A typical retort to non believers when the 'big bang' theory is mentioned is ' yes but what was there before the big bang?' infering that everything has a beginning, if so then i think a valid question would also be 'what came before God?''

Who knows? Maybe God is just a being that is a conglomeration of energies, the gravitational pull of a black hole meets solar winds meets the force of a comet's impact on Jupiter. Maybe God is the first being, and as we possibly evolved, He evolved into consciousness.
A stupid answer, I know, but it makes as much sense as Cyclonus J's. laugh.gif

You fail to mention what other theory believed by many scientists. It is known as the "Steady State" universe, in which the universe has existed does exist and always will exist. I guess you could think of it as both theories combined, the Big Bang started the universe we know today, and yet Steady-State as God has been here all along. If you would like more info post here or PM me and I'll send you some more stuff grin2.gif

scientists now believe the big bang is perpetual, the universe grows like ripples in a pond, it eventually stops and starts to contract until it disappears, and the process starts all over again.

What i'd like to know is why did "God" leave it 200,000 odd years before informing us of his existence.
Heru
Hmm. Well Jewish mystics say it was Ain "No thing" then Ain Soph "Limitless light".

Egyptians say the primordial sea of Nu (chaos or no thing). Who God came into being from.

The greeks which if I remembered right there was the father of Chronos (sorta like Aeons to eary christians) who chronos killed then later got killed which made time no longer constant; so I guess A living Chronos was. Im not familiar with greek though.

I know in hindu, im dont know the names. But there was God who is Supreme Conciousness before him nothing for he is outside of time, and begining and end are children of time. And somthing about a string and vibrations and then you sitting at your computer creating this Topic.

But then again they could be all talking about the creation of life. So maybe God himself doesnt know. It was just there.
Sorta like who came first the Chicken or the Egg. I say the chicken cause I believe in a creator god. But some might say an Egg, if your into the big bang and no god creating the universe.

"There is no real answer to this post" can be said about a lot of posts on this board. Even things like "Are ghosts real?" "Are aliens real?" There is no real answer to those either, but people still come up with theories. Like this question, he is curious as to what people think about what was here before god, or if it is possible. I personally thought you telling him to stop making stupid posts was rude...

Anyways, back onto topic, I've thought about this question before also. It really kind of freaks you out to think about it, nothingness is impossible, it never existed.... weird. How can that be? Nothingness NEVER existed..... I think I'm gonna go puke now...

I think his intention was to get people to think, there obviously is no real answer.

Time does not apply to God, or the spiritual world. How can we really say that God has a beggining if we don't know what he is or where he is. If he is timeless and placeless then does time really apply to him. Until we can comprehend what God really is, that question should remain unanswered yes.gif

The answers to "What was before God-What is God-What is behind space-How can something come from nothing-is The Twilight Zone.

If we knew our little human brains would explode.

Everyonce in a while i get a terrified feeling when thinking about this stuff. Every once in a while i ask just where the heck are we all and what's going on?

It's an awesome thought that one day we might find these answers. I wonder what they are?

A book i read called the answers to these questions "The secret fire". In the end the book says, when the story of Earth is complete, at last all the roaming spirits both good and bad will gather in a great assembly and God will share the secrets and every life form will be given the understanding of the purpose of life and the reasons for there existence. From there our spirits will move on into the beyond. Beyond even the answers to these questions, and other questions will arise.

For now however the play couldn't go on if we knew too much.

Or it's just a dream and we one day wake up in some other life and go AHHHHHHHHHHh!
ShaunZero
My problem with this is.... Everything has a cause right? Well, how did the universe come to be? Scientists agree that somethings started it(The bigbang), so the big bang must have a cause, but then that has to have a cause, etc......

Could something have really always existed? Time had no beginning and you can go back for an infinite amount of time and it's still there? I don't get it.

Wether the Earth is natural, or created, it's still confusing to me.... >.>

Something had no cause... how is that possible.

I'm honastly not sure if the human brain is evolved enough to learn the truth. We can't comprehend it.

But doesn't it make you sick to your stomach to think that -nothing- turned into -something- .. it does mine. It also makes me sick to my stomach to think that there is no end to the universe, and if there is, we obviously will never find it.

Why does it make you feel sick? Scared sick? Frustrated Sick? Like so many of life's unexplained mysteries, I find it fascinating and exciting, but not enough to make me feel unwell. A bit like death really. For example, in a very real sense, all that you are, came from nothing, and will return to nothing. I refuse to feel worried about returning to where ever i came from before my earthly existence. It wasn't too bad then and shouldn't be in the future.

God and the universe are sort of metaphors for each other. We can measure the effects of each, create a set of rules to live by for each, and yet not really understand either, particularly their origins.
Just as we can't really understand or define god, i don't think we are yet quite capable of defining/ understanding either the nothing or the some thing that you are speaking of.Perhaps one day we will have a better understanding of both. I have no doubt our minds are capable of comprehending both but most people dont have the tools to work towards this.

Especially the part I put in bold... I wonder if God even knows what was before him?

Maybe, just maybe, there is a completely different religion in the spirit world (heaven/hell) and everyone worships another there.... how could anyone explain how nothing turns into something? You cant!
ShaunZero
I mainly have a problem with the idea of something not having a cause more than something coming from nothing... at least that part can sorta make sense to me. Quarks vanish.. and then come back, wich basically looks like something coming from nothing... but always existing? Blah! My brain hurts.....

Here's how I see the original question: Something physical such as a Big Bang needs a beginning before that. Something non-corporeal, not bound to these laws needs no such thing. God being such (many Faiths even say God created those physical laws in the first place), it need not necessarily require a beginning, like a physical thing needs a beginning.

That's how I view it at least.

Can't really blame anyone for freakin out in discussions like this. It's frustrating and everyone knows that no one knows and everyone has an opinion that they know is futile to explain God. It is endless and without boundries. Well beyond human language. I'll bet the idea the answers might contain wouldn't even be able to be processed by the human brain.

Or if one did they would explode into an energy beam of light and become one with the universe. Humans and answers like that just don't mix well. wacko.gif

I'm agnostic in belief, and I think that's a valid point, but maybe God didn't want people to know about Him. I mean (assuming His existance) if He knows everything, He probably knew that people would fight in His honour, and I guess He wouldn't want that - and it was Jesus (who may or may not have been his son) who gave them the information when He thought they could handle it...
demonic presence
well, personally i dont believe jesus was the son of god, actually i dont believe in the Judeo-Christian version of god so i really cant say, but than again i could be wrong, assuming Jehovah's (thats his name right? lol I dont know this stuff) existence he could have just not wanted people to know.

Well looking now, it could have been that Jesus actually hurtled religion back - because until then people believed what they came up with themselves (well - their people long ago) and now one guy comes along, and they're all supposed to accept that? Well obviously, they didn't, and spent two millennia fighting about it.

God always has been, and he always will be. Mortal minds such as us cannot understand the existence of him.... but tell me... what came before the big bang anyway?

An implosion the remnants of the big bang before that, perpetual motion? what's fuelling it? now if man could work that one out the troubles of the world would be over.

I used to be an agnostic, but i'm not so sure now grin2.gif

Interesting... what made you change your opinion/view/belief? Our half-thought out theory about Jesus being bad for the world? Wow...

God could be just an Extremely Powerfull being that has the power to creat life, hell god could be part of his own civilization like we are.....

every thing that has a BEGINING has a cause, God is ETERNAL. He has no start no 'cause' and no end he just is. Or as he explains " I AM" he just is.

So there was nothing before God then?

The term 'before God' does not exist in truth.
