Brisbane. Australia.
A few weeks ago, my daughter and I were playing netball at the local park. We noticed a bright object in the sky that looked like a star looks at night. It was around 3pm and the sky had a few clouds. This object was higher than the clouds. At first I thought it was a jet catching the sunlight, but it was moving too slow. About the same speed as the clouds. I put it down as being a weather balloon, my hubby says they don't use them any more? A jet did fly past but it seemed much lower than this object. in other words the said object was much higher. Was this a weather balloon???

You are the third person to mention this, recently. Another person said they saw this type of thing on July 4. I saw something just like this a week or so before then.
It was 2:00 p.m. for me. I stood in my yard and watched it not apparently move an inch, for 5 or 10 minutes. It was in the northeast sky, about midway up from the horizon. The sun was just behind me, starting its afternoon leg down from the zenith.
I am observant, and know quite well the glint of aircraft bodies in the sun. Those lasts no more than a couple of seconds. And this was no landing approach. Planes always land from the southeast, or the south. The may depart into the northeast, from our local airport, but they do not land from the northeast.
Anyway, something went flying in front of this object, and then it began to recede into the distance. It was very bright. I told my family is was really brighter than Venus.
