Bible Teaser 3

Who Was He???

There was a man who went one day
On top a Joppa house to pray,
And while he waited for his meat
He dreamed he saw a great big sheet
Let down from heaven, and inside
Fowls and creeping things did ride,
The one who prayed was told to eat,
For God had cleansed this "common" meat.
Who was he? (Acts 10)

Bible Teaser 4

The names of sixteen books of the English Bible are hidden in the text of the following paragraph. Can you find all sixteen of them?

I once made a remark about the hidden books of the Bible. It was a lulu. Kept people looking so hard for facts and for others it was a revelation. Some were in a jam, especially since the names of the books were not capitalized. But the truth finally struck home to numbers of readers. To others, it was a real job. We want it to be a most fascinating few moments for you. Yes, there will be some really easy ones to spot. Others may require judges to help them. I will quickly admit it usually takes a minister to find one of them, and there will be loud lamentations when it is found. One little lady says she brews a cup of tea, so she can concentrate better. See how well you can compete. Relax now for there are really sixteen names of books of the Bible in this story.

yep, a few times. and an unabridged dictionary, a medical dictionary, 2 sets of encyclopedias... mostly between the ages of around 10 and 14 when I read them though.

were we supposed to post the answers? there's a few I'd have to look up for sure tongue.gif

I love this thread being in this forum especially. All the apologists that jump into any thread related to questioning god or christianity, and yet when asked to take a quiz as to how well they know that which they defend so vehemently elsewhere, not one has a word to say!
And it cant be because they don't trust the author that posted the thread. Since they certainly have no problem arguing with her in other religious topics!

BM, you have your answer! "How well...." Not at all! no.gif (Btw, no I didn't bounce to the site for the answers. That would be....wrong. Bible teaser 1

1. - How many books are there in the whole Bible? 66 (not including Enoch, Maccabbees etc)

2. - How many books are there in the Old Testament? 39 (not including those above)

3. - How many books are there in the New Testament? 27

4. - In which Testament would you look for the Sermon on the Mount? The New Testament - Matthew 5-7. There's another sermon very similar in Luke, on the Plains instead. Obviously Jesus was very fond of this particular sermon, and he'd repeat it. And why not, it's a great sermon.

5. - In which Testament would you look for the story of Jonah and the great fish? In the Old Testament, of course. Hey, I'm glad you didn't say "whale".

6. - How many of the New Testament books are called the Gospels? only 4 - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Unless we're talking of the Synoptic gospels, in which case there's only three, or if we're talking about the Gnostic gospels, which.... I don't exactly know how many of them there are.

7. - In what book of the Bible would you read about Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego? Daniel. They're Daniel's friends in the Palace.

8. - What is the first book in the Bible? Genesis. Some might say Enoch though, depending on how they view that particular book.

9. - What is the last book in the Bible? Revelation.

10. - If you opened the Bible in the middle, what book would you find? I vaguely remember hearing somewhere that it's Isaiah.

Zannies bonus questions ...

Bible teaser 2

1. - Cain and Abel (Genesis 4, especially v.8) - start with the easy one - brothers.

2. - Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 21, especially v.3) - another easy one - Father and son.

3. - Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38,39) - Presumably Mary, the mother of Jesus, not Mary Magdalene, so I'll say sisters. If it's Mary Magdalene, some would say no relation, others would say Aunty in Law.

4. - Aquila and Priscilla (Acts 18:2) - ok, you got me on that one.

5. - Moses and Aaron (Exodus 4:14) - Brothers, again.

6. - Eunice and Lois (2 Timothy 1:5) - Isn't that Lois and Clark laugh.gif no idea, seriously.

7. - Peter and Andrew (Matthew 4:18) - They were apostles and brothers - Simon (also called Peter) and Andrew.

8. - Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5) - Husband and wife, though i could be wrong on that.

9. - Joseph and Benjamin (Genesis 42:3,4) - Father and son.

10. - David and Absalom (2 Samuel 18:33) - It's tickling my memory, but I can't recall quite at this point.

11. - (joke bonus question) PA & Zannie lol? tongue.gif - mortal enemies, grrrrr w00t.gif

Mark
Luke
Kings (does that count as two, since there's actually 1 Kings and 2 Kings?)
Acts
Revelation
James
Numbers
Job
Amos
Esther
Judges
Lamentations
Peter
Hebrews

So that's 14 (or 15 if you include 1 and 2 Kings). Someone else can get the last one (or two) if they're feeling up to it.

How Many Do You Know?

1. - Do you know the city in which Jesus lived as a boy? (Luke 2:39-40) - Nazareth?

2. - Do you know who is called the "Weeping Prophet"? - Not off the top of my head.

3. - Do you know the name of the first Christian martyr? (Acts 7:54-60) - One could claim Jesus, but I'm going to stick with James, who was stoned to death by Saul before his conversion and became Paul.

4. - Do you know where the ravens fed Elijah? (1 Kings 17:5-6) - nope.

5. - Do you know the names of the two people who were never born? Never born? Do you mean never died???

6. - Do you know the names of the two people who never died? Ah, next question explains that one blush.gif Enoch and Elijah.

7. - Do you know in which book of the Bible the name of God is not found? - Esther

8. - Do you know who told Nicodemus, "Ye must be born again"? (John 3) - I'll take a wild stab and guess Jesus.

9. - Do you know who turned into a pillar of salt when she looked back? (Genesis 19:15, 26) - Lot

10. - Do you know what is "quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword"? (Hebrews 4:12) - the word of God.

You really don't like me, do you. Why the " sleepy.gif " remark? One can't be expected to know everything. I'd set myself the challenge of not referring to the Bible at any time. All those answers were off the top of my head. And here I was thinking this was supposed to be a light-hearted thread. No wonder no other Christian had posted here before myself, if their every answer was going to be scrutinized with any gap in their knowledge yawned at by those wishing to take a free potshot.

Irish
God is fully able to protect His word from the evil hearts of some man whether they belong to a church or not. And only He truly knows ones heart.
The words of the scriptures are a great puzzle that was dismantled to protect it from corruption, only the individual who truly asks with an earnest desire to know the truth will be given the keys to understanding.
Many can quote the Bible word for word (including the devil himself) but few understand its meaning.
There are two keys to understanding, one is in the heart of man and the other is held by the Holy Spirit of God. The first key is attained by free will and a desire to know the truth (the heart). The Holy Spirit holds the second key to protect it from corruption by the deceiver until they are delivered to the born again soul shortly after acceptance of redemption.
Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, [and] to turn [them] from darkness to light, and [from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

This is the mystery of Christianity. Much to the chagrin of those
. that choose to not believe. Is that you must first come to Christ by faith alone and then the truth is revealed to the individual with no doubts.
The facts are revealed within our hearts, but we are only able to show others with words and deeds.

All the best

The one who prayed was told to eat,
For God had cleansed this "common" meat.
Who was he? (Acts 10)

I'm going to say Paul. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong though.

Mark

What? I said I read the Bible to find its flaws...

Yeah, it's a good idea to do so. You should know the good and bad things. So you don't think that a certain religion is perfect.

Bible Teaser 3

Who Was He???

There was a man who went one day
On top a Joppa house to pray,
And while he waited for his meat
He dreamed he saw a great big sheet
Let down from heaven, and inside
Fowls and creeping things did ride,
The one who prayed was told to eat,
For God had cleansed this "common" meat.
Who was he? (Acts 10)

Peter
