Knight Online
-MU Online
-Fly for Fun or FFonline

Retail ones:

-Lineage 2 ( The best Ever )
-Guild Wars (Its not free, it needs to be purchased) No monthly fee required.
-RF Online. (New and really good, it looks a lot with Phantasy Star from Sega genesis console)
-E.V.E Online. Sci-Fi (Unbelievable Game)

Those are my favorites, thought I will be able to add some more in the upcomming months with the release of:

-Age of Conan
-SUN Online
-LOTR Shadows of Angmar
-Gods and Heroes

Shattered Galaxy

Is this a free MMORTS? I read Terms and Conditions before downloading it and it mentioned credit cards. Is this like RuneScape where you can play free or pay? Or is it a requirement?
Kesenai Tsumi
Hm. Phantasy Star Online...

Not very popular, but i play it, none the less.

Rangers for life! ph34r.gif
The Raven
Rubies of Eventide
A fairly good MMORPG with nice graphics and character options. Only downfall is slow initial load time.

Planeshift
The most unique and enjoyable character creation I've ever used. Limited appearance options and some buggy gameplay, but in development with a hard working team.

Blockland
Not really role playing, but it's an MMO and you are a Lego minifig. It's so fun to build 3d worlds with Legos with other people in the same level.

Anarchy Online
Excellent Sci-Fi MMORPG, I played it for about a year. Free to download and play the basic Anarchy Online game with no expansions, however you can play with people of any expansion, just not use the items/levels/etc gained with those expansions. A MUST PLAY for any serious MMORPG gamer.

Yeah, it's like Runescape. You can play for free or choose to pay to get a few more things. I play it for free and it's still fun. thumbsup.gif

I will definetly have to agree with Runescape!
You get a lot of missions for free!
And if you decide to pay well then the missions just double!
Awesome Game in all though.

Wow I cant wait to see the complete version this is awesome!
Ungodly
I use to play Runescape, but it kinda sucks. Why?

First of all, I'd like to start out by saying that Jagex doesn't have a lot of creativiy. The class system is horrible. There are the three basic classes, Mage, Archer, Warrior. [sarcasm]WOW! That's a lot of creativity Jagex![/sarcasm] On other games I've played (Such as Lineage), not only are there more classes but there are also the sub-classes within each class. I'm not saying Jagex should've copied off them but at least be a little more creative.

Then there's the weapons. rolleyes.gif First of all, 90% of med to high leveled meleers you see walking around will either be holding a scimmy or 2h sword. (Or a rare such as a whip) So they've pretty much taken the point out of any other melee weapon that exists in game. Not to mention the very limited weapon selection for rangers. 98% of rangers will be using a bow! [sarcasm] WOW! That's a lot of variety Jagex![/sarcasm] Crossbows are pointless because well... they suck. No one wants to bother picking up knives, not to mention how weak they are and that they hardly ever work.

And pk'in. Everyone's already heard all that crud about the pk triangle, but let's not forget about the fact that it's damned near impossible to get a decent pk if you aren't a level 126 God on a members server in the 46+ wilderness.

And let's not forget about all the repetive skills in Runescape. No one wants to click on a freakin tree for hours on end Jagex! Why do you think your game has so many freakin autoers! rolleyes.gif

So basically, Jagex has completely ruined some of the main points of their game. That's pretty much it. :-

I don't care if you leave this open or not, I just had to let this out. Well that's all. :hi:

MMORPG are really like most addictive drug........once you start your MMORPG career, you're done ........no friends,no girlfriend,no hangin' out.All you need is someone who can slip you some food under the door .......definitely MMORPG ruuulez, but still it's bad for health.

ShaunZero
I will admit it, they are TOO addicting. I just started playing FlyFF and I've played for approximitley 12 hours today. I know, it's insane. Only reason I played this long was because my girlfriend had to baby sit, so instead of doing something with her, I wasted 12 hours of my life. happy.gif
Raptor
I downloaded FlyFF but the website doesn't work so I can't make an account. hmm.gif

What's the game even about?
LyCaN123
Anarchy Online
Nautik
I used to play Tibia (2d but can be quite fun), and Muonline..
MK ULTRA
Silkroad. thumbsup.gif
Ashiene
Rakion is the BEST free action/MMORPG out there. Its so damned addictive you won't be able to stop playing. Check it out here:

Whats a MMORPG?

A Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.

I play maple story. Been playing that game for 3 years now. YAY!.

another good free one is called Silkroad Online
It is set during ancient china, islam and europe.

another free one is called Water Margin Online
It is like ragnarok.

I caved and now I play WOW...its 15 a month. which sort of stinks, but its worth it.
Dark entity
A couple that i play are:

Endless Online
and
Monster&me

The graphics on endless arn't that good because its 2D and the items/clothing/weapons are a little expensive but its ok to play if you get bored plus its completly free.

Monster & me has a oriental kind of setting to it and as the name sugests you train creatures to fight along side you. It has quite a few quests to do too.
A downside to this game is that the installer file is 600mb so if you have a slow connection it could take ages to download.

homer3212
big MMO list

some are P2P or in development but most of them are free. grin2.gif
Nessieman23
MapleStory would be a perfect game if your a Final Fantasy VII fan, or even a Megaman fan, gameplay is like a mixture, it's really cool...
Yes, I know this thread is old...
Jack_of_Blades
I play Star Wars Combine. It's kind of boring (you can't play for hours on
end or grind for EX or loot), but it's great if you want to learn the politics and
such of the Star Wars Universe.

I going to go check out Runescape.
InHuman
Can someone name some graphical mmos with low system requirments.
