Full Version: REPLY button glitch?

I've noticed the reply and quote buttons on threads, post exactly the same. Making it a real chore for lag time in loading pages wherein someones only contribution to a post is a few words and at the same time reposting an entire thread.

Is this a glitch in the buttons perhaps? Since the "Quote" option is for replying to a post in it's entirety, one would think the "Reply" button simply allows one to do so, without that. blush.gif

yeah i have noticed that also thats why i just click on the add reply button.

The add reply button is the tab that should be used most of the time. The 'reply' button next to the 'quote' button is to be used only when adding your comments to a specifically selected comment 'quote' given by another member. Its easy to tell who doesn't understand the purpose of those two tabs, its members who constantly post replies with the entire text of the previous message also included.

Actually frog, I respectfully disagree. Hitting the "Reply" button beside the "quote" (that is not hit),is what applies the entire text, mentioned above. Hitting the "quote" button beside that affords the same option, there is no difference there between them and as it appears some people don't care to not post an entire thread repeatedly, just to say a few words, I was thinking perhaps the "reply" button under a thread could be left to serve a blank screen when it's not used in conjunction with the "quote" button. One would think that's what the difference is between them as it is, until they use the function. Which is why some of us think it's a glitch.
*i.e. what's the purpose of "quote", when hitting "reply" affords the same option of posting the entire "quote" (thread).

If you want to reply to a specific post in a long thread, there are three choices for quoting the post you are responding to so that everyone knows to whom you are referring.

The first option is to click "add reply" and manually insert the post in QUOTE tags, this is useful if you don't want to quote the entire post. You can also use this option to break the post being referenced into several smaller quotes to address each point at a time.

The second option is to hit the "quote" button underneath the post(s) you want to quote. This allows you to quote multiple posts, by enabling the "quote" button underneath each post you want to quote in your response.

If you want to respond to and quote one post only, click "reply" underneath the post you want to respond to. By doing that, only that one post will be quoted.

Further to SaRuMaNs post, if we use the "quote" or "add reply" buttons, it is possible to edit the quoted text. This is useful if we replying to a long post, as you can trim the quote down to the specific points you are replying to.

There is nothing more frustrating than a post with a 2000 word quote and a 6 word reply.

EDIT: Oops, I see the Boss Man has already addressed this point.
