Already been posted in the ‘wierd Sea Creatues’ [sic] thread. It was up for auction on ebay. Apparantly the seller has a habit of finding weird creatures washed up on Florida beaches. Ahem…

LMAO at that whoever thinks thats real well....and whoever buys it is a bit on the mental side....or just lieks colecting a lot fo rubbish stuff.

Anyways off the head i'm sure i've seen something like that style in Stingray when i used to watch it all them years ago grin2.gif ....

But still it's combines human with fish, maybe a incessed mermaid?
~Onyx~
Yeah it was posted previously, I believe it to be a cross between Dumb and Ridiculous...which would make it of the "Dumdiculous" family.....not as rare a breed as you would imagine.
Lorelei
Yes, it was sold on Ebay going to a user called Mystery Museum for $1,550.00! w00t.gif $200.00 for shipping and handling not included tongue.gif

Here was the story that accompanied the photos:
While exploring desolate areas of Fort Desoto Beach at the southern end of St. Petersburg, here in Florida, I came upon a rather startling discovery. Before me lay what at first appeared to be a very large strange fish. Shocked and amazed, I realized I had found another mermaid or sea monster.
I went back to my car to get my camera. My hands were shaking as I tried to calm down to take these photos. This Mermaid or Sea monster, you be the judge, is a few inches shy of being 5 feet long. Laying on a fresh natural bed of seaweed, this creature of the sea looks out as if still alive. What killed this mystery from the depths?
Recently in the news there was talk of another outbreak of Red Tide. Had this mermaid fallen ill from this mysterious dreaded disease from the sea?
Looking over her gracefull body, I realized what a special creature she must had been in life. Was she the missing link between primates and fish? In time, what would evolution had shaped this creature to be?
I sat there thinking for awhile and realized I must get this mermaid back home. I could always ponder later.
The winner to this auction will recieve the sea creature shown in the photos below. The photos have not been altered or retouched nor are they result of photo shop. The entire body has been determined to be covered in once living fish skin with scales. I have drilled a small hole in the back of the head so that it can be hung up on a wall for display.
Please do not bid if you have a zero feedback rating. I have the right to reject any bidders for several reasons of my own choosing. Please email me with your comments and questions.

I saved this all on my computer, including photos, for future reference. thumbsup.gif

As I said in the previous thread, I really don’t think it’s that dumb a purchase. I know I’m making an assumption here, but I’d say from the username that the buyer probably runs a museum of such things, and charges people to check out his collection.

For every ‘dumb’ person who pays $1000 for something like this, there’s thousands of dumb people who’ll pay $2 each to see it…

A modern day Barnum, if you ask me. This way to the egress, anyone?

I don't know, I'm of the opinion of "just beacuse someone will pay money for it/or to see it, dosen't justify it's relevance", but if the only barometer of whether or not something is "worth it" or not is by how much someone will pay to see it or own it....then I suppose that there are 1550 reasons to call that "art".......but I don't subscribe to that point of view, myself.

The person that made this creature has posted on this site before. He is an artist/taxidermist of sorts. Here is a link to one of his threads.

Well we know that someone will end up buying it real or not. Funny thing is the buyer "might" think it's the real thing. Imagine coming over to the buyer's house and seeing that thing hang on the wall. Creepy.....
~Onyx~
Well....I read the link.... blink.gif ....and if it seems that I am at a bit of a loss for words, it is beacuse in this case a PICTURE is worth a thousand words:

*mumbles to himself* flesh is real..so that makes the "art" real......*rubs his temples*....that's a new one. hmm.gif

What you’re thinking of is a ‘Feejee’ mermaid – half monkey, half fish, popularised by PT Barnum. Those were examples of taxidermy – this isn’t. It’s just a model; I don’t think any part of it was ever alive, except possibly the horses whose hooves made the glue.

No, I disagree. If you notice in his description on Ebay, no where does he put that the monster is real. But, he puts things like the body is of real fish scales.
I'm thinking the skeleton is made out of some sort of plaster and then covered with cured and dried fish scales.
If you look at the photo attached, you can even see the seam where the fish skin was cut and then re-joined.
Regardless, it must have taken a very long time to make something like this. But, I still wouldn't pay over a thousand dollars for it w00t.gif

I forgot to add this picture in as well.
You can clearly see the seam here yes.gif

Yeah, that's a good pic showing the seam. I don't think anyone would debate that it took skill and effort to create...but if your "selling-point" is "It's made of real flesh...therefore it's real"...... huh.gif .....that guy was a bit off....talented, but off.
Sthenno
I stand corrected…. Yuck! I think I preferred it when I thought it was plaster, but, respect to the effort I guess. That guy must keep his local fishmonger in business!
