I play all saxophones (mainly jazz)
I play snare and Drums (set)...(everything, latin beats, jazz beats, rock beats, pop beats...you name it... middle eastern...) I'm good at drums...I play for my church.

I play some Indian instruments too...

And Tablas (drum) and Miridangam (another kind of drum)...i'm pretty good...

I also play Organ and Sing too...

I play Electric Guitar and Bass. I played drums when I was younger. I sing and I record my own music, nothing fancy, just plug into my computer via microphone. I like to mess around with Synths and Keyboards. I play Industrial, Rock and Classical music.

I have a question. Have you ever used a Keyboard as backing drums? Are they any good?

If you mean using sequenced drum tracks, then yes I have. It depends on what KBD or module you're referring to.

I use the drum kits on my x5d (sorry Pandy, I know) which work ok for an impromptu live jam. Otherwise, I play and record my own drums for my more serious tracks.

And, I'd like to add that with all the musical talent on UM, we should consider putting a CD together, with an UM theme to it. thumbsup.gif

I play side drum (snare drum) in a pipe band if that counts.

Depends....but bassically no...Its not the same as a Grand....

My Shigeru Kawai sound beautiful....

Boff, since you already know snare, a drum set is the best choice....If you go with drums, I recommend getting a Standard set, not the Fusion set, because a floor tom is much better than a floating tom....Start out with a ride, hi-hats, a crash, and a crash/ride....

Your budget also is a big aspect...I have a Pearl set...Red with black rims....It was about $1200 with cymbals, kick, stands (snare, hi-hat, staright, 2 boom), and drums...
I added a splash, a china, a tambourine, and bell chimes plus their hardware for abotu another $150...

You can get decent sets at $500-$600 though...

It is as long as you have a KBD with enough keys. You might get by with 61 keys, but a 76 key KBD would be better for most classical music. thumbsup.gif

Edit: It also depends whether or not you want weighed action, like on an acoustic piano. The only KBDs I know that have that are 88 keys.

Hey FF!

If you have any pix of your kit, post them in the drummer's thread. I've been meaning to post mine, but I've been too busy remodeling my studio. wacko.gif

Ok, just wondering, where is the drummer's thread?

I'm an out of control drummer. I play prog rock/jazz fusion and have been told that I sound as if I am the spawn of Neil Peart, Herb Alexander and Ian Paice. There are reviews somewhere in my blog yes.gif I get alot of these comments after shows "omg, thats a girl" rolleyes.gif

As far as recording, everything is done on the computer using Cubase and other various hardware thumbsup.gif

as far as my kit, I play a custom baltimore live and a yamaha at home. I have a green tama set, but I never mess with it, I just don't like it laugh.gif

Wish i played a different instrument than Clarinet in Junior High. laugh.gif But goin' through Band, I learned the notes of the piano and worked on it, by playing and working with piano sheets online. I took the beginner's lessons for it, but it didn't do much. I'm probably lvl 6 or whatever. grin2.gif

Other times when I'm bored I make up my own songs on the piano. Been trying to hook it up to my comp to record the songs. No luck so far. Some of em' are great--imo.

Thanks for the thread idea MC.

Anybody here play any musical instruments or record your own songs? I'd like to know what styles you play, or what recording techniques you like to use.

I'll start this out. I record my own songs just for my own enjoyment. I play keyboards (analog and digital synths, and ROMplers), guitar (mostly electric, but some acoustic), drums, and bass. I write lyrics, but hate my singing voice.

I record on a digital 8 trac, and analog 4 trac, then transfer everything to cd.

No matter what music style I start out with, it always comes out sounding like jazz fusion, or progrock/soundtrack. blink.gif

I can't play any instruments, but I sing. I LOVE singing. It's such a release. Also I love the acoustic guitar (can't play myself) my dad and bro can play. Some of my fondess memories involve singing to my dads old songs, while he strummed on the guitar. Ah memories, memories!
