But now I decided to ask what this is?

The snout looks like crocodilian, however it begs the question what is a crocodile doing in Russia? And if crocodiles are in Russia, what is it doing in the ocean? Whatever it is it is big...

I wonder if it could be a really badly decayed salt water croc. Not sure why it would be in Russia or the ocean, but its worth thinking about.

It's teeth aren't an alligator or crocodile's though. I'd like to see some close-ups of the teeth. It's hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like the teeth have grinding surfaces. They look like they're long and pointy, but realize just how much of the tooth is below gums (like an iceburg) and this thing is pretty dessicated.

I can't make out the eye sockets, or a blowhole, or anything that would steer me toward any known creature. It looks a bit like an upside down croc. But it's so decated and disarrayed, I can't hazard a guess.

Someone suggested it looked like an exploded horse on steroids.
It would be nice if someone cleaned and mounted the skeleton.

Its probobly an orca or something. What would an orca be doing in russia though?

Aug 28 2006, 11:43 PM
There don't seem to be any holes for nostrils, at the front of the snout, as there should be if it were a land mammal. Unless it's upside down, in which case one can't see if there are nostril holes or not. If it's right side up, it would seem to be some kind of sea mammal, like some sort of whale. Very strange, and I can see why that one guy was smoking a cigarette. It probably does not smell very good.

It's a FAKE. Nothing but a skeleton of a horse head, put upside down!
And the body, who knows maybe made of ceramics or plaster.

after seeing the beluga skull i definately see a direct resemblance between the creaures head and the beluga. as for the rest ive heard that some whales have had mutations in thier genetics which has allowed hair, if in only an inch or so thick layer, to grow on the skin. its unfortunate that the russian military took it away b4 further analasyis was made. but we all know the russians will share now dont we *add sarcasm*

And of course we all know that any reasonable scientific explanation will be greeted with cries of a coverup. Same thing happened to a supposed chupacabra skeleton.

Its a beluga whale. Thats what they look like wene they die and rout. The ribs are like that because the gas in the body makes the rib cage blow up. The tale and other fins rout and forl off or there eating off.

Looking at these 2 images together I have to agree with the Beluga Whale theory. The skulls are pretty much the same angle to the camera. They look close to the samething to me.

There are 2 things I would like to know.
1: Do Beluga Whales live around Russia?
2: Do Beluga's get as big as this?

I'm asking because I honestly dont know.

Beluga is a cold water marine mammals, that will describe the carcass' origin: Sakhalin Shores, one of the cold water in Russian seas.
Beluga can grow to 16ft. and the skeleton match the carcass. Great posibility is another kind of whale like Minke Whale.

Nope cant be a Minke, they're a baleen whale. This "mystery" creature clearly has teeth.
