have you heard of this phenomenon? Or is it just a Norwegian thing? Don't know any English word for it, but you have probably felt it yourself; a person you are expecting to arrive, you hear him coming up the stairs, you open the door, but noone's there. A few minutes later he arrives...any thoughts?

I have felt that befor to, but lately when I'm upstairs at home playing on the comp or listening to music or movies. I keep hearing my phone ring downstairs so I turn down what ever i'm doing and listen and it's gone. I thought it was background noise from what I am watching but it's not, just wierd and annoying.

I thought that Vardøger was a variation of a doppelgänger, a ghostly visual manifestation of a person sometime before the person actually arrives?
I read a really interesting study some time ago about that in one of the more serious psychic study societies. (I'll try to find it...)
An average gentleman with job, wife & kids hat that happen on a regular basis. Usually when he was driving home from work, some 10 -20 minutes before he'd get home & he'd be thinking of what he'd do when he'd be home, etc, etc...
And once arrived home, he would have the wife & kids in astonishment, searing that they'd seen & heard him come home, take off the coat, walk upstairs to the bedroom, etc...The wife was usually miffed first (at the Vardøger) because he never answered on these occasions & seemed unresponsive & lost in thought...
Interesting, isn't it? IMO, it is some form of unvolontary Astral Porjection.
Bi-location is another interesting phenomenon. I remeber this story about a French school mistress (Must have been in the 60's or thereabouts) the pupils swore that she could be in two places at once. They saw her simultaneously sit in front of the class & take walks in the school garden, or sit on a bench and read. I think she actually confessed to being able to do this, without knowing why, and that she projected an image of herself into the classroom to keep the kids put & then used the time to pursue other interests. The school sacked her after that, I believe...typical.

Happens to me a good deal, with phones ringing, doors knocking, etc. My sisters think the house is haunted due to this, but your explanation seems a bit clearer. I think that it could be a form of bi-location -- when you actually see hte person. Just hearing things would be more of growing accustomed to routines than anything else, in my opinion; coming to expect the noises.

Huh, wow. Never heard of it before, nor have I experienced it. I've thought that I heard a car pull up when I've been expecting someone before, but that's about as close as it's ever gotten.
Weird indeed. O.o

YES, YES, YES!!! I thought I was the only one who's ever experienced this. Started several years ago. I lived on a 40 acre tract of land with a gravel driveway. I would be sitting by the door, which was opened and the screen door closed, and I would hear a car crunching over the gravel, stop, the motor turn off, then, nothing. The first time I heard this, which was about 10 mins. before my husband was due home from work, I sat there and wondered why he didn't get out of the car, got up and looked out the door, and no one was there. The reason I mentioned the 40 acres is because our house was pretty secluded and the noise not due to a neighbor. Well, 10 mins. later, I hear the exact same sound, only this time its really him. This happened quite frequently and I'd always tell him, "Well, you arrived 10 minutes ago." I live in a different house now, but the same thing happens from time to time. Pretty interesting. Glad you posted this.

Intresting, never experianced this but have had a 'funny feeling' somone is going to phone just before the phone rings on occasion and have seen/heard about dogs apearing sense thier owners coming home before they do, mine will sit in the window, which is the only time he ever does.
Cheers Jester
