This is my first post on this sight, and I didn't know whether to put this in the Ghosts forum or the UFOs forum because I really don't know what this is.
Two nights ago, I was sitting on my back patio listening to music when my friend pointed out something distant in the sky. I didn't make much of it at first, because there is an airport near my house and planes fly by all the time. But when it started getting closer, I realized that it wasn't an airplane, and that it was much closer than I had thought,
When it flew past a tree in my backyard, I noticed that it was less than 40 feet away. It was a ball of light, very small and bright. It moved very slowly at first, moving at about four or five miles per hour. It was going at an angle toward the ground.
I went into my bedroom to get my camera, and when I came out it had gotten much closer. I snapped one picture of it, but my camera has a slow loading time, and when the flash went off, it sort of evaporated.
When I uploaded the picture onto my computer, it came out very bad, with just a very small spot of light in the middle of complete darkness. I found a program on my computer that enhances photos, and ran the picture through it. When I did so, the object appeared to have some sort of tail.
Forgive the poor quality, the program that I used to enhance the picture made it kinda grainy.
I'm not the kind of person who gets scared of the unknown, I just get curious.
I would love to hear your opinions on what this thing was, and if you have any questions I'm more than willing to answer them.
*Trying to get a good version of the picture up so you can see it closely, please be patient.*

Interesting story and photo. I honestly can't tell you exactly what it is. Perhaps
you have the only photo of an actual spirit orb.

Bizarre.
I can't make anything of the picture, but if the story is true, I can't offer a plausible explanation. I'd like more details, like how you knew its distance and speed.
If it's not the neighbor kid's homemade balloon-lantern UFO toy and is indeed a silent, free-floating, light-emitting orb, I wouldn't like it one bit. I don't know of many stories where any good comes of those.

Well, the speed and distance were estimations, and it was around 12:30 AM, if that helps.

It's the moon.
But it's got a light trail as though it is moving downwards. I think we'd
all know about it if the moon decided to drop out of the sky

It's difficult for us to say what it is based on the photograph - a noble effort, but it doesn't show us too much, unfortunately.
Was there any sound or hum? Any other objects around at the time?
A really big, slow firefly?

I've seen yellow spheres twice.Once when i was building my last house,my cousin was helping me out by doing some work on the roof,i heard him shouting and ran out as i thought he'd fallen off....."Look up there WTF" he said and pointed towards the sky....i'd say about 150 ft up there were two yellow glowing spheres moving (intelligently) around each other .
They took off in a sweeping curve at first and then straight up at fantastic speed....It was a Hot July day with clear blue skies and i live nowhere near a swamp.
A few weeks after i moved in my aunt was out visiting one night ,when she was leaving we commented on what a beautiful night it was ....all of a sudden out of nowhere these two glowing spheres came down toward the house and just as suddenly swept up in an arc .....If you could imagine like the NIKE logo, down kind of steeply and sweeping up at a shallower angle...once again they picked up pace and dissapeared quickly....and once again the pair interacted without touching...kind of moving around each other....SO does this sound anything like what you saw ?
Your photo looks exactly like what i saw except there were two each time.
