I don't think skeptics could have their own religion what would they call it?

If Skepticism is a religion...then who on earth do these skeptics pray to?

Laugh all you like, if one can pay homage to an invisible spirit that creates a talking snake to tempt talking hairless monkey's, the Order has just as much potential to catch on. tongue.gif w00t.gif

I believe the original poster has his terms mixed up, and not in the "skeptic-Christian" way many have mentioned.

The O.P. should have said debunker, instead of skeptic.

I'm a hard core skeptic myself, but I certainly couldn't care less what you believe. I realize the power of personal experience, I just don't accept it as scientific evidence.

Note that I say scientific evidence not scientific proof. There is no such thing as scientific proof.

As a skeptic, I don't think it's my job to bully or browbeat others into losing their faith or into altering their belief system or whatever. But I have in the past experienced exactly this sort of bullying from believers trying to change my worldview.

Yeah, I'm a skeptic, and I'm not afraid to give my take on a subject. But that doesn't make me right. And nobody should ever hesitate to state their opinon(s) on any subject based on some unfounded fear that I will ridicule them. Not that I won't. I just won't ridicule anybody on the basis of their belief. Once I explain IMO where they've got it wrong (if that's possible), they should accept that I have good reasons for maintaining a view that differs from theirs and understand that they are not going to change my view without scientific evidence.

That sounds simple enough, but oddly, it's the believers that are always trying to make the skeptics change their minds, and hardly ever is it the other way around.

It's like believing is so lonely that you are compelled to collect like-minded souls.

Of course, Christians are compelled by the Original Leader of their cult to act this way, but that doesn't excuse the UFO believers and the ESP fanatics.

However, the problem with using "debunker" is that debunkers generally go in trying to, well, debunk something. That is, they go in with the assumption that something is fake and they're trying to prove it is fake. Which is unscientific at best and can be very dangerous.

IF, I like the sound of the Order. Do we get business cards?

Wouldn't that be odd, if there were?!

Now for the really important question: Do we get to take religious holidays? Celebrate the birthdays/imprisonment dates of famous skeptics? So far I've gotten away with taking my cats' birthdays off, but I'm always up for an excuse not to work. wink2.gif

But of course there are holidays. After all, our welfare system proves working for a living is servile. And what does that prove?! wink2.gif tongue.gif So then holidays are subject to the individual members schedule, and debt to income ratio. Do the math, then get a calendar!

Of course a members primary holiday is one's birthday. After all, without "you", where would you be? Probably adrift in the great expanse of the cosmos, a mere flicker in the distance , and nicknamed "quark" because it's cute. But no, here you are, reading this and asking yourself; what the hell for!?
And that proves, your membership is due. (Mail the check, we know where you live. Ok, that's not true, but we have ways of making you talk...notice the "reply" button below, for proof of that one! )

One may choose from famous skeptics like those on this holey roster; Honor Roll of Skeptics. Or, they can Googlie till their hearts content and find someone else that dared to say; "Huh?!" in public and made an impression. tongue.gif
