Pastafarian, and Yes, I have been touched by his noodly appendage.

My main reasons for conversion are:

1. Flimsy moral standards.
2. Every friday is a religious holiday.
3. Our heaven is WAY better. We've got a Stripper Factory AND a Beer Volcano.

- All Hail the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

On the contrary, zandore. The Flying Spaghetti Monster has graced the UM boards on at least three other occassions. Regardless of what forum they were started on, eventually they all got moved to the jokes section (and none of them - til now - by me). That's because primarily FSM'ism was/is a "religion" started to parody the beliefs of other religions. And as with any good parody it is amusing and posts reflect that. Essentially this thread was a "hey, any pastafarians here", and the first reply (which I believe would have been the normative response) to the thread was "Yeah, we got beer volcanoes and stripper factories". Not really conducive to spiritual discussion, though good for a laugh, hence I moved it to these boards.

Regards, PA

btw, retret - I've sent you a PM with a possible alternative, if you're interested thumbsup.gif

Now that is just not very fair. Just because there are people who don't respect the religion does not mean the concept should be turned into a joke. If there are people who choose to make fun of the religion, it's only fair that it be considered Flaming.

Christianity is a combination of atleast 3 different religions, yet it commands respect on these boards. Whether this religion is parody or not (and I'm entirely certain it is), it deserves the same amount of respect, since it's just as plausible. It's only fair. yes.gif

Beer volcanoes and stripper factories are just as unreasonable as 72 virgins and 80,000 servants. I find the thought of 72 women being the wives of one person in a paradise laughable, but mock it and there would be trouble. Would a thread about this Muslim belief be moved to the jokes section because some people find it ridiculous?

Whatever this religion is, spite or otherwise, it deserves just as much respect as the other religions - even if it's not generally taken seriously.

That's swung it. It was either pastafarianism or shed worship. Whilst the shed had some interesting positives (it contained a rake) - it was, in the end, just a shed. Therefore...

Long live FSM!

Well Jayman, if you (or anyone else for that matter) think this should go back to the Spirituality boards, feel free to PM Saruman or one of the other mods and take it up with them.

Actually, the FSM isn't as much about spirituality as it is a debate of skepticism VS spirituality.

To use the words of David Wong:

"The Flying Spaghetti Monster, if you haven't heard of it, is an internet phenomenon started to show the utter ridiculousness of religious belief. They point out that you can't prove the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) doesn't exist, even though it's intentionally retarded, and thus all religions are also retarded because they also cannot be proven or disproven."

Link to quote: http://www.pointlesswasteoftime.com/horror.html

The FSM was, at first, a rebuttal to the decision of teaching intelligent design in Kansas schools. It then became much larger:

Church of the flying spaghetti monster

I suggest you go to that site and read for a while, especially the letter he sent to the Kansas school board.
