I'm sure there's a thread for Dead Rising around here somewhere, but as a playable demo is out now I thought it'd be better to start a new thread where the gameplay can actually be discussed without wading through loads of old news. Feel free to merge it if you think any differently, mods.

These are just some of my first impressions, I'll edit as I play with it a bit more.

When I started playing I was amazed at the number of zombies that were roaming around. You start of on the ground floor of a mall surrounded by literally hundreds of undead monsters, if not a thousand, which all stand around confusedly some of them still trying to do normal things like push around shopping carts (which created a similar atmosphere to that of the original Dawn of the Dead). The number of zombies on screen didn't have any affect on the framerate at all either, and all of the animations were extremely smooth however they are quite repetitive. I doubt that will be much of an issue though, there's an unbelievable amount of things which can be used as weapons, you can pretty much pick up anything at all. The most impressive I found is the shopping cart, which you can drive around like a battering ram and mow down dozens of zombies. Completely awesome.

So back to the gameplay, I started hacking away at the hordes of zombies, killing 150+ before I started exploring. It was just as fun killing the last one as it was killing the first. (so hopefully it won't start to feel like a chore killing so many zombies, that's something I was worried about). Like I said before there's an astounding amount of things which can be picked up and used as weapons, I spent ages just looting shops and testing out the different weapons and then began to change my clothes, when I got ambushed from behind and was completely raped. I quickly reloaded the demo and decided to skip the killing and to get on with the mission, then it only took around 10 seconds before I got side tracked and started looting a toy shop where I put on a horse mask and began hitting zombies with a huge teddy bear which does absolutely no damage at all, hilarious to watch though.

I've gone on for way longer than I wanted to, but yeah, this game is amazing. The graphics, animation, controls and gameplay are all great, you definetely need to play this game.

when does it come out?

For the US it comes out on 22nd August, not sure about other countries.

The 22nd? I don't think so; it says it's coming out this Tuesday over here. I guess we'll see. I want to play this game badly though. Thankfully, my friend who has a 360 wants the game as badly as I do, so I'll most likely get to play it at his house. This game looks like loads of fun.

Why didn't I turn the 360 on yesterday? ..now I gotta wait to get home to DL this.... zombie killin' gonna be lots of fun in this game

You're gonna have a long wait. It took me a good few hours to download the whole thing. 1000+ mb.

I got my brother in law to turn it on and start downloading it ... so by the time I get home it should be playable... except I have a BBQ to host first...ah well... free food!

Well, I've finally had time to put some time into the demo and I like it. the physics are great, the sound is amazing. The little bits and pieces of story you see in the demo when you run inot a certain area make me want this game even more. The near limitless supply of objects you can use is great.... you may either tear the zombies apart...or put a horse head on them and throw some cooking at them and watch them slip and fall... I love it!

The whole system of taking pictures and receiving points based on that is pretty cool I think....one zombie even looked like my fiancees cousin

I did like the demo myself. I mean it is so entertaining killing those freaking zombies! Sometimes I even laughed when I threw them with something. Using the golf club is awesome too . I mean it is fun to just pick up almost anything to attack the zombies with but I think it is more like a rent? 'Cuse this is sure to get repetitive after a while, I mean I have played the demo like 5-7 times now and it is starting to get a little bit boring. I know there is story and all that in the actual game, but I think renting it will be enough.

I'm so glad this game finally came out i've been waiting for it for months, too bad i'm too poor to buy it, but i think the demo is awesome i like the sword the best.

I Don't have a 360 myself, but my mate showed me loads of videos of dead rising, and this is one reason Why i want one. It looks awesome! Now I need to tell my friend to get the demo...

Forget the demo buy the game, it is the best game ever.
