Just a reminder to U.S. phone users: all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls. You will be charged for these calls! mad.gif

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time.

It blocks your number for five (5) years.

I got a call the other day from a woman with a heavy hispanic accent, and she said, "Hello, who is this?"

1. You DO NOT start phone conversations with "Who is this?" If you are actually trying to reach someone specific, you say, "Is this ____?"

2. It was on my mom's phone and only three people in the world know the number, none of which are hispanic.

You will be charged for these calls!

How can they do that If you don't consent to it? Also are the cell phone numbers being released involved in the NSA thing, or is this something else?

If you've ever seen those "free ring tones" for your cell phone advertisements, don't call them! You'll notice the advertisement says call from your cell in order to get the download, but when you call them you open yourself to; SPAM in your INet account, because you use that connect to download, and they sell your cell phone number on rental lists. (You can always tell companies not to "rent" your phone number out on any lists. Cell or land line numbers. Whether they actually comply is any one's guess.)

Be aware of this scam also. Never call back a long distance phone number you do not recognize. Especially if the Area Code seems a little hinky. It could cost you a fortune! (There are no laws limiting the rates per minute telephone servers can charge your line. I know someone who's daughter, a single mom, was "slammed" by a phone company. (See: Slamming) When she got her first phone bill after the event, they charged her $20. per minute long distance! user posted image )

The concept of getting charged for incoming calls is appalling. I mean, any prank caller can call you frequently just to bug you and you end up paying for it. It's very very unfair. Thankfully, we don't get charged for incoming calls here.

Everyone, before you panic, take a deep breath and read this:

Snopes.com

Don't rush to a decision just because you hear something on the internet. Always check things out first.

Isn’t capitalism great no.gif

I don’t listen to anything Snopes says, everything is false according to them LOL

I used to get these calls because companies sell numbers to other companies, and I used to have fun with them, as soon as they called I would start trying to sell them crappy things I had lying about the house until they hung up on me thumbsup.gif they soon stopped rolleyes.gif
