I decided to post this after reading Sasa’s Demonology 101. So if you like this post thank her for inspiring me. These are my personal beliefs, theories, and experiences, you don’t have to agree with every little thing I say to get the most out of this post. I have been studying the paranormal for 13 years, and I have decided to share some of what I believe and learned with you all.

First off let me start by asking the question What is a ghost? Most people would answer that a ghost is the spirit or soul of a dead person that is stuck in this world and hasn’t passed on to the afterlife. Well that conflicts with my religion, so here is what I believe (you don’t have to agree with this so calm down) For any of you that study black magick, which I think might only be a few, you will know that it is fueled by emotion, or at least satanic magick is. So I believe that when someone is dying, if they put out enough emotion, pain, sadness, envy, anything. And have enough will to live, that emotional energy could manifest itself as a physical, visible being, a ghost. Now, I have heard many people asking about the different types of ghosts, here are the kind I have heard of, and/or encountered.

Orbs- Usually show up in pictures, these are no threat at all, I have rarely heard of anyone seeing these with the naked eye, only on a photo or video. Most people have at least one orb in their home but don’t know it. Orbs don’t really do anything they are just a ball of energy floating around.

Shadow People- As the names suggests these spirits show themselves in the form of a shadow. Usually not dangerous, but very annoying. Tends to make noises at night and sometimes even shake people awake during their sleep. If you have these in your house and they are bothering you, so can most likely get rid of them by stating loudly and firmly that it is YOUR home and they need to find somewhere else to haunt. If they don’t leave keep stating that you are not frightened by them and they must leave.

Poltergeist- These spirits usually only make themselves known to one, maybe two people in the house, usually young children. I have never actually encountered one that would show itself, so I think that maybe they cannot make a physical form. They tend to hide objects, open doors, move chairs. Usually are not dangerous, but if angered can be very hazardous. I actually helped one of my friends get rid of one and while I was trying to speak with it he angered it by saying “Get the **** out of my house you ****ing piece of ****. After that doors started slamming, one if his child’s toys flew by my face and hit him in the stomach. Crazy stuff, so don’t anger these unless you want some trouble.

Phantoms- Usually seen as a man or women in a dark cape or gown. From what I experienced they tend to haunt old abandoned buildings. Like to be left alone, these are usually the things that tend to yell get out as soon as someone enters their home. I have only encountered one of these spirits and it was very violent, so if you can I would stay clear of Phantoms.

Demons- Whatever you wish to call them, these are the most powerful, violent, and even deadly of all spirits. I have never encountered one, and don’t really plan on looking for one. I have heard many stories from some of my ghost hunting buddies of these creatures. IN CASE OF A DEMON HAUNTING YOU OR YOUR HOME. First of all if you know its there, it has been there a long time. Demons will usually stalk their prey for a while learning about them and finding what they fear the most. Learning what they know about the supernatural. They will often make noises, move chairs, possibly disguise themselves as poltergeists so you wont fear as much, but after a wile they will show themselves to you as terrifying creatures, possibly even try to kill you. I heard a story of one demon so powerful if froze a mans door closed so he couldn’t get out, and then tried to kill his son, it ended up the man tried to get it exorcised and the demon killed the priest. It finally was banished by a group of Wiccans, but anyway back on topic, if you have a demon in your home i would suggest leaving the home and getting someone to try to exorcise it. YOU MUST NOT JUST LEAVE THE DEMON MUST BE EXORCISED! Most demons have a kind of magnetic or spiritual connection with the person they are haunting, if you just move to a new town, it will follow you.

Now that I have explained some of the types of ghosts (believe me there are a lot more than just those out there) I will give some advice to those of you who wish to be ghost hunters. Here is a list of equipment I suggest you bring with you on your hunt
First of all, to be a ghost hunter you don’t really need that much equipment, now if you have all of these things it would help an awful lot, but really you could contact ghosts just with a tape recorder.

EVP- stands for Electronic Voice Phenomenon, this is when you get a recording of a ghosts voice, all you really need for this is a tape recorder. Some people use white noise generators as they think that ghosts cannot talk unless there is a solid noise for them to draw form, but I don’t use them.

Cameras- digital cameras, Polaroid cameras, any camera will work. I always here people claiming only certain ones will , that is not true at all, a disposable camera can catch ghosts on it.

Flashlight-Well everyone shoudl know to bring one of these

Make sure you bring extra batteries, I cant tell you how many times I have forgot those and my batteries died and I was left in the dark. Some spirits feed off of energy so bring a lot of extras.


EMF meter- These detect electromagnetic field that most entities give off, They are of no use though unless you take a reading before searching for the spirits to use as a base level, then you look for any spikes in the reading throughout the investigation.


Video Cameras- I suggest if you are serious about ghost hunting to get two or three and to get some stands for them so you can set them up in different parts of the area you are going to search.

I don’t really think you need this but one of my buddies told me to put it just in case, Night vision goggles. If you are going to search lets say, a graveyard at night, I guess these would come in pretty handy
Also for any of you religious Christian or Catholics out there, I have heard of people bringing a small crucifix with them for protection.

Good places to start searching- I suggest going to an old cemetery or old abandoned house, there is usually something at those type of places. One thing I have to say though, never ever go ghost hunting alone. I cant stress that enough. Just in case something goes wrong you should always have someone there with you.

EDIT: To be a good ghost hunter
First of all, you have to be patient, you cant just go in and expect to find something on your first try, it takes some time. Also make yourself known to the spirits, when you arrive speak out loud that you are here and you want some ghosts to make contact with you, and if you go to a graveyard make sure you do not step on the graves, that is a very bad thing to do it would make the spirits very angry at you and you dont want that. You must be very respectful of everything, dont take anything from the site you visit, dont leave any trash, also dont be so loud and annoying as to wake up any people who live near by. Oh, and i almost forgot make sure if you are going to a graveyard you know what time the gates get locked, you dont wanna get stuck in there, or if you are just going to a local haunted place make sure you arent tresspassing, make sure you are allowed to be there.

Wow, great post. You've mentioned the sorts of spirits one could encounter while ghost hunting, but you haven't said anything about the people that'll be doing the ghost hunting. What kind of personalities make good ghost hunters? Also, you said demons are violent and stalk their victims for a while to learn what they fear, but what if the victim has no fear? At least, no fear the demon can't make use of? What then? Do they go stalk the next door neighbour?

chaostrom, everyone has at least one thing they fear, and if the demon is smart enough, which it usually is it will figure out how to make use of that fear, but in the rare occasion that they do fear nothing, im not sure, ig uess the demon would move on but ive never heard of that happening
