Also, I have had cats most of my life, and never once have I seen any distinctive expression on their faces. How in the world could you decipher what an "evil look" would appear like?
Do you have one cat or multiple cats? I never noticed how different cats could be until I ended up with three (I'd always had only one). Not just their personalities, but facial structure and expression. My two female cats are constantly antagonizing each other. Yesterday, Lily hissed at Ashy, who was just walking by. When Ashy walked back, she gave Lily this glare that was the cat equivalent of "Make my day, b***h." It was the funniest thing. I've seen them look blissful and almost smiling when in a sunbeam or being petted, glaring with eyes half closed when confronting each other, wide-eyed and amazed at whatever it is I'm doing, pleased with themselves, etc.
Most of those are subtle, but when a cat gets defensive and angry, you can certainly tell it apart from it being normal.
