I'm not a saavy internet forum user, but from what I gather LOL must mean laugh out loud. Seems like it gets used in some of the strangest and inappropriate places. "My mother just died today LOL", "Got hit by a car LOL", etc. If LOL means something else please fill me in.
While were on the subject of laughing, have you ever noticed that every story people tell has to end with "we were laughing"? I guess it's a way of saying that even though you didn't find my story amusing, someone somewhere did.

I hate using LOL it's used far to much on messenger. Like I'll tell my friend

She Will say "Me To LOL"
Or the conversation will go nowhere so I will say
Wow ur quiet or something like that she will say

It's very annoying. And the thing is I met this person I go to school with her!!! It's like gosh STOP TYPING LOL!!!!

I know what you mean, lol

On the train on the way to university, there's a brick wall with graffitti on it. Seems like some new crazy gang started up - "THE LOL KRUE". Yes folks, I kid you not, someone graffitied this on to a wall

lol, I think this should have been a blog entry though.

In other words, I actually laugh.

my friend told me that lol means "laugh over life"

If it would, maybe it was more understandable that people use it so much...
but if it means Laugh Out Loud (and I didn't know that), then its really too much...
anyway, I knew it is connected with laughter...

There is nothing I hate more than "lol". Well, there is, but lol is up there. It is way overused and is used when there is nothing better to say. it is the single reason why I have half of the people on my MSN Messenger blocked.

Yes, we over-use LOL to the point that it is a daily word that we use without even thinking about it...lol. Oh there I go again, lol.
I think it shows a brighter side of humanity; just look at SheriBerri. She is always cheerful and she uses LOL twice each sentence.
Maybe LOL is getting over-used for the better......?

This is so disgustingly true. I'm so tired of kids who use LOL while on AIM. It's not even a real response. It has a meaning, but no one acknowledges it. In fact, I find it a little rude.
Here's an actual conversation I had with someone.
It only increased my hatred for this useless acronym:
"I think I broke my toe." "LOL that sux." "No, seriously, it's turning blue." "LMAO" "Why are you laughing at me?!" "Im not!" This proves that there are people out there who only use it when they can't think of anything helpful/important/intelligent to say. It doesn't make any sense at all.
A lot of the time, people don't even use
LOL when something is funny!
Haha seems more popular when someone actually laughs.
The whole thing sickens me.

I have never seen anyone use "lol" or "lmao" at something that you would actually laugh out loud at. I think that the more appropriate form of Webspeak would be <g> but it's harder to type and less fun to read. Thus, the new lol was born.

I've never said "LOL" to anyone, but I admit that I've used it in handwritten memos & letters
I think sometimes people use it when they really mean something like <G> (for 'grin') or <s> (for 'smile), but do not take the time to hunt for the proper emoticon.
I was another board recently where 'LOL' and other net-speak terms were forbidden. If you wanted to indicate that you'd laughed at something funny, you had to type: "Hahhahhaaaaahhhhaaaaa!"
Net-speak, in a way, brings to mind George Orwell's 'double-speak' from his book '1984,' where language was deliberately reduced down to its base form in order to limit thought. Maybe that's what net-speak is doing now. It's happening in our everyday speech, too, thanks to Hollywood. We're saying 'Y2K' rather than 'Year 2000,' etc. I heard someone the other day refer to '2006' as '2K6.' Notice all the American TV shows that use letters instead of a real title: "CSI," "NCIS," Land and Order SVU," etc - as if they couldn't think of a proper title for those shows and the letters sounded more 'edgy.'
Blah......

lmao = laughing my @$$ off.
I used to say "heh" most of the time. People said I was making fun of them with it... they were unoffended by lol.
I used to say hehe alot then... People asked me if I was Michael Jackson, or some other Jackson reference... was easier to stay on topic with lol.
haha requires either 2 hands, or a 4 key jump if 1 fingering it, lol requires 1 hand, and if 1 fingering the keys are next to each other... and 1 less character.
Pretty much anything being used popularly by anyone is subject to me disliking it though... and nothing can bring it out more than parrots.

I know I do. Mentally I read it as either "el oh el", "lawl", or sometimes "lawl oh el". The sad part is, it's actually entered my mental vocabulary (never said it in real life

) and I have a hard time explaining how I "pronounce" it.
