I've always wanted to tell someone about this other than my boyfriend; He of course thinks its silly and doesn't believe me, but I am telling you, this is what I saw.

Back when I was in highschool about 7 years ago, I was sitting outside on a lunch break. My school was situated behind a large rocky hill with quite a few trees and bushes which made a nice secluded area, so for times when I felt like being alone and contemplating, I would go there. Unfortunately, I had to be alone when this happened, so I don't have any witnesses to affirm what I had seen.

On this particular day I was sitting on the highest rock, overlooking the huge field beside the school. It was really sunny and a bit breezy and I was just sitting there thinking, looking down at my lap and eating my lunch. Just then, an insect landed on my arm or my leg (can't remember which, but I don't think it matters). It was about the size of a dragonfly, but didn't have that long body and thin transluscent wings that a dragonfly has. In fact, it was all an earthy brown, and not insect-like at all.

I looked closer and realized its "skin" looked more like an amphibian's skin! Its head was definately horse-shaped, and its wings, although very small, looked more like those of a bat! I really don't know what it was, but the closest thing I can tell you that it resembled was a dragon. A very small, brown dragon.

Just as soon as I had noticed all of these things, it flew away, as if it knew I had recognised its features. But I definately had enough time to have a good look at it. I would say it was on my arm or leg for at least 30 seconds. It was so bizarre and ever since I have been looking everywhere for accounts that are similar but have found absolutely none.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could have been?
Thanks original.gif

You let this "thing" sit on your arm or leg for 30 seconds? Weren't you concerned that it would bite you, that's usually my first thought when a small critter lands on me.

Well usually when strange bugs land on me I try not to move or give them a reason to bite or sting me. But that really wasn't on my mind when I was looking at this thing. I was trying to figure out what the hell it was!
*I should add that at first, like I said, I thought it was a dragonfly, which definately don't bite.

It's called acid.....well you asked. Seriously, what it may have "looked-like" and what it may have actually been are two entirely different things.....most likely it was just what you thought it was initially, Feebsicle...a dragonfly.

Like I said, at first, thinking it was a dragonfly I didn't really care at all, and didn't look directly at it. But then I took a closer look and it definately wasn't a dragonfly. I know what dragonflies look like and this definately wasn't one.

Canada...that explains much....if I was a cryptid, that's where I would make roots.

Sweet, I am going to be in that area by Saturday! Maybe I will attempt to catch one. thumbup.gif

I think what you saw was probably just a normal insect that you didn't know what it was so your memory added features you do know. For example, if you had never seen a northern pike or heard about it before and you caught one while fishing. You would probably describe it as a reptilic, minuature freshwater shark! ohmy.gif

That is why I take time to learn about animals, especially the ones in my area. thumbsup.gif

That is a tremendously valid point.. thumbsup.gif .

The creature you saw is similar to something my mother once saw as a child. She was climbing a tree when what she describes as a "flying sea horse" began to fly around her, making her dizzy, and she fell out of the tree. She said she'd never forget the sight. Since she was just a child when this happened nobody would believe her. When I read your story it made me think of my mother's sighting.

Doesn't explain the horse-like head, though. ^

Feebsicle, can you tell us what time it was you encountered this dragon-like cryptid? And exactly what spot on the rocks? I would like to disprove this, even though I am crazy about dragons. I want to disprove it, because I don't think dragons can be that small. Because if it was a dragon that small, it wouldn't have been able to fly in a light breeze, it would have been tossed and turned in the light breeze, because, it's body mass is too light. It needs to be 2 or 4 times biggr than that to conquer a light breeze.

thats cool i want one. maybe it was the heat and u went mad.......jokes........i have no idea what i was but i wont say its fake till more ppl give their views

Hmmm... I read somewhere before, I wish I could remember where, there was only one species that ever had wings not composed of limbs. This was a prehistoric lizard with specialized ribs that could fan out to help it glide from tree to tree. It was a very small lizard, under five inches. I do know that there were very small species of pteradon that were superficially dragon-like, but I think you would more likely mistake that for a bat and not a dragonfly.
Did this thing have a tail? Did its wings buzz or hum when it was flying? Were the wings folded in while it perched on you? Was the body and head stiff or mobile?
While a dragonfly and a lizard might look the same size their would be a considerable weight difference. From the bat-like description of the wings I would imagine that this creature weighed more than an flying insect?
mauricinho
interesting, you should try to draw it, or at least sketch it, so we could have a better idea.
