Hey, what about some atmospheric amoeba? I understand that our sky is filled by all kinds of microbacterial organism right?
I've never heard of any microbes inhabiting the skies. Perhaps some stray microbes could be raised to the sky then caught in rain clouds, but none are intentionally there. Kind of impossible for a microbe to fight against the power of gravity.

Do they have tentacles like a jellyfish or are they more like an ameboa (is this the right spelling?)
Anyway, in the late 1800's there were hundreds of sightings of a giant rod in Crawdsfordville. Maybe it was another aerial monster?

What advantage does the colour of the chloroplast offer? The only thing I can think of that would make a difference is the albedo, but than black chloroplasts would be favoured.

Chlorophylls a and b, carotenes and xanthophylls absorb all of the visible light spectrum except green, as it doesn't produce sufficient energy. That's why they would be green.

If there were some weird air type anomaly that was jellyfish like, I seriously doubt it would be anything like a true jellyfish and more like some type of weather phenomenon.

Aug 3 2006, 05:06 PM
H. G. Wells wrote a story about this sort of thing, but I can't remember what it's called. It's believed that Jovians (aliens on Jupiter) would be built something like a big flying jellyfish, and feed on radioactive energy.
If there are creatures in the stupidly insane depths of the oceans, why shouldn't there be creatures in the stupidly insane heights of the atmosphere. They could photsynthesise and breathe whatever sorts of gas there are up there.
