Morrow Road- Legend has it that sometime back in the late 1800s, early 1900s a woman was walking along Morrow road with her baby in her arms during a snowstorm, the woman had the baby out of wed lock and tried to abandon it on the side of the road. She later changed her mind and decided to keep her baby, so she went back to the little bridge where she left it, only to discover it had vanished, but she could hear it crying. She searched but could not find it, and out of guilt, killed herself that night. Some say the bodies were never found. But many ppl have claimed to have seen the ghostly woman in a torn bloody nightgown roaming the old dirt road (now paved) searching for her baby, and manifest into a green light which is seen moving about the woods and sometimes comes onto the road and chases cars from the property. The legend was if you parked on the old bridge at midnight (no longer there) and honked your horn 3 times she would appear in front of your car believing you had her baby. Some reports claim the green light has came inside their car, engines have failed leaving ppl stranded out there, the woman banging on their windows screaming "where is my baby", and hearing the baby crying outside the car. I kno ppl who have experienced stuff on this road. here is a link to the film site http://www.morrowroad.com

Sounds exactly like the story of Denton road in Canton, MI. I suspect most states have bridges with similar legends! yes.gif

Sounds like "Cry Baby Bridge" in Ohio, and every other "blank blank" bridge all over the damn place.....Bunnyman Bridge.....*shakes his head* what the hell is the human fascination with bridges and the paranormal? Do you think it has anything to do with the idea of spirits being associated with water that seemed to be so prevalent in past "ghost stories".

You know I seem to remember reading that ghosts (or maybe it was vampires) couldn't cross bodies of water. Maybe that's where it comes in? huh.gif

Yes many ppl have seen her walking along the road at night. The scariest accounts a man was driving along the road one night and saw a woman that had her head in her hands crying, and stopped and asked if she was ok and when she looked up, she had no eyes and had blood all over her, then screamed "where is my baby" he rolled up his window and she ran up to the car and started banging on it and he took off, but the woman followed him, he later ended up in a psyche ward. Another story is some teens were out there at the bridge looking for the ghost and had a ouija board. it started going crazy and spelled out that one of them would die in 6 years. They hear screaming in the woods and got scared and decieded to levave and the car wouldnt start. exactly 6 years later on the same day one of them died in a car crash. one night some kids were pissed off that the ghost wasnt coming out, so they tried to light the bridge of fire, the flames shot up in a straight line over their heads and the woman came through the fire screaming and the fire shot back down to the ground and blew out. other ppl claim that after driving on the road when it was a dirt road, figer prints would be all over the car as if someone was tring to get in. and the road was always foggy. which gave it a genuinly hauntingly look. the lights were the most popular sighting though. i have seen them myself. they look like car headlights but disappear before you reach them. unsolved mysteries did a story about morrow road in the 90s. and the land is also said to hold a hexcraft from the indians and some areas contain burial grounds. there are now alot of houses on that road unlike before. and some ppl claim they are experincing activity in their houses.

So basically, it's a bunch of crap that cannot be proven or substantiated by anyone halfway credible...sounds pretty typical.

Anyway to add to the thread....

I think bridges are popular for hauntings because they tend to be significant land marks for various reasons...in the past open to attack in territorial wars, where water divides land it could used as a defence or seen as a weakness in boundry lines. Water is a natrual energy source for ghost or spirit activity, and I guess outside of wars and territorial disputes bridges are quite up there of places of death (sucide, murder, place of ease to deposit bodies)

Interesting story. Could be true. There seems to be a lot of bridge stories that deal with tragic endings and sorrow.

Starting sentences with: Legend has it, Some say, The legend was, Many people have claimed, etc. leaves a lot of room for a good ghost story. But zero credibility, unfortuneatly. Sounds like a good campfire story though!

yes but the haunted part of the road is paved. and the original bridge was on the paved part. it was torn down when they paved the road and widened it. the bridge that is there now on the dirt part isnt the actual bridge. the original one was red and rusty.

i like to be creative with my writing. and its true. you want credibility? has the existence of ghosts been completly proven, without a doubt? NO. the experiences and sightings I told are to the best of my knowledge true, noone has actually caught the ghost on tape, or at least i dont think so. and if someone has an experience on the road, how do they prove it, all they can do is tell their story. you can either believe them or not believe them. the lights I seen were real. theres no doubt about that. can I prove it? no. I wasnt rich enough to own a video camera back then. but im not gonna jump through hoops just to make someone believe. its their choice. theres been newspaper articles and the show was on unsolved mysteries. but they told pretty much the same thing i did.
Uh-Oh
There's a Crybaby Bridge in Maryland as well. The story goes that a woman was going through some rough time and was driving home through a storm. She was depressed and angry at life and to top it all off the baby wouldn't stop crying. She tried to quiet it again and again to no avail. So out of desperation, when she finally got to the bridge, she tossed the baby over the side. When she realized what she'd done, she jumped off the bridge as well and drowned. Now if you park your car on the bridge at night, you can hear both the baby and mother crying.

There seems to be so many stories like this. It makes you think they are all just urban legends.

The bridge that you're talking about though seems really scary. If I saw a woman with no eyes and blood all over her who started beating on my car, I'd probably go crazy too. She seems to be a very violent spirit. o.O

i live in algonac, about 4 miles away from morrow. the road has been paved and the bridge packed down. the most commen misconseption is, there is two bridges on the road, one still exsists on the dirt section. that is the wrong one! and many people get discouraged. my freinds and i have allways knowen of a spot where the unexplained happened, only later to find out that is is the very spot where the old bridge was. its about halfway down the paved spot where a new house now stand. my first expericane happend one night while walking down the road and stopping at the site when it was no more than a feild. we stopped and sat on some large rocks at the front of the property. after talking for about 5 minutes we began to hear sticks cracking as if someone was walking in the feild. staring into the feild we saw a faded glowing green blob that looked to be pacing left to right about 50 meters or so... we took off. a few months later we came back by car, parked in the same spot as before, it was around 3 a.m (the time that we usally get the best results) we had the windows rolled down, we were talking, joking, carrying on. our conversation broke as we listed and looked into the night. just off of the road, we heard the cry of a child... (no joke) and that was all we needed.... my freind started the car, peeled out and got off the road a.s.a.p. the next night, after not beliving what we had heard, we went back about the same time and did the same exact thing, just waited in scilence... about 2 minutes later we heard what was undoubtedly a women screaming in distress.. again starting the car and peeling off.... about a month went by before we came back, we were at a freinds house and told him the storys. he was excited to finally get to head out to the road. heading out to the spot, i was in the back seat on the passenger side, we parked at the construction site of the house with my side facing it. after five minutes or so we started seeing the green blob that i had previously seen..... it did close to the same thing. moved back and forth and back and forth. as we were staring wide eyed and jaws dropped, it slowley started moving towards us. as my freind started his car it started running towards us. as he put the car in drive and stepped on the gas pedal we were all shocked to see a green human figure about 10 feet outside of our windows. the figure got behind the car chased us for about 20 feet and dissappeared. (100% true, belive it or not) last night we went out on bike, we decided stupidly to go to the road, we sat in front of the house, and heard what sounded to be an owl at first.... the screams got some sort of inhuman as we decided to pedal as fast as we could. the screams chased us about a 1/4 mile down the road, and circled us as we rode. i used to be a skeptic, i used to doubt anything that went on. it is a commen story, but this one is true....

How long ago was this? Would've been nice if someone would have taken a disposable camera after the first or 2nd event. This site has taught me to always have a camera in the car. Sure wish I'd thought of this years ago.

I live right off Morrow Rd and got very excited - but I'm in Georgia. Lol, what a disappointment.

the blob that chased the car happend probably close to a year ago. and we did bring a video camera out there once. in the video you could see shadows moving, we thought it was the glare off of the windows and then i rememberd our windows were down, you really couldent see anything specific on it... one part it seemed an outline of a human, but im not too sure, its hard to say with a video camera. ill see if i can grab a disposable next time we go out

If I am ever in Michigan I will definitely check this road out----and bring my cameral with me! What a great story!

There seem to be two different strands to this story:

1. The Crybaby Bridge tale, with all its folkloric and Urban Legend aspects.

2. Visual sightings of a road ghost.

The likely falsity of Number One does not necessarily affect the possible validity of Number Two.

they always had problems and strange things happen when trying to develop the land, that's why there were never any houses until 10-12 years ago. When I was a kid everyone always said that Morrow road and the land was not right, "spooked". I think the Indians used it for rituals and burial,,,or both. And I work with a lady that lives on Morrow Rd that never believed in ghosts, what so ever, and since shes lived there has experienced lots of scary things and now believes in them, after seeing a black shadow of a person walking thru her house every night, and hearing crying from her bedroom window out in the woods. she told me the story about the owners of the new house that left right after it was done,,,too many things were going wrong with the house (things had to keep being fixed/re-built) along with paranormal stuff, obviously. there was another new house in the area (or maybe it was the same one?) while the owners wernt home a gas line was ripped open/ruptured and caused an explosion and part of the house had to be re-built. my co-workers neighbors have been having similar problems,,,lots of destruction to their house,,,,and cupboards open and slam shut while they are in bed.

wow, im suprised that all of that is true. the house with the gas line is down the road a ways. i've heard of the same indian burial ground storys, never knew if those were true either. i deffinatly belive the storys of the black shadow, my brothers house down in florida had one that walked around the house, not just at night, but during the day too... it drove the dog nuts!

I'm an amateur "ghosthunter"...as a hobby, I check out different reportedly "haunted" locations in Michigan with a few friends. Morrow Road has intrigued me, and I'm thinking of visiting. I am in the southwestern part of the state, and it would be an approximate two hour drive from where I am to Algonac, so before I do this, I would like to ask some questions aimed at people who live in the Morrow Road area.

First, what specific area of Morrow Road will I be looking for? Second, if I come out there (obviously late at night) with camera equipment, etc., are there residents who will be disturbed by our lights, etc.? I don't want to drive all the way out there only to feel like I can't use flashlights, camera flashes, etc. for fear of disturbing people.

Any information is appreciated! original.gif

yah theres a bride here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa that people say is haunted by the bus of kids who went off the side of the bridge due to driver error and all of them drowned. The legend is you go to that bridge and put your car into neutral and turn your engine off, and let your car sit there, eventually your car will begin to roll across the bridge and from side to side, they say you can see the childrens hand prints on the side. People have said they proved it's a hoax because the structure of the bridge, but i want to go check it out and powder the outside of the car with a powder that sticks and see if any hand prints turn up, if any turn up we've got something if not, it's the bridge structure.

I don't want to drive all the way out there only to feel like I can't use flashlights, camera flashes, etc. for fear of disturbing people.

Any information is appreciated! original.gif
