I have a hypothetical question... and I ask that nobody take me too seriously. I've been in this section of the forum before and know how bad it can get in here. Answer as bare bones as possible,

Example of Bare bones:

Question: If god were real, what would he look like?

Answer/explanation:He'd look like an old man because he's very old.

Thats obviously not my question, but you get the idea thumbsup.gif Answering like this will help us move along smoothly here. I am not looking for long rants and raves, or bible scripture. I am looking for human opinion and human responses.. not the direct word from any outside sources. If you're explanation is a certain text or scripture just say what text. "Blah blah blah because the bible said it.

I have a tendency, as I'm sure others do too, to skip over longggggg blocks of text and scripture. I am looking for a human to human conversation here, not the Oprah Winfry featuring Jesus and friends book club.

innocent.gif Thank you.

I think the government is far too wrapped up in themselves, to think about 'comforting' us. Just my opinion! original.gif

The first option, although I don't think of god in the traditional way. If you're talking about the abrahamic God, then I'd say option two.
exeller
God created us out of love. The universe has always been here.

I chose the second answer, god created by man, because it seems like the most logical explanation, especially when Occum's Razor is concerned.

By the way, you guys are posting exactly how I asked. Kudos to everyone who posted..a big shiny quarter for each of you thumbsup.gif grin2.gif

God was created in man's image to comfort him and provide a simple answer to all those awkward questions like "what's thunder?" "why do giraffes have long necks?" and "why do I always have to do whatever the priest tells me?" yes.gif
Celumnaz
Picked the all powerful God because it seems right to me.

Edit: Both choices are true to me, but my pick relates to my belief, not others.

man made god in mans own image. why? because man (mankind) worships himself, because we have big egos.

when organised religion walked in, they used 'god' to strike fear into the hearts of man. so that they would give the church, temples ect wealth to 'save their souls'. it was also used to secure power over authority (the king and such), and so it could become a super-power.

Man loves himself to much, and so worships his own image, and sketches his name into the stars.

I also believe man made God in his image, not just for power reasons but to connect on a familiar level. With that being said, it doesn't mean there isn't a god or ultimate source. I think it is all a guessing game and will continue to be. Its hard just to comprehend the vastness of the universe, much less some thing which created it. I see nothing wrong with someone having faith in a supreme being or thing, as long as you don't force me to believe in the same way.

In the beginning God created man in His image out of love. After that man created a god in his image to satisfy his own ego. thumbsup.gif

You know what my answer will be! It’s a spiritual image not a physical image. Now stop playing with your belly button, if you accidentally undo that you’ll fly around the room until you smash through the window. crying.gif

And I'm pretty sure we all laugh at someone that tells us how to post! w00t.gif At least we have so far. thumbsup.gif (I'm also sure many skip large blocks of text in bold red font as well!)

Given the scriptures you don't want to read, and the institutional faiths erected in the name of mythology, it's clear; man created god.

If god created man and heard their prayers," he ", as a wiser all knowing creator of all things, would have answered them by now.

Having been witness to how responsibly we exercise what believers claim is our 'free will' , so as to evolve ourselves into the human condition in the first place.
Instead of rewarding us for doing it all and right before we kick out of this life, being sincerely repentant of it, so as to gain the selfish reward of a heaven promised, after living as an embodied demon of selfishness all the while. Or, damning us to the hells as we die unrepentant. The hell of damnation which would not exist, had he not created it for our suffering after life. devil.gif

Personally, of all things created by man, I respect the tempter. (the devil) He was the only one that told the truth to the first woman and man, in the OT, and wasn't afraid of them eating from the tree of knowledge and thereby making a choice to gain an intellect that made them question the lie and the life created. thumbsup.gif
