I just purchased a laptop by Apple today and whenever I try to put in a CD (be it working software, or even music cd's) the laptop makes a few weird noises and after about 20 seconds shoots the CD back out. I really need to install some programs for various reasons and I figured this is the place to ask for help (since their website mentioned nothing of any use rolleyes.gif ) Any suggestions are welcome, especially by people with Apple computers. thumbsup.gif

you have two choices.

A. Return it and swear at the wierd looking clerk.

B. Headbutt your computer into fifteen pieces.

whatever works for ya

Hmm, are you sure there are no other alternatives?

Rambo, I'd love to help but I'm not the Mac wiz lol. Well I'm sure someone else will help you out!

Hi Rambo

I am a mac user, I have a Powerbook G4. What you are describing shouldn't happen and I have never had a problem like that, or anyone else that I know who uses macs. I think its probably something to do with the loading mechanism when you insert the disk. My advice to you would be take it back to the store and get a new one.

P.s What type of software are you trying to install? I am sure you know already but it needs to be suitable for Mac use and for your mac program i.e Tiger, Panther etc.

I would agree with Lottie on this one. It has been a few years since I've worked on Macs but as long as you are trying mac supported discs, the computer shouldn't be behaving this way. Possibly software but more likely you have a bunk CD player in it. I forget the statistics but a very high number of electronic equipment is broken right out of the box, you're not alone no.gif

My husband has a brand new set of $60 speakers to return to the store, I think your post made him feel a little better rofl.gif

smash it over the clerks head

my advice would be take it back. It shouldn't do that. What kinda CD is it? Music? If musci is it burned or a regular CD. If software is it compatible with your computer? These are things that should be known.

Assuming that you are trying to install proper Mac-X or whatever flavor of Mac you have software...One question..Is the CD player recognizing any disks of any sort? Try this: Take an (at least 3) off-the-shelf (factory burn) music CD's (anything but Britany Spears-she will damage your computer) yes.gif and stick it in. If it doesn't read any of them, it's a hardware problem. Take it back..
