Prankster's balls of concrete
German police are hunting a 'prankster' who has been filling footballs with concrete.
The footballs have been left around Berlin with signs saying: "Can you kick it?"
Six of the concrete stuffed footballs have been found so far, all chained to fences.
A spokesman for the Berlin police said: "So far two young men, a 21-year-old and a 23-year-old, have been treated for injuries to their feet after kicking the footballs.
"We think they could have been left by someone who is sick of the World Cup and are investigating the matter as the balls seem to be deliberately designed to injure."

What the world needs to do, to avoid this soccer/football confusion, is to give american football a name distinguishable from football, i dunno.. call it ploppalongo or something .

I'm pretty sure this has been done before... I think I've heard of it.

Still, this is funny as hell. I mean, who really randomly looks at a ball on the street with a sign THEN actually kicks it?

Well they could, but since it was being called football in tudor times, theres no need to change the name of the game just because americans who cant even play the game think it should be so. Remember , your a peripheral nation where football is concerned, nobody listen to your peripheral opinion , because it doesnt matter.. no matter how much importance you americans regards yourselves with.

It seems American women won the Ladies world cup a few years ago-Blowing your theory to crap that we can't play the game...Just be happy the American men don't play soccer with gusto..We have better things to do...We'd whip your ass in that the same way we win at the Olympics (could anyone imagine Ray Lewis playing soccer??). I watched most of the WC games-at least I tried to before falling asleep just about every game. (Even in the middle of the friggin' morning!!)-I gave it my best shot and the conclusion?? It's as boring as a game can possibly be without being called 'Watching Paint Dry'...Now run along and play your dull little game..

I disagree, I play American Football and have since 1st grade. the only soccer i played was in gym. But i found the world cup very exciting.
The best athletes in America play football and basetball. You are all lucky they dont play your futbol because then the U.S. would be a power too. I'm not saying they'd dominate but they would contend for the cup every time.

So lessee you come out and attack me over the name of a game? Or is it because I'm American? Hhmmm? Jealousy is a horrible emotion isn't it?
Maybe you should check the forum rules before you start American bashing and name calling for no reason.

I'd have to say we should change the name of American football and change soccer to football. Or switch the names around.
Now all we have to do is switch to the metric system too, calculations would definitely be a lot easier.

I don't see what's so hard about just saying "American football"....

Americans are the only ones who call European football soccer. When I lived over in England I lived around a lot of Americans who were all overseas and we all just said "American football" or "European football". No big deal.
wcturnersr
Jul 14 2006, 08:15 PM
All right. Let's not change the subject into a p1ss1ing match. European's can name their balls what they want,... and we can name our balls what we want. So everyone keep your ball names to yourself.
And I do believe soccer (European football) was around before American football.
Back to the subject.
That must have been great. You know the suspect was probably standing somewhere close by just to see the damage.

Who cares what you call it. If you enjoy playing it cool. and for those that wonder where we got the name soccer
http://www.wordorigins.org/. I like American Football. Not exactly sure why we call it football seeing as kicking the ball is a small part of it considering the name. Fun to play and watch either way.

I can imagine them in the centre, doing their 'gusto' warm ups. The europeans/ south americans team they were to play would be transfixed by awe . Then this american team would follow on with the gusto and with the ray lewis in the team go fly about the pitch with said gusto kicking the goals in with random abandon till the south americans / europeans conceded with the cry 'we cannot compete with the gusto' .
