The Lost Arches, a gold discovery made by at least several miners in transit. Seems each removed a fair amount of gold, made landmarks, but no one ever returned to this place twice.
Northeast CA: family enroute to Oregon picked up golden rock, used it for doorstop. There was a group that organized to find the origin, but when arrived, had been buried by landslide.
Mountain east of Antelope Valley: supposedly a cave discovered, followed, and found an underground river whose beaches were black sand laden with gold. The discoverer was screwed out of his find, and blew the tunnel to close access to river.
Has been written of that there was an undergound city north of Death Valley, described by an archaeologist, who said there were tech devices in this cave. Discovery around 1930, he described devices which could only be something like microwave ovens, along with other interesting things. All his writing is discounted, why is unknown.
In Arizona desert, supposedly a burial cave in a gulch with Roman remains, including swords, leathers, etc.
Various medicine circles indicating what is unknown, deserts east of Antelope.
In the southwest, legends of strange animal development, especially in the "gravity well" around San Diego and points south and east. When I flew in the area, there were no fly zones to the south and west, apparently loss of aircraft in the area. Supposedly all linked to gravitic anomalies similar to the Bermuda Triangle.
Northern CA: supposedly the interior of Shasta has caves containing remnants of people living there. Don't know, but kind of doubt this one, although there is much strange stuff in that area. Could be, I guess.
In the Sierra, numerous "bad spots": indians avoided most of these, they were bad medicine, containing residue (spiritual) from ancient peoples, including some red-haired giants (averaging slightly over 10 feet in height). The remains of those giants have been unearthed and is well documented. Appears that there may be some relationship to the 'Red Paint people' of the Arctic (when it was not covered in ice). Of course, you people who consider the archaeologists to be all knowing will dispute that, but it remains as fact.
More often in CA it seems that the evidence is more recent, with some noteable exceptions, such as the spark plug inside a geode, approximate age of 400,000 years.
Now, some of the things that have been mentioned are likely as not fake or incorrect. However, most have been verified, and are classed as OOPART by the "experts". I won't argue the points made, done that, and NO ONE has been able to convince me that the most of these mentioned things are either fake or don't exist (because I've seen and visited many of them).

If you're willing to go north a bit, east and south of Coulterville, and have a good 4WD that isn't too wide, and are interested in the old mines and such, there is an incredible number of places that likely haven't been visited in decades.
North Fork Merced, the Merced, and points south in the Sierras were a favorite place of mine for exploration. Got into some interesting predicaments with my Trooper II, but it did a good job getting me through. Found old mines, camps, towns not on maps, etc. Roads that ended in cliffs, rails on top of mountains, and so on. Would like, some day, to visit the area around the Yellow Aster.
Fun!

I used to ride out in the stoddard wells / bell moutain area and we explored quite a few mines and there were a few that definetly had inhabitants, never seen anyone but bedding/utensils etc plus the feeling of not belonging there was enough for us to leave.
we were doing an offroad trip from barstow ca to laughlin nv and this happened about 20 mins after we had already left so I didnt see it happen but several friends who witnessed it told me about it later as well as reading about it later in the paper.
about 12 years ago near barstow kevin kipp was sitting on the train tracks and adjusting the idle/choke on his bike and not paying attention and was hit by a train, well this kind of thing shouldnt happen but it does in this world but thats not the wierd part the weird thing is I live in AZ now and happen to work with a woman whos husband works for santa fe railroad and we happend to be on the subject of ghost stories about a year ago and one of the things he mentioned was a story about a guy on a motorcycle on the railroad track that disappears when the train gets close. could just be a BS story that was made up from the accident or maybe his ghost/spirit is still there.just thought it was kind of odd

Oh man, Antelope Valley is gorgeous in the spring. I live by the Joshua Tree National Park myself, and I don't really know of any desert mysteries despite living here for 14+ years.

There is the place called 'Lost Arches', as the story goes, many transient miners found the place. Legend has it that it is somewhere in the southern Sierra Nevada or northern Mojave. It is a very rich source, and has been found numerous times (legend), but only once by individuals or groups. Even those who have left markers either find the markers gone, destroyed, moved, and so on, or they can't find them at all. So the Arches has a spirit that won't allow anyone to actively mine it(?). But it is documented by the miners themselves, and the ones that have found the Arches always show up with a bag full of gold. Those who do try to find it a second time seem to go broke from the looking.
Out by Glamis and the dunes, there is (was) a railway. One fellow told the story on his deathbed that he had gotten lost in a sandstorm, and as he was wandering trying to find his way, he came across a place where the winds had stripped the sands from the bedrock. Scattered around on the bedrock were nuggets of gold. The fellow picked up as many as he could fit into his pack (and carry), marked the place, and went on his way. He was found on the railroad tracks some days (according to him) later, and died from exposure and dehydration several days later. He told his story to a bedside companion, who doubted it until the dying man showed him his pack, filled with gold. The man willed his belongings to the companion, including the gold, and the companion searched for the place for years without ever finding anything.
About 20 years ago, there was an article in Treasure Hunters written by a guy who found a desert placer in Arizona near the California border, near the above story about the dunes. Three friends went on this 'safari', and they had taken to searching for lost mines; found the placer while doing their searching. According to the article, the three took out a large coffee can of gold and a medium sized cigar box of nuggets 1 oz and larger. He wouldn't give the exact location, for obvious reasons, but the total take was close to $1 million.
There are numerous placer and hard rock abandoned mines in the North Fork Merced river area, south of the park. However, anyone going in there should have a good USGS map and compass, or a GPS. I'd also recommend a very good 4WD, and by that I don't mean an all wheel drive: you definitely need a rig with a low range, and best to have a winch. Some of those roads are very bad, and require a lot of care if you plan on driving back out. One I ran one time (in Igor, a 1953 Dodge M37B1 military 6x5 weapons carrier) appeared to be quite driveable, but there was a spot if going too fast where the road simply dropped out of sight and continued a few feet ahead. If one were to be doing 15 mph and not keeping a close eye on the road, the front would drop into that thing with no way out except to winch backwards. With Igor, I went around it, but I wouldn't recommend that with anything less.
