SAN ANTONIO -- A bar owner fatally wounded a would-be robber who was armed with a BB gun early Friday.

Bexar County sheriff's deputies said that a 21-year-old man walked into the Old Soldiers Club in the 6200 block of Binz-Englemen Road told at 1 a.m. armed with what appeared to look like a .45 caliber handgun. The weapon, though, actually turned out to be a BB gun.

When the man tried to rob the bar, the bar owner fired a single gunshot wound to the man's chest, killing him at the scene, deputies said.

The man has not been identified.

The bar owner is not expected to face charges since his actions were considered to be self-defense.

Great shooting by the bartender to keep himself and customers safe! gunsmilie.gif

Hasn't it perfectly been made clear that bartenders usually carry some sort of firearm behind a bar, in most cases a shotgun?

I know if I ever felt the need to go rob a place, a bar would not be on my top ten list....

Especially with a BB gun in your hand... what a moron!.... it's situations like this that the use of a gun is totally justified.... he could however shot buddy in the arm, leg, shoulder, etc....

If police are trained to disable....why are civilians trained to kill?

By not knowing that this guy had a BB gun, I would of shot to kill as well. Why aim a shot at his arm or shoulder, meaning you have to aim for a few seconds then squeeze the trigger. What I'm trying to say is if you aim for a small target like a arm or a leg your likely to miss. Aiming for the guy's chest is a big target, meaning little or no time aiming and it's likely your going to bring this guy down.

Now also there is some common sense involved. If you bring a gun anywhere it's not supposed to be in the intention to scare someone in order to give you money or goods then you should know that you might get shot in return. I feel no remorse for this idiot who walked into a bar and was shot and killed. He should of known he had a chance of dying when he walked in....

Yes in the case of self defense but I still feel bad for the young guy. Instead of spending a few weeks in jail for doing a crime like this-his life was abruptly ended at such a young age.

Why feel bad for him? Who knows what else he has done or what he was prepared to do if he had a real gun? If you go around robbing people with a weapon then you should be prepared to face the consequences.

Good riddance.

Jamilies gotta gun!

Yes but maybe he could have been helped. I don't think any life deserves to die except maybe serial killers and child predators.

Are they planning to give the bartender a medal for saving all those tax dollars that it would have taken to keep locking this so-dumb-you-know-he-would-have-been-a-career-criminal up?
I always enjoy hearing about stupidity being painful. Particularly, when the stupid one is a criminal, and "painful" ends up fatal.

Yeah I agree with you here. I'm sure the bar owner will have some sort of remorse, but then again he didn't know the guy had a BB gun until after he shot him I presume?

Regardless, its still kinda sad.

Police don't train to wing people. They train so that if a shot needs to be fired then it should be lethal. What police have is the right to carry non-lethal or less-lethal methods of dealing with folks. These are often illegal for regular folks.

I don't feel bad for this guy at all....

...but nothing makes a guy back off like aiming at his crotch. I was in a situation once where I aimed the gun at a guys crotch and told him he would be lucky if the gun kicked. He stayed right where he was untill the police showed up.

Please do elaborate more. Was this some kind of fetish with your husband? Or true?
Michelle
grin2.gif It's true, Nadal...I moved into a particularly bad area of town. It's an historic area with fabulous Victorian houses that had basically become a slum which a lot of people wanted to help restore to it's former splendor...me being one of them.

Drug dealers, gangs, thieves, and the like don't take kindly to do gooders that want to put them out of business and it was a rocky road for quite a few years.

Not that I hadn't thought about that with my ex husband. innocent.gif

edit: Maybe that's why he wouldn't allow a gun in the house. ph34r.gif
