Archaeologists in Ukraine have unearthed the remains of an ancient pyramidal structure that pre-dates those in Egypt by at least 300 years. The stone foundations of the structure, which probably resembled Aztec and Mayan ziggurats in South America, were discovered near the eastern city of Lugansk. It is thought they were laid about five millennia ago during the early Bronze Age by animists who worshipped a sun god. The "pyramid" is in fact a complex of temples and sacrificial altars topping a sculpted hillside with steps on its sides.Viktor Klochko, head of the excavation, said the discovery was of international significance. "This is the first monument of its age and kind found in eastern Europe," he told the Guardian. "It changes our whole conception of the social structure and the level of development of the cattle breeders and farmers who were the direct ancestors of most European peoples."

There are about 100 pyramids in Egypt, and the remains of Mesopotamian pyramids are preserved in Iraq and Iran. Ziggurats are also found in Mexico, and the Nubians built pyramids as burial sites for monarchs in the Nile valley. But pyramid structures are rare in Europe. One of the few is a Roman-era pyramid near Nice, France, that may have been built by legionnaires involved in an Egyptian cult. Although graves have been found at the Lugansk site, archaeologists think it was used for sacrifice by burning, rather than as a burial ground. "People lived in the surrounding valleys and climbed up it to carry out their ceremonies," said Mr Klochko. "They had a pagan cult that bowed down to the sun, as did the ancestors of the Slavs."

Its amazing how many places pyramids can be found. Is there some ancient worldwide culture that left these behind, a forgotten chapter in the anals of human history? Is it possible that these structures are all independantly built from one another? Is the concept of sun worship a basic thread of humanity, does this create a continuity of thought and expression? More and more of these discoveries seem to indicate a group ideal of sun worship. Something shared by many different cultures, which would be amazing. It would indicate that the world wasn't always as splintered as it is now, that at some point there was some joining of minds.

If there's a forgotten chapter, it probably will be there.

I think the numerous pyramids found around the world aren't the result of any secret technology, commincations between peoples or extra terrestrial assistance but rather the result of the pyramid being the easiest, most prominent / noticable, and durable structure to build during these times. It doesn't take a genious to build a pryamid. I recall seeing a show on this some time ago on Discovery, History, TLC or one of those other shows along similar credible lines.

i think it's amazing that moe attention is not being paid to this discovery. this is going to totallly revolutionize long-standing ideas about our history. they pre-date egyptian pyramids.

well....your right It doesn't take a genious to build a pyramid..but it took a genious to build the great pyramid. Even in those days a civilazation that uses primitive tools.....learned mathamatics and astronomy and uses that to build the pyramids from some form of inspiration.
but the facts still remains,egyptologist have found no hard evidence on how the egyptions build the pyramids. So the jury is still out. Aliens!? ......maybe or maybe not, who knows.But all i know is that some egyptologist say that the great pyramid cannot be duplicated even with our modern day tecnology.

By no means did I mean to take away from the amazing technical innovations of the past, what was accomplished with what was availible was bewildering. I suppose I was just trying to explain the wide distribution of pyramids around the world through generalization. Would love to see on in person though! no way. we could do it in a month with 50,000 workers. you seem to know nothing in the areas of engineering. these egyptologists that say that, are not accredited researchers, or they would have a different answer. there are those of who happen to be smarter than others. this is natural. these smarter individuals figured it out. just because you cant figure it out doesnt mean it cant be figured out.

And also every pyramid culture tells of strangers coming with new information and assisting in building the pyramids.
What bothers me is there is no real photographic evidence of the ukraine pyramids. ive been searching around and found only one. you think they would be sending pics all over to prove thier point.

They still haven't figured out how exactly the gigantic stones where draged across the dessert to Egypt. With todays technology it would be a very expensive maneuver with large machinery. How did they do it?

But still if they did ti's amazing as now we'd struggle to make these there probably in my opinion the biggest mystery of how our ancestors made them all that time ago.

The majority of the granite rock were transferred on rafts down the river. The pyramids are a remarkable feat by an ancient civilization, however when your culture bases itself around something so important such as the afterlife you spend your life dedicating it to that purpose.

No Aliens came down to the egyptians and told them to build the pyramids. The pyramids were built using human intelligence.

Finding these pyramids does open doors for more questions and also changes history. The Egyptians, to my knowledge, has always been accredited for building the first ones. Even though cultures had the knowledge of how to build a pyramid, it is remarkable to me that so many felt the need to do so.

BTW, there is no need to bring aliens into these discussions...the town the workers lived in has been found in Egypt, near the pyramids... the quarry the sandstone blocks were taken from is there beside the pyramids... there are carvings showing the Egyptians moving huge statues on sledges... people did these things, not ET's

Personally i don't think aliens either. its more likely human but most probably not egyptian. It could be possible that another preexisting human culture built them. Compare Kufu's first attempt at a pyramid near the ethiopian border, to one he built right after at Ghiza.
