Does anyone know of the report back in 1969, that came out in BEYOND MAGAZINE, on a 14 foot metal sphere that was found in a remote interior jungle of Chili?
It was in the September issue and there was an expected follow-up. I have several of these issues missing after that date.
The article reads: UNIDENTIFIABLE METAL SPHERE FOUND IN CHILI
A metal sphere, about fourteen feet in diameter, and bearing no markings whatsoever, has been found in the primitive jungle in the interior of Chili.
Scientists who have examined the sphere and subjected it to tests, say that it is of no metal or alloy that they are familiar with.
It is over three tons in weight, and impervious to attacks from fire, acid, and cutting tools with diamond bits. The surface, perfectly smooth. does not seem to reflect light, nor does it register changes in temperature.
Tests with a geiger counter show that there is no emission of radiation. No sound or odor, apparent to either the human sense-organs or testing machines, comes from the sphere.
Dr. Ramos Tiertez, director of the Chilean National Institute for Scientific Research, states trhat he believes the sphere to be an "artifact of extra-terrestrial civilization which has visited -- and may be now visiting our planet.
'What its purpose is, I cannot surmise," says Dr. Tiertez. "We can only wait -- and see."
This article appears on page 5, BEYOND, September issue, Vol. 2, No. 13.

Any idea what happened to it? If it is something special, the Chilean Goverment might be covering it up.

Or perhaps it is now in the posession of the United States government. I know that they like things like that.

News from Chile? They probably lied about it.

I recognize that it may be a fabrication.
But if anyone has complete issues of BEYOND magazine, from October 1969 to at least the end of 1975, It would be helpful and interesting to see if there was a follow up story.
It would be worth the effort to see if indeed there was a Dr. Tiertez that worked for this facility at that time.

good science fiction. a metal sphere weighing only 3 tons, 14 feet in diameter maybe ceramic-metal matrix hybrid metals, these are their properties.

I have heard of many cases of large stone spheres being found in the jungles of South America and other places for which there is no adequate explanation for how they were fashioned or for what purpose.
I have not heard of any metal ones though. Hmmm.

Don't worry. We'll find that giant metal sphere, open it up, and release all the millions of daleks imprisoned inside. They'll soon sort them nancy-boy Cybermen out

Phew

That is a relief!!! I always thought the Daleks were cool.
Just have to build stairwells with little headroom for safety measures....
Can't believe they made Daleks flying creatures..... How daft were the 60s with their line of thinking???

I Don't know if it's the same one, as it's been a while, but I've seen a magazine on sale in smiths called 'Beyond'- could have been resurrected?
It has picture of a grey style alien on the front, has anyone else seen it?

Anyone ever read that book "Sphere" by Michael Crichton? The story sounds similar to the book. Interesting read, I hope someone finds out info about it.

I hope somebody can find something on it. Seems if there was any possibility of being true, this would be an item that would show up for evidence on every web site.
