Full Version: Pretend to be a Psychic!

I've heard many skeptics mention Cold Reading as a means of faking psychic ability.

I have recieved a reading (not a cold reading) over the internet which was considerably accurate. The reading mentioned things like my choice in name of pets, food likes, existence of relatives and some description of them, etc. While not terribly specific, neither were most details so general as to apply to everyone. Taken as a whole, i doubt they'd be a decent match for any significant part of the human population. In other words, I don't hink cold reading can get anything near the same degree of accuracy. I think the cold reading idea is BS.

So, I was wondering if anyone here would like to test it out.
Say, give me or another person here a good cold reading.

For example, write "here's a cold reading for _________" followed by the reading.

The reading needn't be perfect, but try to go for something that looks as if it is very accurate. (even if it is very general).
Basically, I'd like people to compare it to the style of readings they've gotten or see how well it applies to other people.

At the very least, I think it would be amusing and educational.

(If you want to give an actual reading and not a cold reading please mention this, but I'm really more interested in Cold Readings)

Just thought I'd bring up an intersting link to a thread just like this. Click here.

I also do cold readings in the UM chat, however many people take my jokes too seriously and think I'm psychic. If you'd like to get a cold reading from me, just head on over to the chat and ask. I won't do anything in this thread because I've been inactive on the forums lately and don't want to dissapoint anyone.

I know most people probably say this, but I'll say it anyway. I doubt a psychic can trick me into believing they're a psychic. I'd note down all the misses the get, and look for all the little tricky questions and statements.

Well, I'm still waiting for the chat page to load. (It doesn't seem to be going anywhere)

That's a nice cold reading on your link.
It's not a great fit for me though, especially about feeling my aspirations to be unrealistic and hiding behind false barriers part.
I suppose it could apply to a lot of people but it's certainly not as impressive as someone telling me I have a brother, love peanut butter, Kibbles is actually the name of my cat, mentoning an old song my mom loved, and describing my great grandfather.

Note, this wasn't through an ongoing conversation. The reader pretty much dumped the whole of her reading on me (via the net) in one go and asked how well it fit.

It wasn't the most detailed of readings but there was only one off fact.
I don't think cold reading could replicate that.

Could someone try the same?
