I'm only 13 years old, I like Mozart's Requiem and I have an abstract painting in my room. I also have a sophisticated, yet pessimistic attitude, a wide vocabulary and I drink coffee at school instead of lunch. Am I strange, or just mature for my age?

I think its normal. But I'm 15, thats too old for me to remember 13 tongue.gif A lot of us teens are getting more sophisticated with every generation. Me, well, I have a healthy diet of Rap, books, and Ed. T.V. Also some video-games and cable with a sprinkling of internet whenever possible. Hard being in NYC, trust me. Not as sophisticated as, oh, say... you. But hey, I am way more sophisticated than my parents were when they were my age.

Thanks. I'm not saying I don't still enjoy video games and things like that, though. I'd hang myself if I didn't have computers. tongue.gif

I also have a sophisticated........attitude...

How do you define 'sophisticated'? I certainly don't think there's anything 'weird' about you - everyone has his own tastes and interests. Whether you like Mozart and Harry down the road likes Neil Diamond doesn't make you or him weird.

I would just be careful you don't become too jaded or cynical, with all your 'sophistication' and 'pessimism'. What are you pessimistic about, exactly???

And although you may have a wide vocabulary (not sure what you're using as your yardstick here though) you should check the spelling in your signature, to make sure your keen appreciation for good English shines through in everything you do.

I'm sure you are aware of the exact meaning of the word, but I'm using it in the sense that I'm above all the childish things. The irony of coarse is that I am still a child, Thus the beginning of this thread, due too my concern. So here we are.

So instead of trying to retort the rest of your post, I would just like to point out that yes, I had misspelt sarcasm in my signature. A situation I have remedied. How a misplaced "C" can cause you too make such assumptions on my part is a mystery to me.

So maybe you matured faster than your peers. That doesn't make you sophisticated or weird, it just makes you you.

If you wonder how I can make assumptions about you based on your misspelling of three words, then you need to re-define your ideas about vocabulary, don't you?

Surely in order to be able to claim a good one you should also be able to spell the words you say you can use?

I wouldn't worry about being weird, if I were you, you strike me as being just about as confident (maybe arrogant) as my little 13 year old daughter is, too. Just a stage, my dear.

And perhaps 'paradox' might be a more fitting word here than 'irony'... just a thought.

Touché... I think you might be taking this a little more seriously than I first thought... perhaps I hit a nerve?

Look, you asked for my opinion, I'm giving it. Perhaps it's YOUR nerve that's hit?

LizFL
nope, you are not weird. Just make sure your youth doesn't pass you buy. Trust me, you'll miss it if you do! original.gif

There aren't really such things as 'weird' or 'normal' past basic human opinion.
It should not matter to you how you are percieved by others, specially you who are so young and have so much growth and change ahead.
Just be individual, and you'll be fine.
