I just bought Diablo II and I installed it and everything by the book, but every time I try to run the game it shows up this memory error. I tried installing it again but it still does it.

My copy of diablo II wont install on some computers and on some it also gives an error like that. Its probably a hardware thing but it looks like you're running XP - that might be the problem, have you tried making it win95 compatible?

I'd make sure you have updated video drivers and the newest direct x just to cover what causes most basic game errors. Also download ALL of the game patches from the diablo website... there may be some bugs and whatnot with your video card or sound or something that just isn't jiving without the patches. Does your computer meet the recommended system specs or just the minimum? The second error could be a virtual memory or Ram issue but if it's isolated to just diablo 2 it could quite possibly be a game specific problem. If all else fails I would post about it at Diablo 2 tech support forums or Open Tech's Diablo 2 area. If it pops up at other times while you're running memory intensive applications you might want to give us some more info about your system, ram, processor speed, etc.

Can I have a link to these patches and do they cost anything?

Blizzard. Go to Diablo 2 then pick patches from the menu... I can't direct link from work since I can't get there....

They don't cost anything and you must have them updated to play. Did you get the expansion as well, Lord of Destruction?

No only the game. Does the expansion pack have the same trouble?

Edit: Do you have to pay to get an account on fileplanet? I saw something about credit cards on the terms and conditions.

2 things:
1. your diablo might be pirated or fake
2. your computer has the problem
