It means that you are shielding yourself from outside energies, to some degree, depending on how dark the black is.
Also, it could mean that you're keeping secrets or hiding something.
Is your aura only black?
An aura with only one colour is a sign of being unbalanced.
Black is sometimes associated with abuse, either having been abused, or having done the abusing.
I suggest you try again, try and spot any other colours, and look as carefully as you can to get your colour. You could have mistaken a brown or gray for black.
Brown indicates growth in the area of that colour. And gray represents intuition and imagination. As long ad it's not a darker gray which, similar to black, represents unbalance and secretiveness.
If it is gray, it could also be confused with silver, showing femininity. Gray is often seen in the aura of homosexuals who have not come out yet.
Sunlis
P.S. - Please note that I am not trying to offend you with the homosexual comment, I'm just delivering the facts.

Yeah, a lot of auras take concentration to see all the colours in them. I suggest trying again, yeah, and doing it for more than a few seconds.

Great npost sunlis
Perhaps you could go over all the colors for the board, and what your knowledge of what each colour represents.
Thanks

My advice: don't do it for a long time, cause if you practice too much your eyes could get short-sighted, just few minutes , and thats all. Concentration would have very big effects on your whole nervous system, just everything is interlinked

Colors don't mean anything SPECIFICALLY, but they have some meaning.
Black could be a very early sign of infection/disease, I've read.

No you don't, you're simply inexperienced and can only see white. You'll see colors when you get better.

I don't think that tone is very productive. It is entirely possible that EU does have a white aura, perhaps the lining is just very faint etc.
I don't try to see my own aura, I think it's fairly counter productive. However, I have been told by many that I have a dark blue aura with a thin gold lining... a rather rare combination I would imagine. I've been given differing opinions about the meaning of these colorations, so any input would be much appreciated.

Marty,
A blue and gold aura would mean that you have a lot of spiritual energy, and you are very willing to help others.
You are very in tune with yourself, and you are very empathetic and caring.
You shouls all take a look at
the link posted by EU, it has lots of info about auras, and the meanings of aura colours.

I highly doubt anyone here has a white aura. I read it's pure, enlightened, blah blah blah. So, I assume he is a beginner in auric sight, and what do beginners see? White.
Also, how is trying to see you're own aura counter-productive? You're practicing - practicing leads to a better ability.

when you try to see your aura by doing the fingertip exercise, your aura is something like a second skin? Because if it is i have seen it not only on me but in many things as well but i always thought that was my eyes tricking me. Anyway, if what i seen is my aura then my aura is black, but i think i did it wrong since my tv was on in a channel with the color gray and the entire room was black including the floor.. so when i relaxed my eyes they disappeard of faded in black.. then when i put my eyes right again i could clearly see like a second skin black.
PS: I went to my room to try and see it but now with a mirror and around my head and it was white or a really bright color.. does the aura change while you are sleeping ?

How does someone see there own aura? I am interested in this and would like to know a few questions. What is everyones method of seeing auras, does one way work better then others? If one person were to read a persons aura, then have another person read them right after, would the two people see the same colors? Or would they see different colors? I think it would be pretty interesting to see my own aura, so if someone could help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you much.

It doesn't matter how long you've been "into" it. I've been skateboarding for about five years, and do I kick ass at it? Not at all. Know why? I don't practice hard.

I think my aura is either yellow or green.
But my main point it. If the room is pitch black, can any of you still see, like being able to see "auras" of inatimate objects?

oh yes if you have been "into" it you will probably have experience right?

That angelfire page is wrong. It said seeing auras is a gift. All people were born with the ability to see auras, it's just that we never paid attention to it, and now it's gone, so we have to relearn it.

if it is a gift depends on who you ask, not everyone has to agree with angelfire but I think they had much/good info.

Aura's are usually not only one colour. If one sees a single colour, it is often because 1) they have not fully developed auric sight, or 2) because they arent concentrating for a long time. Auras have multiple layers of colours, so its important to document all of them to get a proper idea of what they mean.

It is NOT a gift, period. Every single person (unless born blind, I guess) is born with the ability to comprehend the aura's frequency. Aside from many pages I've read, my friend is also proof of that. He never learned to see the aura. He simply never lost the ability.

yes and if he lost it, did you not say everyone had it? or did he just forget how to do it?
some say it's a gift and others say it's natural (as you Kazuma)
it just depends on who you ask.if it is right or wrong is quite hard to say, or to prove but if you can I would gladly se it. (The proof)

Maybe blind people can see it too cause its not exactly a physical thing. And perhaps, if you say its a frequency, it can be felt on other levels. Just an idea.

I never said anything about him losing it. I said he did NOT lose it. He noticed it and practiced it, and to this day, still has it. It is not a gift because there is nothing special about it, but so many people have forgotten how to use it, that it seems like a gift.

I doubt blind people can see it.
You have two eyes. The brain superimposes the images from both eyes into one image. When you can see auras, the third eye supposedly superimposes the aura onto the image from the two physical eyes.
Or maybe a blind person could see JUST the auras... that'd be weird. I do doubt it though.
