Who thinks we have aliens or who thinks they are figments, or mistakes of not seeing something in the right light,, Etc...
Mookie
That's a difficult one.
The simple answer is we may never know for sure.

As to are we alone in the universe, I find that highly unlikely.
There has to be other lifeforms out there.
It would be downright stupid of us to think that of all the planets that are out there that we live on the only one to support life.
I don't know if they have ever been here, I know if I was some alien I would never come here as we as a species are too wrapped up in our own affairs to see the big picture, but that's just my opinion.
Jack Black
The Law of probabillity!, whether this applies to time and space i do not know. But it states that there would have to be.
Although it/they dont have to be more advanced that us as often dipicted. thumbsup.gif

Id like to believe
Lilly
Well, I agree with Mookie, although it's possible that we may know at some point. Eventually, we will get "out there" and explore the galaxy...will likely be our grandchildren doing this exploring, not us!

Then again, ET could be far more advanced than we imagine and eventually decide to pay us a visit in a very public manner. I wouldn't suggest holding your breath waiting for this one, though.
chaoszerg
To be honest i believe they might be out there but i think its wrong to send things out into space trying to make contact with them. If they do exsist alot of people think because they might be advanced that they will be friendly or curious. But they may could be the opposite and take a hostile view to us. I would rather try and keep the planet Earth or Timat as it was known as small as possible and try not draw attention to ourselves because we might just contact something that wont want to drop by for a cup of tea and crumpets.
Raptor
I don't believe aliens have ever been to Earth, but considering the size and age of the universe I think it would be unlikely if there weren't aliens somewhere. Than again, no one has any idea what the prerequisites of life are so it's extremely hard to say.

I couldn't agree more.

You are a century too late. We have been transmitting radio waves into space since Marconi's first trans-Atlantic transmission in 1901. Any aliens within 100 light years already know we are here.

It's amazing that most people think ufoligy or ufo's in general is alot of
bulls***, they simply don't exist, i believe it wen i see it, mabe this,
maybe that, bla, bla, bla.
Thats fine, but you have 2 keep an open mind. I've herd it said that the mind is like a parashute, to function properly you have 2 to open it.
My point is though & i'm not very technical at this guys so bare with me. That they all bagged that man before he discovered the Atom, simply because we could'nt see it,- but we know its there now.
Radio & Television waves could'nt be seen either,- but we now know they're there now, electromagnetic frequecies and so on.(phew,- that last one killed me.)
So what's to say 'those' guys, ain't cruising and partying on other and more complex frequencies which we hav'nt discovered,-yet.
Scientists have been telling us for years that 'there are' countless possibilities
in this field.
Anyway, just pass'n time away,... keep the subject going. yes.gif alien.gif no.gif

lol i know im just saying i think we should not be doing it. Because in the end we might just contact something then they come along and we say hi have a cuppa and sit down nice toi meet you and they say.........................GET DEAD!!! and kill us lol but hey they might be really nice guys and have a cuppa lol thumbsup.gif
Waspie_Dwarf
There was a huge difference in believing in atoms which we couldn't see and alien spaceships. There was a vast amount of evidence for atoms.

People seem to think that only believers have an open mind. This is not at all true. A believer that will not accept evidence that disagrees with them is just as closed minded as a non-believer that will not accept evidence that disagrees with them.

Just because I have not seen any evidence that convinces me in the existance of aliens visiting Earth does not mean that I have a closed mind.
Eternal Soul
Just open 2 the 'possibility' i think i was say'n.
Hav u seen a atom,- evidence yes but noone has actuly seen 1

There is not a lot we can do about it now, and I'm not sure many people would think it worth stopping all radio, TV, radar and any other transmissions which could escape the Earth just in case a malicious alien race finds us.

Fortunately most of mankind hasn't shared your views over the eons, otherwise we would have just hidden in a cave just in case there was a nasty beast outside. Instead we have spread and explored. That is why we, despite being a physically weak animal, are the dominante species on Earth.

Well i guess we will find out in the end if they ever do contact us. I was not on about all transmissions i was on about sending craft out there looking for them and trying to establish contact im not saying they are going to be bad im just saying they could be or could be ignoring us. But i think in the end if they were ignoring us that it would tick em off if we kept pestering them and then butt kicking time for us for being annoying. Also i think if they did come traveling over our military on earth would shoot first and say hello later.

Cool.- At least your'e a 'sceptic' & not a debunker. I'll just keep on keeping an 'open ' mind & who knows. thumbsup.gif
I'd keep on post'n u but my typing skills r a riot. Take care.

That depends on how you define sceptic and debunker.

I have no problem with beliefs where there is no evidence to back them up. That is faith and it is the basis of all relgious belief. This is why, even though I am an athiest, I would never dream of telling someone with a religious belief that they are wrong to believe.

Where I do have problems is where people have a belief that is so obviously against all the evidence. Anyone that has seen my postings on moon hoax theories would no doubt call me a debunker. However I would contend that anyone that holds a belief, despite the fact that it can be shown to be wrong is the one with the closed mind.

well according to quantum physics aliens are real if we beleive them to be real. So for me they are real.

You have a rather idosyncratic interpretation of quantum physics.
Guardsman Bass
Are we talking aliens, or UFOs? I had to do a report on UFOs once, and most of them were explainable phenomena.

As for aliens, considering that life arose in a small time period in the early, Hadean Period of Earth (an era when the Earth was still being heavily struck by asteroids and the like on a regular basis, making it very inimicable for life), I'd be much more surpised if there wasn't some type of life, and intelligent life out there.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again; I think the root of the answer to the Fermi Paradox is that the definition of 'intelligence' and 'society', particularly amongst vastly different intelligent species, can vary heavily. It's quite possible that the vast majority of intelligent species never develop high technology, or radio technology. Just think of how human civilization existed for more than five thousand years without developing it.

every time I read anything on quantum physics it gives me a headache, do we exist or not. What is really going on? I wish I understood it but none of it makes sense to me how can something go in and out of existance, and these scientists think we are crazy for beleiving in ufo's go figure.

Might I suggest Stephen Hawkings' A Brief History of Time . It will relieve your headache and give you a better understanding of Quantum Physics and Quantum mechanics. Geat book, lays things out in laymans terms. I thouroughly recomend it. yes.gif

i dont think were alone, just very lonely. im sure animal and plant and microbial life are in our galaxy, but if your talking bout civilizations, they probably dont exist in our galaxy. i think the best place to look for advanced civilizations would be m83, m81, andromeda, and the triangulum galaxy. remember, the most habitable galaxies are spiral galaxys, and theyre pretty rare thumbsup.gif

Why those ones? Why not Sombrero? Triple Virgo? and the hundreds of other spirals in the NGC catalog?
