This happened to a friend of mine. Back when we were exchanging ghost stories and experiences, she told me this and it gave me chills up and down my spine. I have a bit of a stronger backbone now grin2.gif

Jolene and her two kids had just moved into this house they were going to be temporarily living in. Her kids were small at the time about 3 1/2 and 5.

It was a very old house she pressumed from the late 1800's early 1900's. The town she lived in was Northbay which is about 15-18 hrs North of Toronto.

Her daughter and her were down the cellar type basement doing laundry. It was a small area, very cold and damp with cement/brick walls. Down the hall there were a couple of old rooms she claimed she never ever went near because they gave her an erie "icky" feeling. It was as if there was a "thick fog" in the air or something of the like.

Her daughter had been playing around down there for a while by herself looking at things, when all of a sudden she seemed to be poking her head from around the washer a couple times as if she was looking at someone. She played what l appeared to be peek-a-boo but the look on her face seemed strange. Sort of hesitant. Jolene paid no attention to it but did notice that after a while her daughter stopped and looked as if she was waiting for something, while looking down the hallway towards the rooms. Her daughter then looked up at her and asked, "where de witch?"

Jolene explained at that point she felt confused and all of a sudden the room didnt feel so nice. She looked around and felt as if it was the first time she had actually taken the time out to see how creepy it really was. She then asked her daughter, "what witch baby?" "The one down there," she replied pointing. Her daughter then repeated saying "the witch where de witch?" Jo looked but did not see anything.

Jolene claims to have had the sickest feeling come over her like she had to get out of that cellar as fast as she could cuz whatever was down there with her did not give her a positive feeling. She looked towards the steep stairs up at the door only to see that it had been shut, something she distinctly remembers not doing. She was okay with going down there but still knew it was a creepy basement to be in. Closing the door wouldve been a ridiculous idea to her and she made it a point to have the door wide open as she went down. The other reason was because when she had first moved in, the ligthbulb in the basement burst and there was no light for her to see with but from upstairs, and a little window downstairs where she was. She had not noticed that the door to upstairs had been closed and that seemed to scare her the most. She wondered howcome she hadnt realized this when it had gotten darker, but she figured she was just busy seperating the clothes and could still see from the window down there.

At this point, she didnt want to scare her daughter so she quickly thought of how to get up the stairs without bolting. The only thing she could really do without looking terrified was to move slow and steady singing a song in her head. Without saying more than the word "come," she directed her daughter up the stairs infront of her and made it out of there, heart pounding out of her chest. (No the door was not locked lol).

Later that day Jolene had a visit from her mother, who came over for a visit. The little girl mentioned about the witch again and before she could say anything the little girl said "she doesnt like you Gramma." "and she says she doesnt like you too mommy."

After that day, they made it a point to find somewhere else to rent, Jolene says she couldnt possibly live somewhere that gave her the creeps that bad.

As for her daughter, Jo doesnt know if her daughter remembers it or not, because she doesnt want to give her any ideas or bring back any memories of it, but she is sure that her daughter is receptive to spirits now.

thumbsup.gif Good, I'm glad it's not her.

Did Jolene have any other experiences in the house before moving?

Does or did the daughter show any other psychic ability, besides seeing this spirit?

Well I really hate to kill the spirit of this thread but I wont find out about anything further until I go back to work with her. I know she did tell me once that while she was there she would feel something come up from behind her and blow on her neck, causing her hair to drift forward. She would turn around and feel like the energy was radiating some kind of magnetic force or staticky. I dunno blink.gif Sounds bloody frightning to me.

I must add that this girl is one of the most level headed and cheery people I have ever met, she is actually now my boss so I know shes got something good going for her. She has no reason to make stuff up. I will ask her if any other stuff that happened while in that house.

The thing that I was wondering was why her daughter would call the ghost a witch. She must've been in all black with a hat on, but did people really walk around like that back then? We were thinking possibly a nun, or an Amish person??

The nun or Amish theory sounds possible. But what about the feeling of dread?

Ya, who knows back then, I guess witches really did dress the typical way we make believe them to look. I wish I knew exactly how old the house was...

My guess would be that the woman looked horrendously ugly or scary, wrinkley, maybe had warts on her face, badly conditioned hair etc along with wearing old time clothes which could appear witchy in a steorotypical sense to a child.
