X-Men 4 Update
And a word on Wolverine.

August 14, 2006 - X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner says contract renegotiations are the biggest stumbling blocks in order for X-Men 4 to become a reality.

"The newer cast members are signed, and the older cast members are not," Shuler Donner advised L.A. Daily News columnists Marilyn Beck And Stacy Jenel Smith.

That would mean veteran cast members, such as Hugh Jackman, and Halle Berry, could be too expensive now for 20th Century Fox.

Jackman, however, is onboard for the prequel/spinoff Wolverine, which he is also producing for Fox via his Seed Prods. shingle.

"Next, we're going to do Wolverine, but not before the end of the year because he's in the Baz Luhrmann film," Shuler Donner confirmed. "We have the [Wolverine] script and are working on it. ... We also have Young Magneto in development."

Sheldon Turner is writing the Magneto screenplay, while David Benioff is penning Wolverine. No directors are attached to either project yet.

ugh i hate it when people drag on movie series. X-Men II the LAST STAND i think rightfully should be the last movie, because it's dubbed the LAST STAND. it's like when disney does a true story movie and then they make some distorted degrading sequel.
Jok3r
It's gonna suck if Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry won't play the part of Wolverine and Storm. It just wouldn't be the same with different actors.

lol that disney part is funny. How many lion kings were there? I mean i know thats not a true story just saying is all.
TheCrow
Actually Lion King is one of a very few if not the only film disney did a sequel to where it wasn't bad. Lion King 2 wasn't totally bad and Lion King 3 (or LK 1.5) was actually a pretty funny and good take on the first film. And I have heard alright things about Bambi 2 actually though I have no desire to see it. It's stuff like Cinderella 2 that is unnecessary.

And comic book movie franchises are one of the few types of movies you could continue one for several movies because, in most cases, of the rich history and stories of the characters. Take X-Men for example.. There are so many characters... so many huge scale storylines that have been done over the years that there is enough material to keep making movies... They could do Apocolypse or Mr Sinister although it would be somewhat hard to transfer them to film, E for Extinction, Days of Future Past, they could do a sentinel war, the Legacy virus.. or they could start focusing on a new team.. bring Angel in.. get Psylocke in, bring Nightcrawler back etc.. providing it is continued to be handled with such effort as the 3 previous films they could keep putting out some quality films. If you get tired of them then don't see them, no need to stop doing them..
Super Pancake
Good they need a new wolverine Hugh Jackman made wolverine look like he was on slim fast or something and as an actress Halle Berry sucks.

What they and us as comic book fans need to do is pretend X-men III the last stand did not exist and make a real x-men movie

Personally I liked the tone and style that Brett delivered and wouldn't mind if he had another shot at an X-Movie, maybe making it more his own and not try to keep in line with Singers as much.. It was the story that didn't quite deliver.. That was a very watered down Phoenix 'Saga' and just kinda slapped in with the 'war' there was just too much going on..
Celumnaz
woot

Just take the bajillions they're offering an quit holding out for more! tongue.gif

They need to make more X-Men movies than Halloweens or Friday the 13ths or whatever. Combined.
woody82
If they make X-men four without some of the main actors and actresses Hugh Jackan etc it won't be the same, as for another film i don't know the last was a classic and wouldn't want more if it's going to go down hill.....
jesspy
Thay dont need jackman or berry its not called Wolverine and storm the movie. They can focus on the lesser guys for once. Just because they are big name stars doesnt mean you need them to bring the audience in. everyione loves X men no matter what or who is starring
Sweetpumper
Jackman was perfect for Wolverine, kids. They did the right thing by not casting Brad Pitt or Matt Damon for the role. Appreciate it. Even his looks were perfect for the part. The only thing that could possibly make yet another film better is a different villian. I don't know how you can continue cleanly though when you've killed off Cyclops and the Professor.
woody82
UNless Magneto comes back as it cut off when he was trying his powers....so if he still has them or retains them then he could return to either one lead the X-Men against something or two refound the brother hood.

But did Cyclops die in the cartoons or the mags?
CaitSith
Cyclops and many other characters have died at some point, only to miraculously return in some way. Thunderbird, Collosus, and Pyro are the only three I can think of that died permanently and Thunderbird is the only one I think that died in combat (the other two died of the Legacy Virus.) Funny thing about that Virus, it was released by Stryfe, the clone of Cable, who is Cyclops and Jeans son from an alternate future.
The things these writers come up with is amazing, like Soap writers
woody82
Sounds a fair story, but i can't remember the film exactly x-men 3 do we see Cyclops die or just be attacked? As he couldof survived....

Any how i'd prefer it to stick with 3 films no more are needed, unless they use the current cast and expand on them some how but who would be the enmie......?

X-men have plenty of villians to choose from

Apocalypse would be a good choice

yeah heck we dont even need a Xmen movie you could make individual movies out of those characters and their stories. Then u do sequels and we have enough movies til last a lifetime
mr. E
I think that they need to stop seeing the X-Men as a "property" and stop trying so hard to make easily marketable films that don't deliver creatively. I personally think that the people who are making the X-Men films now need to stop. They had their go at it, and while some may like what they did, there are others to whom it left much to be desired. I think that they need to "Batman Begins" the X-men franchise and scrap what's been done. While there were some supremely satisfying moments in the X-films (seeing a good-looking Wolverine, seeing Cyclop's optic blasts in live-action, Colossus' cameo in the first film, others), getting a few good things doesn't constitute a good movie, especially not with the rich source material that can be drawn from.
One of my main gripes with Singer's films is the lack in character development of the character's besides Wolverine and Rogue. It was titled "X-Men", not "Wolverine". (That's another reason why i'm wondering why they're bothering to make another Wolverine movie). Cyclops, Jean, Prof. X, Iceman, all seemed to come off as a little flat. In terms of the praises people constantly sing about Singer's casting ability, Halle Berry was NOT a good storm. Storm is supposed to be an African goddess, and should have a more commanding presence, and a stronger voice. Halle Berry just did not give off that vibe of strong, proud African woman. Hugh Jackman did a good job as Wolverine, but Jackman wasn't Singer's first choice. He wanted actor Dougray Scott, who was too busy filming MI 2. Patrick Stewart was good as Prof. X, but come on, that's a no brainer that people have been begging for for years. The choice of movie villains was weak. MAgneto in the first was good, but then William Stryker in the 2nd? That was pretty weak. If they had thrown in some sentinels (REAL sentinels) then the potential of the film would have been heightened. The third film just had Magneto again, and a weak adaptation of the Dark Phoenix Saga.
Basically, an X-Men film should have a group of interacting characters that we can actually care about, and not just spotlight a few. It should hold more true to the source material. If anyone wants to see what an X-Men movie could have been, pick up back issues of New X-Men, a comic written by Grant Morrison and drawn by Frank Quitely.
It's not enough to throw some scraps to the true fans of the X-Men, and favor what executives THINK the masses will like. Why not make a movie true to the comic that made the X-Men famous to begin with, and then let the masses decide for themselves what they like?
Anyway, sorry for my rant. For those that disagree, tear me up.

Mr E thanks heaps i tried saying something similar earlier

you are correct in everyway.
See its now that Jackman ansd berry are bigger stars hey need bigger parts. When the first Xmen was released Jackman was a little known Australian actor who had only starred in Kate and leopald. While berry was known but it wasnt til she won the oscar that she demanded more of a role or she wouldnt be in 2 & 3. But yeah they need to bring it back to the way the cartoon had it. THEY NEED GAMBIT!!!!!!! LOL also whatever happened to Mystic being rouges ma?
seeking
theres no way mystique is gonna be rouges mom in the movies...rebecca romain would never produce such an ugly child

also as for jackman, i think he will be back, he doesnt seem as cocky as barre, and he seems to love the roll, i think he would be honored to remain being the character...sh** i know if they asked me to be freakin WOLVERINE and i was a movie actor making a decent living, id do it for free....

they do need gambit

and professor x is not dead, cyclops for all we know could have been transfered to another dimension...the good in jean may have fought hard enough against pheonix to protect him that way...proffesor x may be the one strong enough to bring him back

we also dont need magneto in this movie, we should have a new supervillan, apacolypse or sinster, and then at the end have magneto make a comeback to show that he has regained his powers, setting him up for a return in the next movie

as long as they keep the stories good, they can make a million x-men movies

Megalomania
Magneto was awesome in all of the movies though.
Very Megneto-like?

Berry can get lost, but Jackman was great as Wolverine.

Lol to the first comment

ANd please someone make them put gambit in he was just too cool
Super Pancake
Yeah Gambit is a cool character and a very powerful mutant. I wonder why marvel never showed his huge potential at times They hinted he would have the power of gods, but they never expanded that story.
avs76
Sorry to resurrect an old thread...I would love it if xmen was made into a tv series. Obviously special effects would be a cost isssue, but I think there are some great comic story arcs that would be great to see portrayed on the small screen.
magic-meercat
Am i the only one who wants Storm back. Storm was my fav character, but i dont think she got enough screen time. I would like to see Gambit in it to and Xaiver back
Bear's Quest
I wouldn't mind seeing more characters with mutant abilities, it might bring a more creative script out of it and new heroes as well.

Staying with the same X-Men characters makes it too limited...
