Only a couple of hours ago, my dogs were after one of these. It was a strange looking hairless dog. It didn't look unhealthy and mangy like the one pictured here. It was definitely of the same general build. Like a greyhound almost, but hairless. It's back half was grey, and the front half was kind of tan. I live on a farm and I've seen a lot of coyotes, and this wasn't a coyote. My dogs tore it up pretty bad, but I called them off it. I couldn't see it up close even though it sat in the edge of the woods for a while. I went to get my rifle and field glasses, but it was gone when I got back.

I had looked at the picture here before. It took me a while to find it again.

It could be a mexican or peruvian hairless dog? they look pretty good not like the manged dogs we have discussed here in the past.

Edit: PS Welcome to UM.

Interesting, what neck-o-the-woods are you in? Had you ever seen this animal before?

And welcome!!!!

Why were you trying to kill it?

I live in Texas on a farm. My nearest neighbor is about two miles away. Whatever it was, it was feral. It might be a displaced mexican hairless dog, but aren't they small? This was the size of a greyhound.

Thank you!

No, I've never seen it before. I live in Texas in a very rural area. My dogs usually don't attack other dogs. It was strange to see them fighting it. I thought at first it was a bobcat because it sat up on it's haunches and pawed at them. I was a couple of hundred yards away at that time. By the time I got there, they had bloodied it. That's when I called them off.

It ran to the edge of the woods, and stayed just inside the treeline.

Well, there ARE anomolies in every species, but if(by chance) you can get some sort of pic it would go a long way towards a resolution(hopefully).

I had no intention of killing it. I'm alone here until around seven tonight. An aggressive wild animal attack could leave me disabled lying in 100 degree heat for six hours. The rifle was for defense; the field glasses were to get a closer look.

My dogs don't usually attack other dogs. They do attack coyotes and other things dangerous to cattle. I didn't know what the thing was, other than it looked like a big canine animal. It's head was like a Jackal's. It's body was the size and shape of a greyhound.

I would shoot only if it charged me.

I have a digital camera with fair resolution and a zoom function. I'll try to get a pic if comes back after the welcoming committee it got.

I didn't post that picture or name it. The thing I saw looked something like the picture, only larger and healthy. I don't think it was a chupacabra; I just haven't seen anything like it before. It was more like a cross between a jackal and a greyhound.

Wow. You're correct. I posted the link to that picture that called it a Chupacabra Dog. I never meant that it was a chupacabra that I saw. It was a feral canine of some sort. I've never seen any other dog quite like it.

The sick and lame are the FIRST to go in the animal kingdom....something about "only the strong" or something of that nature.
