What do you think? I personally think it may have been a big bird creature. I mean, a humanoid moth? Give me a break. It seems more possible to be a bird creatures. But if you dissagree, hey your opion.
I'm just interested to know other peoples opions.

I think the only reason they called it moth was because his two eyes resembled the ones of a moth(or was its wings?)

Mothman was a character from the original Batman TV series that was popular at the time.

It started off as a nickname based on the show...

Soooo it doesn't actually have a name...thats why the name MOTHMAN has stuck.
LIGHT L.I. Paranormal
Mothman is based on true events that have occured all over the East Coast mainly Virgina, Georgia, Maryland, Carolina's ect; Until recently, a supposed Mothman sighting was witnessed on Long Island, NY at a place called Mt. Misery which has a ton of folklore surrounding the area itself. This particular land dates all the way back from the 1800's.

Mt. Misery & West Hills Park which is located in Huntington NY actually happens to be the highest point of Long Island at 401 ft.

To learn more about the Mothman watch the movie with Richard Gere called the Mothman Prophecies based on true events. It is said that if the Mothman is seen, that a "BIG Disaster" occurs sometime after. Some people think he is a prophet and chooses certain individuals to share his visions.

Well the movie sucks compared to the real source: John Keel's book! I recommend Curt Sutherly's book "UFO Mysteries" (2001) and also Kenn Thomas' brand-new book "Parapolitics" because there was some serious Men-In-Black intervention and the bridge collapse was in conjunction with the M.I.B. (it happened so suddenly that some have pondered whether Mothman was a CIA psy-op!)

Curious...but has anyone seen this thing lately?

I had heard that mothman didn't even resemble a moth. In fact, from what I've read, it resembled a large bat more closely, but reporters didn't want to name it "Batman" because it would be associated with the superhero (and they didn't want to infringe on the copyright).

Definitely one of the more interesting pieces of American lore. I wish I could provide my own theory as to what it is, but to be honest, I wouldn't know where to start.

According to my researches on Mothman on many books and sources on the net, it resembles either a giant bat or a gaint owl. That's to be precise.

No, Moses-man was a prophet......I think "Mothman" began as a pratical joke or elaborate hoax and has taken-on a life of it's own, so to speak, and while the 1st person accounts are thought-provoking, it's just amazing to me(or convenient) that it could be seen by soooooooooooo many.....and never clearly photographed or video taped.

Mothman for me is one of them things that could be true but theres little proof, or if there have been sightings or reported footage of pictures it's mainly all fake like Big Foot,Nessy etc.

But still having seen the film and not reading up on the topic i'd be nearing towards the thing that it's like a prophet style thing that warns or shows the future events.

Though isn't there something like can';t remember how it goes exactly but something like if a butteerfly flaps its wings it being peaceful were you see it a natural diasater or something happens on the other side of the world, not sure it it's fully correct as i said, i can't remember it fully, but couldn't this be linked with the Mothman supposedly showing us future events and such as people have mentioned thus far?

I think that Mothman is really a very rich guy who fights crime because his parents were murdered and he has a young ward named Dick Greyson and...no wait....

John Keel indeed did a great job collecting and recounting the events and what people had seen.
It has been believed by many to be connected to the UFO phenomena in some way.

I suggest for people to read the book, before passing judgement.

It lived near a tnt factory or something. Could've been a mutation or an alien creature. One woman reported seeing it flying into a UFO in the sky.

So, if it's an extraterrestrial being, there's a big chance that the Mothman wasn't prophecising the disaster, it might be the mothman ITSELF that created the disaster, no?

Yeah if you're going to collapse a bridge, why warn your victims?

Exactly, the whole "extraterrestrial" theory has little or NO substance.

Please tell me how chupacabras are fying moth-things
“Are Chupacabras Invading Texas?” (FATE, March 2006): One aspect of this creature is that its “eyes are black during the day” but glow red at night. She states that “Magdalena Tolentino saw glowing eyes on the being she observed after dark” then asks readers “–biological flashlights or infrared for seeing in the dark?”

The answer might be neither.

Some creatures that use their eyes in dim light have a special reflective layer that acts almost like a mirror at the backs of their eyes. A mirrored layer called the “tapetum lucidum” reflects some of this light back through the retina so it has more chance of being captured. By bouncing the light that comes into their eyes, these animals effectively increase the amount of light available for their eyes to see with, and increase their ability to see in what we perceive as darkness. Cats can see clearly in just 1/6th the amount of light we need. Light that is not used exits through the pupil causing the “glow” of animal eyes often seen in car headlights. In other words, if you shine a flashlight or headlights into their eyes at night, their eyes shine back. Many ambient light sources are sufficient.

This phenomenon is called “eyeshine.”

Eyeshine has been documented during Mothman and Bigfoot encounters.

And somewhere else…

In Celtic Mysteries in New England, (Llewellyn Publication, 2000) author Philip Imbrogno describes a July 1987 UFO encounter where two lawyers and their wives, returning from seeing a Broadway show, took a shortcut down a dark and desolate Magnetic Mine/Reservoir Road near Croton Falls, New York. Long story short, the car engine died and the stranded quartet were approached by three “little guys” dressed in tight-fitting uniforms. These characters had long slender arms and huge eyes on large bald heads.

“At that point the witness on the driver’s side shined the flashlight at the beings, and when the light hit their faces, the beings’ eyes turned a deep red.”

The “little guys” turned and fled through thick brush. At this point, a silent triangular UFO sporting rows of multi-colored lights appeared and engulfed the car in blinding white light before disappearing as if someone had just turned out a light.

Humans do not have a tapetum lucidum. Our eyes look red in some photographs, but “red-eye” is the result of the brilliant camera flash bouncing off the red blood vessels and red tissue in the back of our eyes.

Yours in research,
Robert A. Goerman

“Weird happens. Maybe not as frequently as
some proponents of the paranormal would have
us believe. But certainly more often than
debunkers will ever concede.”
