Does anyone know of a site that keeps up with what the largest forums on the net are? Most members/hits?

I'm pretty sure UM is one of, if not The largest "unexplained" type site on the net.

Just wondering how it compares, and what the largest is, what subject matter is the largest about? A sports forum, car forum?

Anyone know of somewhere that keeps up with that?

I spent a while trying to find the same thing, the largest forum I remember finding is http://forums.offtopic.com/

The biggest forum I'm a member of is FSU. There's not so much action now as it's off season, but you should've seen it during the Olympics!

Nothing beats Gaia in terms of big community, I had just posted a topic in the general discussion forums there and after refreshing (a few secs) it was already at 8 from top and with 5 votes on the poll '.'

In some other times I also got 6 answers in about 8 seconds.

I've never heard of any of them....lol

This is the main one I use. I have posted on a couple of others but this is the biggest one I've ever used and the only one I've ever used regularly.

From what I understand, gaiaonline is the biggest forum on the net. Unexplained-mysteries is the biggest paranormal forum on the net, and overall the 92nd largest. That was as of 2 months ago (approx.) when Saruman posted the details. it is altogether possible we've grown since then and moved up the rankings a little.

As far as quality of posts, this is the best forum I've found. Gaiaonline may be the biggest, but the posts that I've seen over there have been really shocking - one line replies about what people had for dinner/lunch, for example. If you think we have a spam problem, check them out blink.gif

Yes, I understand what you mean, that's how i felt during the first day there, but once you get more time around you find that there are actually lot's of interesting people and not so many spammers, they do have a forum for spammers called chatterbox (the way to earn money in gaia is by posting and other forum related stuff), oh, and there might be a little spamming problem in the general discussion forum but what is more troubling in that forum is the misleading titles, by a title you can sometimes think that a person is some kind of psycho but then you go in and see that they are actually talking about those people.

On the rest of the forums the spam problem isn't much usual, except by what we call noobs who post in wrong forums or damn annoying people.

I was surprised that my second thread got moved in the first day cause I didn't really expect there to be any team of moderators.

Thanks for that bahamut. I think I'll stick with UM though.

A good indicator of relative board sizes is this site: Big Boards

It lists all the forums on the internet with over 500,000 posts, and there are over 1700 of them out there.

At the moment we rank 883rd largest. thumbsup.gif

Hmm, where did I get 92 from then? I'm sure there was a 92 in the number somewhere. Maybe 892?, 992? I don't know. It's still a big board, it has to be it's on a site alled "big boards".

Oh well grin2.gif

Somethingawful.com has to have some of the biggest forums around. The post quality is the best I've seen anywhere also.

I'm not really looking for more forums to visit... have my share already of what I think are pretty good ones. Just wondered if there was a site that collected the information.

Going through the categories, under "Society" subtopic "Mysteries" there's only 1 hit, UM. original.gif

I don't have time to visit anywhere else.

I've been to many forums. Despite the variations in size.... UM is above average.

And, without a doubt, the interesting people, the cool people if you will, lie in this FORUM. UM.

This forum will only grow. grin2.gif

I see Saruman found the answer.

Here's a site that ranks traffic of all websites. Unexplained Mysteries is number 33,204

Is this really all being run on a single 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 Server?

If so, that would explain why my posts always take ages to load.

My home forum is 313,849.....

The information on that page is out of date, the site is running off two P4 2.8 HT's, one a dedicated database server and the other a dedicated apache server.
