So I have an interest in the paranormal. Obviously. Or I wouldn't be a member of this forum. The big thing that got me into it was a book I picked up at a used book store years ago..."Mysteries fo the Unexplained" by Reader's Digest. Probably not the most reliable source, but it's still a good book. Anyways, I like books like that....when it comes to non-fiction, I like books that simply archive the information they have into one great book and don't turn them into stories or have stupid illustrations....it was "straight to the point" and interesting. So, can anybody here reccomend a good book on the paranormal in general to me? By "in general" I mean I'd prefer books that covered a variety of phenominon...I've had trouble finding any like this on the internet..

Actual title is The Rough Guide to Unexplained Phenomena.

All-encompassing, sober yet fun. Relatively recent (2000). It does contain illustrations-- mostly very good historical pics. It's still in print, so you can order it online for less than $20. I found mine at a bookstore. 3 out of 3 reviewers at Amazon gave it 5 stars, including our own drew_hempel. Don't let that dissuade you. It's a great book.

Holy crap! Thank you! This is absolutely what I've been looking for! I mean, don't get me wrong, Mysteries of the Unexplained it good but that was from 1982. This ought to be excellent. Thanks again!


Edit: I'll keep my eye on that one for now...but my mom came home this morning from the used book store and..well....hoorah! She dug up some copies of Time-Life's "Mysteries of the Unknown"... "Cosmic Connections, Mind Over Matter, Search for the Soul, Mystic Places, Phantom Encounters, Psychic Voyages, and Mysterious Creatures. I hit the jackpot!
