when I was a kid I had what I learned later were OBE's, happened a couple of times, then nothing for 30 years. I'm writing this while it's still semi-fresh in my memory. I'm 37 years old, last night I fell asleep on the couch watching TV, which annoys the wife, but nonetheless I do that a couple of times a week at least. So last nght, at some point during the night, I woke up, and I'm laying there in a completely relaxed state, I think I even had one of those relaxed little smiles on my face. And I start to feel this sensation wash over me, like being placed in a hot tub with the jets on full stream, very calming. And all at once the room seemed to shift a little, not much, but enough for me to find a little logic in the back of my totally relaxed mind that said 'hey whats going on here'. And because I had the experience as a kid, I soon recognised what this sensation meant. I was out of my body. It was very strange because you get the feeling of having no leverage, no way of getting around, it's a like a plastic bathtub boat with the little wind up propeller, it doesnt really go anywhere, but in my mind, I still had a body, and I used it to create leverage, I willed myself to kick my legs out as if pushing away from the side of a swimming pool, and I was actually able to direct myself, albiet very limited. I floated toward a wall, beyond which was the backyard, I floated out there, but all at once, It felt like a rubber band was keeping me from going very far, I didnt think this would be as simple as kicking into cruising speed and heading anywhere I wanted. But at the same time, it felt like I could resist it if I wanted to, but when I did, it felt as though I become weak and within a split second, I was back in my body, and I did feel very weak, almost like I had not eaten for 2 days, and I laid there for I don't know how long trying to decide if I had just dreamed that or if it really happened.

I've lucid dreamed three times, and every damn time I get frightened and wake up. It really sucks, but hope me and you have these experiences more often.

Weird feeling isn't it????
If you can get into that relaxed state and stay awake you will have more.... Its body asleep mind awake, you feel your body just go numb and your mind is fully functional and aware then you can seperate.

Great for you!
I get the feeling that you didn't get too far because your fear inhibited you the full experience.
Next time, allow the experience to happen without fear.
No worries, you will return when you wish it.

The clues I get that I'm out of my body is when I'm aware of a lucid dream but 'feel' slightly drunk or my eyesight perception changes from normal, basically a change of sensation and perception. If I'm in familar sorroundings there is always something slightly different about it, extra things, weird to explain.

Hello everyone, this is my very first post in these boards that I just happened to find today.

Out of Body Experiences huh? I might have had two similar experiences...

The first one was a while back. I remember it was during the day time I was extremely tired from working so early in the morning(I work at Starbucks Coffee at 5am sometimes) and my body literally ached from being so tired. Not to mention how stressed I was from other things...

So anyway, I remember I went to my sister's room and fell asleep on her bed. She was at school and I think her matress is more relaxing than mine so I decided to crash for a while. It's a two story house by the way. I remember being so tired that as I fell asleep within a couple of minutes my body began to feel too relaxed. I suddenly awoke(Or thought I did) and was shocked at how rested I felt. I thought it had been maybe like 10 minutes tops that I had layed down. I began making my way down the stairs and instead of stepping on the actual stairs my body went right through the entire staircase. That's when I realized something was wrong. I panicked and floated right back to the room and saw my body laying there on the bed.. It was so odd. I could see myself exactly the way I fell asleep and I was trying desperately to call my mom, screaming her name but it was useless. I was screaming at myself to wake up and tried diving back into my body but still didn't succeed. Here's the odd part...In my spirit form(Atleast I think I was in spirit form since I seemed to be floating throught objects and doors.) I was panicking but felt no real pain. I was not really nervous I was just scared of the unknown. My body however, was twitching, it was moving like if it was trying to wake up. The more I screamed for it to wake up the more it twitched and moved. It's like when they're trying to bring back someone to life in those ER rooms in the movies. Something like that. They put these things to the chest and the body kind of twitches and moves like electricity is passing through...that's the best way I can describe it. Suddenly...I awoke and my heart was pounding pretty damn fast. I ran to touch the doorknob to see if I was back to my physical state and was calmed considerably after realizing everything was fine again...it was odd..

I can tell you this much, I don't really like that feeling as it happened to me again not long after that. The second one was a more horrible experience that I dreaded going back to sleep despite me being so tired. I'll tell more on the second one later..

Cold.
I think it would be cool to have an OBE.

Learn about it and do it, anybody can....

I have had similar experiences. That they could be taken seriously was something I didn't think could happen. I was living in Adelaide at the time but my memories were in Melbourne at the time. One night I felt my conciousness being dragged nto the the city of my birth ( I was born in Melbourne ) aloing the connecting highway between the two cities. Now I do not know whether ther was something calling me back to the city of my birth and the city of my youth but I felt irrevocably dragged back there. It may have have only been a dream but it seemed too real for that.
Maybe someone else has a tale of the same thing happening.......... mellow.gif

What, no-one has a similar experience? You lie............. crying.gif

Howdy Jaguat, have had dreams (yep these were just dreams even if quite vivid) that had dragged me to my place of birth (Czech) some 3-4 years ago. Was getting them almost every second/third night too. Funny thing is that after a couple of months of these happening I jumped on a plane with my family and made my dreams come true grin2.gif - a self prophecy(?) w00t.gif

Apart from that, I've had 100's of OBEs (jury is still out on whether they are anything paranormal), even more sleep paralysis episodes (and some quite disturbing ones) and some lucid dreams. I just love the 'alternate reality' feel. wink2.gif Oh, to the original poster, many similar experiences to what you mention - except never felt the rubber-band thingy. hmm.gif

Cheers

Hey there ai, must agree, never felt the rubber band thingy either.
When I was doing the OBE thing, I always felt that I could return when I wanted to, and didn't feel restricted. It was more that I felt DRAWN to where I went.
Cheers
