NEW YORK (July 25) - The PBS Kids Sprout network has fired the host of "The Good Night Show" after learning she had appeared in videos called "Technical Virgin."

The host, Melanie Martinez, had alerted network officials about one of the videos late last week and she was immediately taken off the air.

"PBS Kids Sprout has determined that the dialogue in this video is inappropriate for her role as a preschool program host and may undermine her character's credibility with our audience," said Sandy Wax, network president.

Airing for three hours each evening, "The Good Night Show" airs soothing stories and cartoons designed to get an audience of 2-to-5-year-olds ready for bed. Each night, Martinez guides a puppet character into dreamland. Martinez is a stage actress and mother of a toddler.

In the two "Technical Virgin" videos - made before she landed the children's show job - she spoofs PSAs about how young women can keep their virginity.

PBS Kids Sprout airs children's programming 24 hours a day and is seen in about 20 million of the nation's 110 million television homes. "The Good Night Show" has been temporarily replaced by cartoons while a search is conducted for a new host.

mad.gif This angers me that they would remove her for appearing in videos for a good cause. Melanie has showed on my tv screen for as long as I can remember. My daughter absolutely fell in love with her and I love how she interacts with the kids.
I mean, isn't she promoting abstinence in the Virgin videos? And wouldn't that be targeting girls of puberty age and up and not at little kids?? So why would they think she wouldn't be a good role model towards children? I don't care if she screws around in her life-these kids don't know this and I'm sure millions of children are gonna miss her the same as my child will.

personally I think it was a dumb move too by PBS. Then again, I don't have a very high view of PBS to begin with...

very unfortunate for her, and the kids who really have no clue nor care about what PBS is fussing about.

where can I find the vid?

Don't know. You could try typing the title 'Technical Virgin' into a search engine but I don't know if anything will come up.
SecondHeartbeat
i think a lot or porno would pop up if you searched it

I once said the word "boobie" when I was about ten. I will never be able to work on PBS.
This is just plain silly. It's not like the woman suddenly broke into off-color remarks in the middle of Good Night Show.

Besides...she's got a great first name original.gif

I say boobie all the time. It is one of my favorite words. I'll never work for public tv either. *sigh*

The article you quoted states that the objectionable videos 'spoofed' Public Service Announcements. From that I doubt that the videos were for a good cause. It seems like they would be making fun of the videos that do promote abstinence.

But anyway, does PBS think that their target audience of little kids will also be watching the Techinal Virgin videos? And become confused about the host of the PBS show? How silly can one get! rolleyes.gif

Technical Virgin sounds like a porn movie with computer techies or somethin, eeewwwww, imagine if they were doin it on a computer,so many gross things i could say

Just to make sure I can never work on PBS: Boobies.
I'd just like to say that again: Boobies.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Ok, now on topic.
I'm with Cel, this is no surprise out of PBS. Have no love for them, other than the British sitcoms, anyway.
Maybe the lady was trying to, in her mind, atone for the earlier videos she made by doing something for kids.
Don't bother to ask her for her motivation, just fire her. rolleyes.gif
zukie&jim
yea--pbs will likely replace her with pe-we herman--lol
Never_Hit_Nirvana
LMAO. Do a search on youtube.com for Melanie Martinez and techincal Virgin.

Technical Virgin was a series of joke videos spoofing abstinence.....basically telling teens to have anal sex as an alternative. tongue.gif

What's so great about being a virgin anyway? I'm a virgin and I'd rather not be. People who promote abstinence are weird. mellow.gif
If it has something to do with STD's, can't you get them from anal just as easily?

But life as a eunuch...days spent watching "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy", nights spent redecorating the living room while drinking Sangria and listening to your Kenny G / Yanni/ Frankie Goes to Hollywood/ Wham!/ Show Tunes mix.
<shudders>
No amount of money worth that! laugh.gif

Yes, which is why I'll get as much as possible, times three. sad.gif
In all seriousness though, the thought of anal disgusts me, even with a partner of the opposite sex.

Edit:
P.S. I'll stop talking about it now. Please don't delete my posts. T.T

Yeah, we had better behave. Or the thread might be closed and all us forced to work at PBS....just to be immediately fired!
