(09-03) 04:00 PDT Black Rock Desert, Nev. -- Nearly 40,000 people gathered in the middle of the Nevada desert to celebrate as a 40-foot wooden man erupted in a Technicolor blaze Saturday night, marking the end of the weeklong artistic festival known as Burning Man.

Revelers transformed a dry lakebed near Gerlach, Nev., into an artist's paradise, with towering sculptures, flame-throwing monster jeeps and a neighborhood of theme camps providing everything from steak 'n' eggs to pole-dancing lessons -- to help one another live for a week in a punishing desert devoid of water, shade or cell phone access.

I've always wanted to go to this. I'm gonna make the journey all they way from the UK soon. I don't, however, think it's got much to do with this board?

People are saying that the new movie -- in theatres now -- is a great inspiration for the Burning Man festival.

The movie "Wicker Man" -- I saw it yesterday. It's awesome!

Yes I sat in full-lotus in the movie theatre as I usually do.

Basicaly the movie as about the Old Religion (wicca and psychedelic paranormal Nature worship of the Eternal Feminine as cyclical time).

Wow, that first video was just amazing! I didn't realize that Burning Man was a real festival. .I thought it was made up and a parody on American Dad.

Looks like fun; I would love to go.

Seriously, the burning man is a cheap rip off of an 82 year tradition that has been going on in Santa Fe, New Mexico. thumbdown.gif

Zozobra

I am from Santa Fe and Zozobra is the kick off to the annual Fiestas de Santa Fe. Matter of fact, the next burning is this Thursday Sept 7th.
