This is the weirdest thing. I should preface this with I am both an atheist and a non-beleive in ghosts etc...

I am an avid sceptic in most things that people would call paranormal, but I have no idea whats going on. I am away from home right now at a family members home in montreal. I was at the same house last summer. Last summer on 6 or 7 occasions over the course of one month the front of my bed would start to shake. Usually it was when i was just waking up, and always late at night when it was very dark. At the time I was sleeping in the basement and kind of wrote it off to nerves. I even researched things like restless leg syndrome etc... in hopes to explain what was going on. One night I woke up and the bed was litterally 6 inches away from the wall. I know i didn't go to sleep like this because the pillows were sinking between the wall and the mattress when it was like this and it was terribly uncomfortable. Anyhow, I fixed the mattress and did some expirementing with kicking violently, which at the time I thought might be the cause of all this. Maybe, a bad dream or something. I found no matter how violently I kicked, short of like a wild animal, that I couldn't move the mattress more than a half an inch. Eventually I leave to go back home and write it off as nothing. Infact until very recently I didn't even remember it.

I'm back in the same house this summer, for a month again, but I'm sleeping upstairs this time. I get the same thing. This summer after about 3 weeks it has happened only 2 or 3 times and always less violently. I have never seen or heard anything beyond this in the house to make me think it's haunted and up until this point, and I am 21, I have never experienced anything like this.

Anyone have any idea what is going on? Someone point me in the right direction as I'm willing to entertain ideas that I might not otherwise listen to.

Cheers,
Riles

I'd think that if you suffer from night terrors, you would have some other indication of that.

I can't offer a plausible explanation, and so I'll offer an implausible one: A spirit is trying to tell you something. Get a good trance medium in there. Don't tell her anything at all. Just listen to what she has to say. If somebody is there in spirit and wants to be noticed, it stands to reason that s/he'll tell the medium.

If you just want the shenanigans to stop, say so, out loud. Something along the lines of, cut it out, you're scaring me.

You said you would sleep in the basement and then the bed would start to shake....Sometimes that might happen if a big truck is passing nearby.

Yes, or a train or something. I thought of that, too. But if any place in the house had a solid footing, it would have to be the basement, wouldn't it? And vibrating to 6 or 8 inches away from the wall seems a lot, when very powerful kicks were required to reproduce that movement. And then the phenomenon followed him upstairs. That's why I discarded the passing truck/train theory.

The only thing that i can say is its either ghosts or a a small earthquake, hah im joking, its defintly ghosts, my uncle is a minister and i used to live in his basment and there were times were i thought i was going crazzy, but sorry to burst your atheist bubble, but with all do respect maybe you should start believing in god and the devil, because they defintly believe in you, ive seen extremly strange things, and i know exactly how strange and confused you feel after it happens, im a strong christian so maybe you may think im speaking only from a religous view point, but the fact is those are evil spirits or like many say "demons" but they obviously were messing with your head, think about it, it might seem a little crazy for the average non believing person, but the truth is scary haha no pun intended, just letting you know maybe you should start researching the Bible alittle it might help you in times of weird strange happenings, ive seen alot and had many scary experiences with supernatural beings and my faith in Christ has always helped me.

Could be ghosts. But there could also be a scientific explanation regarding the earth/land that the house is on.

I hadn't thought of that. What'd you have in mind?

Come on give the guy a break, you will freak him out...
This has nothing to do with the devil or god, as said earlier he has a troubled spirit that wants to contact him. cool.gif

You did not mention whether or not the rest of the family have shared the same experience as you ? I know it can be a difficult thing to mention at the dinner table, but you might be suprised that other family members are going through the same thing and are worried to mention it. If they have you can get your heads together and find out the history of the house, previous owners, deathes in the house etc... And if they have not then you know it is aimed at you and someone is trying to get a message to let you know that they are there. There is 101 reasons why it could be trying to contacting you, get a medium in and go from there.
Just going back a bit does it happen anywhere else, ie; your real home ?

Okay, to answer some questions. No one else in the house has ever experienced it. The house was built in the 50's and it had only one previous owner who was a Dr. He did not die in the house and as far as everyone knows no one has died in the house.

It wasn't just in the basement that this happened though, it happened upstairs this year since I had switched rooms. However, it only has happened to me at this house like I said...

Pretty crazy stuff. And no, your not going to creep me out. In my opinion a ghost could be the best thing that could happen. Even a "devil" or a "spirit" or w/e. For me even if it was malevolen; I'm leaving in 4 days... but this would be confimation for me that there was something after.

So, what I am trying to say is that if i saw a ghost I would be elated not scared.
