Full Version: A face in the mirror beside mine

Hi, This sounds kind of silly now that I’m writing it in the light of day, but here goes;

I have never looked in the mirrors at night, like a lot of people; last night I inadvertently looked into the mirror by looking into the reflection of a glass covered picture opposite the mirror.

I had drunk too much coffee and I was getting up to go to the bathroom every 15 minutes. My husband was already asleep, but I knew I was going to be awake for a while, so I sat up and read a book.

On the last visit to the toilet, not having yet gone to sleep, I thought it was okay to glance at reflections at least (not mirrors after dark, like a lot of people, I don’t know why...)

There’s a small mirror behind the toilet and a glass covered picture (of a black and white cartoon) opposite.

When I got up, I looked into the reflection and noticed a female face BESIDE mine. I glanced at it a few times, thinking it was me, reflecting back from the mirror (I know, that wouldn’t have worked, I would have seen the back of my head reflected, but I wasn’t thinking at the time)

I realized before I got to bed that it couldn’t have been a reflection and went back to check. Wish I didn’t. Freaked me out!

So, I've read a few reports in this forum, and I cant find anything about seeing someone else in the frame with them, besides seeing their own face morph... ( my face didn’t change)

Does anyone have any ideas? The color of the face was clearer than my own face and she looked cranky. I was apprehensive even when I thought it was my own face....

Thanks heaps!

WOW what an interesting story thumbsup.gif i'm much the same i HATE looking into mirrors full stop blush.gif i think i've been watching too many scary movies lol tongue.gif but i myself have had a similar exsperience which involved my bedroom mirror.

It was around 8 at night and i was sitting on my bed reading a book, now (this was when i was a teenager which was about 4-5 years ago) i had two single beds in my room and the large dress mirror in question was between them hanging on the wall. now when i was reading i got the feeling i was being watched by something so i continued to read after about ten minutes i decided to look up there in the mirror was a black shadow in the shape of a person. next thing you know i dive bombs down so it can't be seen! it scared me so much w00t.gif

ohh WELCOME TO UM!

My mother used to tell me that you should never look into a mirror in the dark, that you would see things you're not supposed to...I must admit, I spent many many hours in a dark room staring into a mirror..all to no avail.... hmm.gif

Velkomen til Unexplained Mysteries ...Heh heh.. as long as you don't see a color like no other color we're fine! But hmm.. I know my sisters hated their room because the entire wall was a mirror, they said it was just freaky what they saw.. But Me, I've never seen anything, although I saw a photograph of me look like an evil demented demon-clown... thing, at night.

The only thing I ever see when I look in the mirror is a reflection. It's not a tool of the devil, it's just a mirror.

That reminds me of the whole "Bloody Mary" story that my friends and I used to scare eachother with. Go into a dark room, look in the mirror, say Bloody Mary a few times, and poof she'll appear and kill you. I used to get talked into doing it all the time....all I got was locked in the bathroom. disgust.gif

This guy's a genius!

But yea, I never look into the mirror at night, too freaked out. I had a dream where a hooded shadow demon thing came out of a mirror and took my brother back with him through the mirror. I woke up drenched in sweat. Then I prayed, and I went back to sleep, and I dreamed that I went through the mirror and I ended up in a cat-walk in Hell. At the end of the cat-walk was a platform, where the Devil and his minions were (oddly enough) playing poker. I got my brother back and we came back through the mirror.

Yup, never look into a mirror at night. Haha

I haven't seen anything "solid" in mirrors with me. There was a night I was talking with an old friend of mine on the phone and I went to the bathroom to have a smoke (nearest ashtray). He had to go before I finished my smoke so I was just sort of looking in the mirror at the bathroom behind me, because I have a big bathroom and I never really look at it. I started to notice when I exhaled the smoke appeared to look like it hit something behind me. Very similar to when you see someone walk through a cloud of smoke, the smoke moves around it. It looked like the smoke just sort of changed it's natural direction for no apparent reason and just moved right around something standing behind me. So of course, I turn around, find nothing there, put out my cigarette, and went to bed a touch spooked. That's the only mirror experience I've had.

I happen to agree with this response. Of course, I've had several cups of coffee in a row before, and nothing bizarre has happened, but that was in the morning sun.

After reading every Bloody Mary story out there, I'm scared to death to be alone in a dark room with a mirror. I need my nightlight. blush.gif

Ohh man I hate mirrors, day or night unless i have someone next to me i wont stare into a mirror for long... is there a phobia for that?? Anyhow I remember one night I was young maybe 8 or 9 but I went to go to the bathroom, bluntly had to pee and i look in the mirror and I seen what i swear was a man in a trench coat with long hair, oddly enough i remember dressing like that with the same blank stare i remembered, but well i didn't have to reach the toilet crying.gif lucky my big ole pittbull was there to comfort me while I stood in shock and fright. I really didn't sleep in my room again because i had a mirror in there.... I wonder if i accualy seen myself in the mirror kinda like the game fables cover, or did i end up dressing like that? But thats my stupid personal experience. laugh.gif thumbsup.gif
I like your story tho.

That's a scary story.
I never experienced anything bad with mirrors...But as I type, there is a mirror to the right from my computer, and I allways feel uncomfortable when I'm in UM reading about ghosts and such...

Hmmm… So you all say you saw another person in the mirror and it wasn’t just a reflection? sad.gif I am inclined to believe all of you because I’ve had the same incident happen to me two years ago. My family and I moved to a new apartment and the next day while I was brushing teeth I saw an older man looking at me through the mirror standing next to me in the bathroom. When I looked to the side there was no one there and when I looked back at the mirror the man was gone. I was really freaked out and told my parents but they laughed at me. So I thought maybe this was all in my mind.

Then three days later while I was combing my hair in the mirror, I saw a little girl staring at me in the mirror. As soon as I saw her I ran to my room and hid under my bed sheets until my parents came from work. After that I had nightmares almost every night and had to go to family psychologist who said I was suffering from panic attacks. crying.gif Then one day after I came home, I saw my parents and my sister sitting in the main room waiting for me. There were also some other people who I never saw before sitting with them also. You will never guess who they were. Two of them were the old man and the little girl that I saw in the mirror!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! blink.gif

I stood there paralyzed without knowing what to think of it, and then the old man spoke:
“Hi, Michael (My name is Michael). My name is Brian and this is my wife Elizabeth and our granddaughter Nancy. I wanted to apologize to you personally for scaring you and probably scarring you for the rest of your life. We are your neighbors who live in the adjacent apartment next to yours. Your parents told us that you saw me and my grand daughter in the mirror.

Let me explain how this happened. After we moved into the apartment we decided to install a new mirror in our bathroom. Our mirror was located on the other side of the mirror in your bathroom, so they were right next to each other. Something in the way the mirror reflects objects got messed up and our mirror and your mirror became a two-way mirror where by looking in the mirror you were seeing your own reflection and looking directly into our bathroom looking at me and Nancy. We have already called the technician to fix this little problem. I’m sorry for giving you the scare like that, but you have to admit that this is all pretty funny.”

At which point both his family and mine laughed really hard at this, while I ran out screaming out of the door realizing what a fool I was for thinking about ghosts while all this time there was a perfectly reasonable natural explanation for the ghosts in the mirror. blush.gif

You're suggesting that your apartment and theirs was separated by nothing more than a mirror and that upon installation of their new mirror it had the properties of a two way mirror that overtook the opaque surface at the back of your mirror???

So if you smashed the mirrors you'd be staring straight into their bathroom?
If you could see yourself reflected in your mirror, how could you possibly see them as well?

I think I'd prefer paranormal explanations. Maybe you have the ability to see through solid matter?

As for the other posters, lucid dreaming is one possibility. Stimulants or not, the mind can conjure up visions or the appearance of visions in a darkened space, seeing faces from the contours of other things, possibly reflected in a mirror. Some of you may have seen an intruder who didn't think you were there!

Some people also have auditory hallucinations, convincing them that they hear a voice call their name. Not necessarily the first signs of schizophrenia, just the mind being creative, or paranormal perception of distant events?

I remember the same - as kids we tried the 'Bloody Mary' thing once during a slumber party - and something odd DID happen. In my friend's mother's bathroom, there's this giant mirror that covered one wall. We all crowded in there, turned the light off, stared into the mirror & said the Bloody Mary chant together (three or five times, I think, sort of like the 'Candyman' movie). A minute went by and I didn't see anything, at first. Then the girl beside me screamed that there was a face by the door. I (and the others) looked at it in the mirror. Above our heads and on the wall behind us was a pale white face with dark eyes and long dark hair. Has this person been actually standing there, they would hae been close to six feet tall. The resulting stampede of girls fleeing from the bathroom netted me a sprained wrist and another girl a bruise on her forehead. I did see the face plainly, but after years and years have gone by, I wonder if it was some form of group hypnosis and maybe we saw the face because we were 'expecting' to see one.

......?

If there was a face by the door, then why didn't you look at it directly? Why did you have to look at it through the mirror?

Wait a minute. blink.gif Was the face by the door or was it above your heads and on the wall? Those are two distinct locations, unless the door for some reason is located above your heads and on the wall.

To SinisterYouth087: next time you get locked in the bathroom while playing "Bloody Mary," just use the door above your head and on the wall to get out. thumbsup.gif

On a serious note, lol, you probably saw one of the girl's face in the mirror. Group expectations is a very powerful tool and since it is a giant mirror it can probably makes the objects in the mirror appear even more giant than the regular mirrors. This is why she LOOKED like she was six feet tall.

By the way this is my personal opinion and not fact. For some reason this small distinction seems to annoy one of the members here. yes.gif Oh, and also I have zero experience with giant mirrors, doors above my head and on the wall, and six feet girls. Although I wish had more experience with six feet girls. wub.gif

OMG, talk about paranoia, I've never heard of people who didn't look into mirrors at night because they were afraid they might see someone else....what diffrence does it make. Wheither you see it in the mirror or not, if its there, its there....might as well know whats checking you out while you pee at 2am....

ok, more serious, uhh... Shoot...I've never done the Bloody Mary thing... too scared... Some of my friends said they've done it, but you know, it's just one of those things where you say you did it just to be cool, so I dont think any of them actually did it.

My dad use to lock me in the bathroom in the dark when I was bad. I'd get soooo scared.. In fact, I think it traumatized me. (Stupid dad).

But with the lights on, and when I get reallly really really upset, I'll look straight into the mirror and invoke Death or the Devil to show himself. Nothing happens though... Haha...

I've done the Bloody Mary thing, You are supposed to do it in a full body mirror. I was mad at myself and decided I didn't care if she came and killed me. Then I did it and ran so I don't know if it worked or not.
