This story was taken from Castle of Spirits (www.castleofspirits.com) it was submitted by an individual from Dakshar , Japan.

For some reason this struck me as very ominous and strange. Lets here what you guys think. If this has already been discussed Im sorry, as nothing came up on a search of topics.

I dont know anything about asian culture regarding spirits and whatnot. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

"This story is not my own personal experience. It happened to my father when I was young, but knowing my father as the man he is, I can assure this is 100% true.

To give a little background on my family and I. I'm half American and half Chinese and I currently live in Japan. I was born in Taiwan and have spent my childhood moving from place to place around the world due to my father's job as an Anthropologist.

The first story takes place when we were living in Taiwan (again). I was about 8 years old and my father was conducting research on Chinese Shamans and how they claimed to translate the will of the gods. In spite of his academic field, my father is a very stern and down to earth man, always dismissing strange events as an over- active mind and, "too much TV".

Anyway, with that in mind, one night my parents had some friends over and as my bed time approached I reluctantly wished everyone goodnight and retired to my room. However, being the nosey brat I was, I turned on my desk lamp and sat with my ear to the wall to try to hear as much of their "adult talk" as possible.

Actually I could hear pretty well and I heard them debating about politics and all that boring stuff when suddenly everything went silent, as if they had all stopped and were listening to something. I heard whispering but I couldn't make out the words, only I remember very clearly sensing something very wrong with the atmosphere, like a veil of something evil.

After what seemed like 10 minutes of straining my ears, dying to hear what was going on but also scared that I might hear something I didn't want to, I at last heard my father speak up, in a very low tone, like when he's very serious or upset and tell this bone chilling tale.

One day my father got off early from work while I was still at school and came home to find my mom taking a nap in the their bedroom. As he occupied himself with his books he heard the first floor door bell ring several times and picked up the video interphone (we lived on the 8th floor of a 16 story apartment building at the time, one of those that in order to enter the lobby without the key, you have to ask someone to press a button from the inside to release the front door) as the blurred image slowly appeared on the phone screen, my dad could make out two human figures. I remember him saying he had a weird feeling about these people, especially because the shorter figure's head appeared to be constantly turning from side to side, although the image was blurred on the black and white screen. Anyway, whoever they were they had rung our door bell from outside on the first floor so my father asked them who they were many times but didn't get any reply. Finally he guessed that the phone was just not working, as many people around us complained that the intercom and video did little good other than look fancy and high tech, and pressed the button to release the lock on the first floor main door. Immediately the image on the video phone blurred and faded away and my father felt an immense heaviness and humidity fall upon him, the air turned sickly and a foul odor seemed to hang in the air. Then to his great dread, a soft tapping noise was heard directly outside our door, nearly making him jump. Being the practical man he is, he told himself it was nothing and opened the door to check, just in case.... only to find two humanoid figures with rotten looking bluish skin and sunken in cheekbones standing twitching at our door. It scared him out of his mind and he slammed and locked the door and awakened my mother. I remember him saying that it was like they were half rotten dead bodies somehow awakened and had come out from the earth for some reason no one knows.

The strange thing is it didn't take them 40 seconds to get to our door, and the elevator, if I recall correctly was always sooo slow in arriving. After the incident he fell ill for 2 weeks or so (I vaguely remember this) and refused to come out of his study most of the time.
I was further creeped out that night as I thought about how the abrupt silence could have been caused from some unexpected thing tapping at the door.

My father probably never intended me to know about this and probably still thinks I don't know, but all I can do is hope it never happens to me."

I read tons of these stories and most of the time, I think pffffff bollocks. There was something about this one that made me shiver. I think it was the blunt way in which it was delivered. No willy tactics or anything just theres the story and what happened.

I had a mate who grew up in malyasia ( I know i didnt spell that right) and he used to talk about the ghosts that lived in the forest surrounding his village. He was very matter of fact. All work and travel through the forest ceased at sundown because thats when it was the spirits time to wander their territory. They would also say a prayer to their ancestors when entering the forest as not to disturb them unintentionally. We arent talking about 100 yrs ago. My mate is my age (early 20's).

Do you think their culture is more open to these experiences because they live so easily with death? Like how the Greeks have such a zest for life because they allow themselves to be so in tune with death? I dont know sort of a collective conciousness?

I wish there were more detail as to what the blue people looked like.

I've read number after number of alien abduction cases that actually state 2 blue men are seen along with the typical grey aliens during an abduction. These blue aliens are usually refered to as "worker" aliens often wearing coats, or overalls. Sometimes they are seen as regular height and other times very short and stocky.

The rotting bodies sound a bit more of the ghostly genre though. Odd story.

I'm sure it is culture based because they seemed to be just accepting of the spirit world. They just don't seem to question it, you know? My friend had told me that their dead were buried in their gardens and such...I don't know how true that is but I know everything they do is ancestral based.

Hmm.. No this story doesn't sound very Asia-specific, in fact it is not a very Oriental style of dead. Most of my experiences with Japanese and Chinese ghosts is their lack of rationality, the typical "zombie" style of story just doesn't seem to be common there as a legend, more of an event. Unlike in America, where zombie-men sometimes are legends. (such as the Rotting Man of Oregon)

Which is part of the reason I kind of believe the story. If its really from a former resident of Taiwan is seems unlikely that such a tale would be culturally induce. Although this has less of a significance today... Communication is easy, and everyone can get an understand of anyone elses legends..

Umm.. No I don't think so. They are more likely too attribute something to a ghost. I don't hear anyone hear saying that because it was widely believed that the dead rose halloween night from Bald Mountain that such things happened? Its a cultural thing. The Celts attributed many strange occurences with Sidhe. The Germans explained people dissapearing near water to the Nixen. The Romans had their Larvae and Familiars. Every culture had, and has somethign they believe in. Its not neccisarily that there is a greater concentration of paranormal activity, its that they see more things as paranormal.

We have a zombie story? I've never heard of it. Although a bunch of the old hippies settled down near Eugene (including Ken Kesey who live out his days in Pleasant Hill, Oregon)

"the air turned sickly and a foul odor seemed to hang in the air."

I suggest taking showers more often and also eating less beans and other highly flatulent vegetables.

"only to find two humanoid figures with rotten looking bluish skin and sunken in cheekbones standing twitching at our door."

Could those two figures have been two homeless people? It does match the description: "sunken in cheekbones" from hunger, "rotten looking skin" from daily malnutrition and diseases, "bluish skin" from Argyria, a skin condition. (see below) Maybe somehow they drank water that gave them that.

"GREAT FALLS, Montana (AP) -- Montana's Libertarian candidate for Senate has turned blue from drinking a silver solution that he believed would protect him from disease.

Stan Jones,a 63-year-old business consultant and part-time college instructor, said he started taking colloidal silver in 1999 for fear that Y2K disruptions might lead to a shortage of antibiotics.

He made his own concoction by electrically charging a couple of silver wires in a glass of water.

His skin began turning blue-gray a year ago.

He does not take the supplement any longer, but the skin condition, called argyria, is permanent. The condition is generally not serious.

Odd. I've had quite a few experiences (as have some of my friends) with what could be described as "blue people". Though, they're not actually people. One of the most important aspects of the experiences seems to be trying to see them for what they are. Generally they're always seen as humans or 'humanoid,' and often times they come in frightening guises because of the viewer's psychological fear of the unknown.

Whether they're actually part of something outside the human psyche or very much a part of it, I don't know. But I do see things like this cropping up a lot now. I have many stories of my own. original.gif

I've never seen a blue person, but I don't think the aliens have rotten looking skin, so they must be undead things.

Well, my point was that, hypothetically, if you're seeing something very strange, it's frightening, One reaction may be that your brain turn it into something you find very terrifying. For many people, this could well be a cadaver. The same hypothesis applies to the fact people see "greys" during alleged "alien abductions." Greys, of course, have many "dead person" features. I really doubt this is a coincidence. It's also a psychological reaction that can happen in rather mundane situations -- a sort of hallucination.

I don't believe 100% on this story because that place doesn't even exist in Japan. Just by looking at the name(and if you know japanese and the way they form their words) you can realize that.

It looks like Dakshar was the original poster's name. If you look at his/her email, it makes it a bit clearer.
