Apologies if this isn't the correct forum but i'm pretty desperate for some information!

I'm a journalist at a paper in Oxfordshire, UK, and last week i received 3 independent reports from people reporting a sighting they had late one night. All 3 described seeing 3 white/grey balls in the sky rotating on different axes. They described the balls as differing in size but none bigger than a football (soccer!).

I talked with the UK Met Office this morning and they told me they are Noctilucent clouds but i'm not satisfied with this conclusion. The pictures of noctilucent clouds that i have seen are not inkeeping with the independent descriptions i recieved from the witnesses.

I was basically wondering if anyone had any ideas of what they could be or could point me in a postive direction? This story is intriguing me and i can't help but feel that im being fobbed off.....

Many thanks for your help

Hi Hearno, This sounds interesting and to have 3 witnessess as well is good. I have a good eye and experience for spirit/ghost related things. Have you got any pics, I would gladly take a look for you...

Hi anvil!

I dont actually have any pics - although they felt compelled enough to phone the paper and claimed to have been "entranced for 20 minutes" none had the forsight to grab a camera!

The description i gave earlier is as good as i can give really - i know its not ideal but i'm just looking for a general jist of what went on.

Thanks for your help!

Try Ball Lightning. It may relate to those witness accounts.
I have heard there have been numerous accounts of ball lightning in the UK, Glastonbury maybe. Good luck

Hahah typical eh...no one thinks to grab a pic!

I'm not sure why the Met office thought of noctilucent clouds, seems a weird thing to say for the description you gave. If they ment any cloud I would have thought altocumulus clouds - http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afbeelding:Al...enticularis.jpg these are the ones that can look like little ufo's and if it was with thundry weather then it's possible the clouds could have been rotating slightly...

Do you know what the weather conditions were at the time of these sightings? If it was thundery then ball lightning could be a real possibilty. Ball lightning is rare and there's only like a handful of geniuan photos in the world of it. http://www.weatherstock.com/L07.jpg

Do you know the distance in which the people saw these balls in the sky, close by or high up or ? were they bright like lights, transparent or?

Otherwise, I'm not into the whole UFO thing really, don't know much about it, but someone here will bound to.
